  3. YELLVILLE – If ever there was anyone you couldn’t say enough good things about, it’s Roger Vickers. Lawman. Family man. Good man. Friend. Those are just some of the words people shared after learning of the Marion County sheriff’s passing. Vickers, 67, lost his battle with cancer Thursday. “It’s a great impact. Everybody here is taking it real hard,” said Lt. Bill Hilligoss of theMarion County Sheriff’s Office. “He was a great man and a great leader in the community. He will be greatly missed.” For those of you that fished the White River and the lower Bull Shoals, you may have known Roger Vickers, the Sheriff of Marion County, Arkansas. Roger passed away last night after a battle with cancer. He was a true gentleman and worked hard to protect the community. He will be greatly missed. His family has our condolences and prayers.....
  4. When some one calls a white person a cracker, in what context do you honestly think it is used? As a friendly way to greet some one? Or is it used as an offensive term to belittle a white person, because the person using the term is racist themselves, and is certainly not using it in a friendly manner? The speaker is not using the word with the intent to be polite. So, to say it's not racist is unfair, and that would be like me saying the "N" word isn't racist.
  5. My son and I went up crooked creek Saturday from the White River. It was still up a little; however, the water was still very cloudy. I called it "milkshake" on Saturday. We tossed a few spinner baits with no luck.We went back out to the White and switched back to trout fishing....Tonight we got more rain and more is forecasted.... Otis

  7. Ham: Apparently you weren't close enough to hear the operator say, "Here, hold my beer - Watch this." LOL
  8. Totally Awesome! I can only imagine the stories he will tell about catching a world record fish with his Grandpa!
  9. The Meth head....he gets arrested as he walks out and gets put on probation......
  10. My son and I worked the White River today from Rim Shoals down to Fletcher Mountain. Dam releases today averaged 10,500 CFS. Plenty of water today....We tried everything under the sun. Zig Jigs, Lindy grubs, sculpzillas, rapalas, and roostertails with mixed success. After about 3:00 pm today the bite turned on while we were using 1/4oz Rainbow and Brown Trout Roostertails. Shot some video of our catches but can't figure out how to upload it from my old video camera...I will post it when I figure it out. We pulled out numerous 10 inch trout but did land some nice larger Rainbows. The browns we caught were 12-16 inches in size.We anchored once in Shoestring Shoals to haul in a few Rainbows but drifted everywhere else. Overall a great father/ son day on the River.
  11. I agree with rps....I think this horse has been rode hard, put up wet and has died.....
  12. How deep is the water there?
  13. Been having a debate with my son. I would have released it. My son would have released it into grease. As I told him, If I have a huge 12 point deer on the farm, I will leave him and take the eight...Or If I have a non-typical I will take him. I think the same holds true with fish. I will get some good photos and if I want a mount, I will order a replica from my photos.
  14. In Missouri the criminal charge is Unlawful Use of a Weapon. It is a Class D Felony punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment up to 4 years.
  15. No...that's the bridge just below Dawt Mill....
  16. Of course, self-defense with firearms NEVER happens... Former CNN Anchor After Self-Defense Shooting: “If you don’t want to carry please don’t. Then, shut the f--- up about it.” Last week we shared the harrowing story of former CNN Headline News anchor Lynne Russell and husband Chuck de Caro, who exercised their right to armed self-defense to stop a gun-wielding robber who forced his way into their Albuquerque, N.M. motel room. Espousing a straightforward logic that even gun control supporters should be able to grasp, Russell stated, “If you don’t want to carry please don’t. Then, shut the f--k up about it. Make your own decisions.” Both Russell and de Caro are Right-to-Carry permit holders, and in an interview with Fox News following the shooting Russell had some choice words for anyone that would deprive them of the right to bear arms. Espousing a straightforward logic that even gun control supporters should be able to grasp, Russell stated, “If you don’t want to carry please don’t. Then, shut the f--k up about it. Make your own decisions.” Russell elaborated on her pro-gun position stating, “The discussion over the debate to own a gun is just ridiculous. As Americans we have the right to bear arms and as humans the right to protect ourselves. I’m sure that the man who shot my husband did not have a gun permit. Criminals will always have guns. The rest of us legally obtain our gun permits.”
  17. This is definitely not a high speed vest. Riverboat, kayak, canoe, low speed pontoon, etc. It will definitely keep you afloat though.
