I'm surprised that this site is so dead I used to fish MT all the time until I sold my boat. I know it can be a fickle lake, being a flood control project but still the fishing used to be pretty good. If I went I would head up to the South Fork. you could fish a lot of good water from that access and it may not be as crowded. There were a lot of Bass tournaments on MT (that's why I sold my boat.) and they were concentrated at Black Jack.

O.K. for all the guys out here who don't have sweet jet boats and a secret honey hole. Stop, Just Stop. Just kidding great fish.

Those old Mitchell reels were pretty well built. I would clean it up and give it to someone you don't like. Bill

Sounds better than floated my hat.

AWHuber, Are you going to auction that off or put in the raffle? Bill

Hit the park with four friends and had a good time even though I had an aquatic event in the late afternoon. We caught some and lost a lot, the fish seemed to like their flys small and hit lite.

That's my rod, Tad is my cousin and signed it for me as a birthday present. I lost it in the park about thirty-five years ago while fighting a monster 'bow' in the Lodge hole. He was draggin me down stream and I swallowed some water and when I coughed I dropped the rod. I swam after the big boy but he was too fast for me.

I agree with Muddler4 about the lodge, Wife and I stayed there last summer for three nights during the week and found it adequate but very damp. It was clean and the people at the lodge always friendly. I was wondering if the lodge floods at all, it seems unlikely as it never looks like it ever changes.

NICE! Good for you. I guess all the hard work you have put in is paying off. Did you catch numbers it, sure sounded like it.

I have never had much luck with Roostertails but I know they work for others. Still you were able to fish, that's a plus. I checked the river flow yesterday and it was running around 3.8 at Steelville. That supposed to mean the wading can be pretty hazardous. Glad you didn't get into trouble.

Those are some beautiful browns. The one is a chunk What were they hitting?

Haris122, I meant just outside of the park, upstream. I have some pictures of the spring area, the new dam and the track hoe stirring up the bottom. I will try to download the pictures but have to figure out how this camera works first.

I fished the park and upstream of the park Monday and caught one nice trout in the park and lost to more. My hook set must suck as I fought another nice trout and watched as he came to a stop and just spit the hook out as I watched, didn't through it, he just ejected the hook. Both of those fish were on an egg fly. Hooked a small one on a BHPrince. Outside I stood on a rock looking down on a dozen nice fish and missed two strikes on a San Juan worm. After that, I got nada bites to speak of. It was crowded in the park, I guess a lot of people got out before, the rainy weather blew in. They were also working in the trout reserve with a track hoe. I'm not sure what was up but every time they dumped rock and stirred it up the water down stream got milky. The new darn is in and it's pretty massive.

I have a theory, mind you I have not fished below Montauk at all at least not in the above Akers Ferry. A lot below but not upstream of there. I have been told of enormous amounts of sand in the woods and on the stream banks. I've seen it elsewhere but not the Current. Is it possible that the fish retreated downstream to escape the sand being washed through the system? It makes sense to me that it would irritate their gills and might affect the senses of smell and feel. Like you in a sand storm.

I've been hearing four to six inches of rain in a four or five day period. I wouldn't be surprised if it went on a little longer from the hints they're giving on the news. Good luck to my friends that are probably down their right now. They were going to camp at TRSP. I hate rain while camping.

Over the years, I can think of a number of things the MDC has done that benefited me the major one was the acquisition of Whetstone Wildlife area. I have hunted that whole area and fished in its ponds. I just fished the Red Ribbon area on the Meramec River. There were a lot of things done every day in our names for our benefit. I am proud of the job our MDC has done and think trying to fix it when it is not broken is wrong.

May I asked what is a Mitch's craw? I've seen them mentioned but no pictures or description of it. and where can one acquire this magic bait? I'm not willing to kill for one but I might call someone names if it matters.

I don't consider myself thin skinned but rudeness on the rivers and lakes in this country seems to have gotten worse over the years. I too have seen some pretty obnoxious people in canoes, and don't want the jet boaters or all tournament fishermen to feel like I don,t understand that they have the right to use the water. We all have to try to get along better as the number and variety of ways people use the water increase.

Thank's Dano, I don't spend much time up there and I did go up to check it out after the flood but it was closed off. I need to check it out if for no other reason than it's peaceful up there.

I was just wondering were on the stream are they working? I was down there every week during C&R and it just looks odd. I don't recognize the fence. Or the dam across the stream. I guess I will have to go fishing to find out. Hate when that happens. Tight loops, Bill

I have not had a lot of experience dealing with jet boats or their owners. That's because I got totally fed up with the rude attitude many of them had and just didn't go to that part of the river anymore. I have floated most of the Current and a lot of the other canoeable rivers in the Ozarks. And the problems I have had was due to the joy riders and tournament anglers. If I am wading and a guy in a jet boat cuts you off from the bank your fishing because he saw you catch a fish. it gets irritating. I have had this happen more than once the Current below Two Rivers, both times by tournament anglers.I love the rivers but the jet boaters make it hard for others to enjoy them.

I have been thinking and reading all the old post trying to decide how to tackle BSC. I now have the answer and will share it with you now. Taser. -

Thanks, Matt, I am 64 so I don't do much crawling anymore. You're very right about being trying to be too stealthy. You would hardly wet a line there if that were the case. Found a couple of nice holes where I caught my fish but feel I spooked more than I caught. I will be in touch I still want to get together on BSC. -
another great bill (sarcsm) goes to committee in Mo House

Since this discourse is political, I feel that many of our representatives have concluded that they no longer need to respond to their constituents. Vote them out and make a statement that we the people are in charge.
