Tuesday, my neighbor, who between him and his sister, own the 850 acres that borders my 126, on 2 sides. We got to chatting about a neighbor kid he let’s hunt his property. He stated “I let him hunt on my farm tags, because I don’t hunt myself, and those deer eat out of my cattle feeders daily, so I’m feeding the deer on my property, and that grain cost me money that those deer are eating”.
I have owned the appropriate sized land to get farm tags for at least 20 years, and think I have got those tags maybe 4 times. I buy tags because i hunt on friends land as much as my own. I have never blinked an eye about buying tags, because I hunt land other than mine.
If I chose to hunt only my land, and not a single penny from any state agency goes towards the specific deer on my property, nor my property, then why do I need a tag from a state agency?
Anyone know how I can get my share of MDC monies for the damage, feed, etc. that the “state” owned deer cause? Or the insurance rate hike from hitting a few with my vehicle while on state roadways? If they belong to the state, shouldn’t the state be required to pay for any and all damages they cause?