  18. Intentional murder rates, not just firearm death rates are important... United States - Firearm rate 3.2 per 100,00, Intentional Homicide rate 4.7 per 100,000 Canada - Firearm rate 0.6 per 100,00, Intentional Homicide rate 1.6 per 100,000 According to the CDC in 2013.... 11, 208 Firearm Homicides... 10, 076 DWI deaths... If that shocks you, consider this.... Real Time Estimate Top 7 Causes of Death Since 1 Jan, 2013 Cause Annually To Date Tobacco: 529,000 1,340,870 Medical Errors: 195,000 494,272 Alcohol Abuse: 107,400 272,230 Vehicle Accidents: 42,000 106,459 Suicide: 29,350 74,394 Drug Abuse: 25,500 64,636 Firearm Homicide: 10,828 27,446 National Vital Statistics System So lets ban guns....Really? What about Tobacco, Doctors, Alcohol, Cars, Suicidal People and Drugs? EVERYONE in my neck of the woods, that I know, owns firearms, most have a concealed carry permit....We have no gun laws in our county, yet per capita, our murder rates are way lower than St. Louis, Chicago, Kansas City,etc....Go figure
  19. Gun control would not have stopped Sandy Hook. A mentally ill person murdered his mother, stole her guns and killed innocent people.
  20. I carry concealed on a regular basis. I do not consider myself a "doofus" (sic). I am a retired deputy sheriff who became an attorney after receiving career ending injuries while making an arrest. I am CPR certified and have performed CPR more times than I like to think about. I have never had an accidental/negligent discharge. I have been on a two way range as a deputy. It is not fun. I firmly believe in the U.S. Constitution. I have had numerous death threats in my careers. I carry a fire extinguisher in my boat in case of fire. I wear a PFD in case of an unanticipated water entry. I carry concealed in case of a life threatening situation. All of these are tools I choose to carry based upon MY experience, MY education and MY training. All I ask is for folks to respect my rights and choices as I respect your First Amendment rights of speech. You may not believe in concealed carry or carrying a weapon. That is your choice based upon YOUR experience, YOUR education and YOUR training. But please, don't generally call everyone you disagree with names because they think differently than you....
  21. With the current running, you would steer to the eddy and bank. You should never bail out under those conditions.....
  22. A man carrying a concealed gun thanks to a new Kansas law says he helped thwart a group of alleged robbers at a sporting goods store on Friday afternoon, according to reports. Joey Tapley, 24, forced one of three teens who allegedly stole firearms and cash at gunpoint from a Topeka Academy Sports + Outdoors to let go of some of the cargo with his non-permitted, concealed weapon, he told WIBW-TV. The new law allowing Kansans to pack heat without a permit or training took effect July 1. Officers from the Topeka Police Department captured the three males on Friday night and recovered the rest of the goods they had stolen, Lt. Bryan Wheeles told The Topeka Capital-Journal. Authorities incarcerated the teens, whose names aren’t being disclosed because they’re minors, in an area juvenile detention facility on aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary charges, according to the local paper. The department released surveillance camera images on Friday that appear to show the teens holding handguns with bandanas over their faces during the 2:44 p.m. stickup. Police say they fled the scene in a stolen white 1996 Dodge Intrepid, and officers told the Capital-Journal they located the teens with a female accomplice at around 9:30 p.m. But Tapley impeded the robbery suspects on their way earlier Friday, he told the local TV station. He and a cousin were buying ammo at the 1133 SW Wanamaker Rd. outlet when he says he saw the masked apparent thieves piling up weapons from the store’s racks and running away. The good guy with a gun chased after them into the store’s parking lot, yelling “Drop the guns!” and warning that his weapon was loaded, he says. One of the suspects made eye contact and continued fleeing for a second before dropping the two guns he had in his arms and booking it, Tapley told WIBW-TV. An officer with the police department said no one was available early Monday to comment on his account of the incident.
  23. A true gentleman! He was very well liked and he was always a great guy to talk to. I first met him almost twenty years ago, I flew in to Gaston's with a friend for lunch. My friend knew Jim well and well visited about everything from airplanes to fishing..... Otis
  24. Phil: Having watched (and immensely enjoyed!) several of your videos, I notice that you use both spinning and fly gear. Do you enjoy one over the other? I have several friends that fish nothing but fly rods and have told me that once you go to a fly rod there is no other way to fish. Your thoughts? Otis
