  1. I fished a little last sunday in the blazing heat and managed a couple of smallies in Indian creek but that was it. Tough stuff. lol. Ned fish though so it was fun, ive been trying to get comfortable with that rig. Didnt get anything on the dropshot which really surprised me. I also think finding fish was my issue. I suck at summer fishing. Haha. I cant wait for winter to roll around.
  2. Good to hear youll be back after it Dan! As for the fishing I would think this cooler weather and rain would make for a good bite. Maybe some topwater with cloud cover or moving baits. But thats just a guess. Its really hard to answer a question like that, the answer stump gave you was about as good as it gets for beaver in my opinion. This lake is tough this time of year. It is absolutely a day by day lake. If you keep up with the weekly posts on here there will be enough info to try and piece something together.
  3. There were summers growing up where I would have a weightless black worm on at all times. When I was sitting on the dock and saw a wolf pack of bass cruising the bank I would rocket that worm on the bank in front of those bass and burn it back off the bank in front of them. Caught a lot of big bass that way. Cloudy days and sunny days. Its hit or miss, obviously the fish have to be there but it was fun. Can't see letting a weightless one fall around docks be a bad idea.
  4. I just cant even imagine a bag like that, Beaver isnt that kind to me. Let alone in the summer. Congrats to him!
  5. killin em again, nice job Mike!
  6. Heat and boat traffic do a good job keeping me off the water on the weekends but if I would have to guess hitting mainlake points early would be a good bet. It's been a few weeks but that worked well for me when I was up there last. Also fishing deep seems to just be about the only way to get a decent bite. There are some real nice spots in the clifty arm, points with a lot of big rock. Also I had a decent bite on bluffs as well. Lots of trees on the bluffs so plenty of cover but harder to fish. I got bit with my bait down about 20 feet and was sitting in much deeper water. I can't imagine it has changed that much. Drop shot and the Ned rig. I havnt done well at all on the shakey head this season but I'll catch em on the Ned. Little changes like that seem to go a long way. I'm not beaver lake stick by any means but this has been my experience this year. If you can ever get out on a cool cloudy or even rainy day, top water and shallow. On the fourth when the storms were coming through the top water bite was insane, next day non-existent.
  7. I think this is awesome, I will be glad to help out when I get back in town!
  8. Didn't know him well but knew him through some family over the years. Really shocked to hear about it. This kid practically lived in the water. Really sad news, thought about him when I was out fishing last night. Just a reminder that the lake as much as we all love it can still be a dangerous place, just wish the reminder wasn't so tragic. Stay safe out there everyone.
  9. I've had good success with the h20 cranks this year. I don't crank much but this spring all the cranks I threw that weren't a wart or rock crawler were the h20 cranks and they put fish in the boat. I also don't feel near as bad losing one every now and again for the price. Their square bills are solid.
  10. Stump I'm thinking the same thing! lol. Nice job mike!
  11. Looks like I should be taking notes from you! Haha, good work man!
  12. There were very few pleasure boats while I was down there yesterday but I was primarily going down there thinking most of the guys fishing the Everett tourney wouldn't run up there. Also knew getting in at prairie creek would be rough. It does have a bunch of water to cover down there but I just wanted to learn the deep water stuff a little more. There are some really good bluffs and deep rock structures to fish down there. And the water is incredibly clear, I saw bottom a little over 15 feet. Water seemed cooler too so that was a big reason for me going.
  13. Well, had a pretty good day out there today. Caught a good number of smallies up around Indian creek. Decent top water bite for a bit this morning. Did more damage with an under spin with a Kietech on it while they were schooled up than top water though. Caught em the rest of the morning deep on a drop shot and the ned rig. Fished bluffs and deep rock banks and got almost all our bites on those banks. But they are deep. Keep your boat in 40-50 foot or more and cast into ~20 foot and fish out from there. Not quite my style but I'm learning. Didn't boat any solid keepers but a ton of 14 inch smallies. Made for a fun day. Took a swim to cool off and off the water by 1130-12 for the Everett weigh in. To wrap a long post up, just wanna commend those fellas running the Everett team trail. Had some really big bags today and those guys took awesome care of those fish. It was good to see those 3-5 pounders trying to jump out the tank. Haha.
  14. Detail is personal preference of the poster in my opinion, glad just to hear about the day and even just knowing water temp helps! Appreciate the report!
  15. Mike I may just see ya at JJ's if things are slow enough. Haha. Good luck out there tomorrow!
  16. Like the title says I'm gonna get up and get out on the water before the sun comes up. Figure traffic will get bad with the Everett and pleasure crowd but I have time to kill before working the tournament weigh in. Ill be up in the clear end looking for some smallies. Ill be in an old red 21 foot Ranger with a yamaha on it. If yall ever see it feel free to stop and say hey. Ill hopefully have a good little report tomorrow. If your going out be safe and good luck!
  17. Dan I go to Wolfe's waypoint marine on highway 62 heading towards Avoca. I know Jeff personally and have always had a pleasant experience with him even with some not so pleasant issues on the old boat. He always takes good care of me. I don't know what his labor rates are compared to ROS or others but I have always been satisfied with the work. Hope this helps.
  18. I hope they do, I personally think its awesome seeing her bring those fish to the scales! Either way the bite goes it will be a good day on the water! I plan on fishing em again next year, this year just got crazy for me. Ill be there around 2:30 to get ready for the ones coming in early and I imagine quite a few will.
  19. Yes sir, I'll be there! Good luck to you out there Saturday!
  20. Should have seen this coming a mile away, a little report with a suggestion to make sure people take care of fish in the summer heat turns into this. That's fine, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. My final say in this is, just pay attention to your fish and do your best to keep em healthy. Whether you fish tournaments or not I don't care. People will or they won't. But making sure people know how to take care of their fish is something I think needs some attention every now and again and that's what this was about. A little education for those that may read this and don't know any better, lord knows most won't post so you never really know who's paying attention. Maybe a young angler will read this and pay more attention. That's all I want.
  21. Congrats on the finish mike! That's more weight than I can even think of catching on beaver. Haha. And stump, there were a lot of dying fish at the Friday night jackpot, only real reason I said anything about was because of the carelessness of some I saw regarding their fish and thought the least that could be done is to say something about it. So thank you guys for your input! If it even makes one person think about keeping their fish healthy in this heat then it was worth it in my eyes.
  22. This is kinda why I've decided to take a break for the summer. It's just too hot and I don't really care to keep fish in the boat just to have em die on me and throw em back. It just kinda struck me wrong. I mean I know the issue has existed and all but last night was the first time I experienced it like that. Didn't start this as a debate or bashing of anyone who keeps tourney fishing or not, just pointing out that it is very hard on these fish this time of year and extra care needs to be taken.
  23. Fished the Friday night jackpot last night out of prairie creek. Ended up with around 6 and half pounds on three fish. The fishing for us was slow. Caught a bunch of short fish but only a few keepers. My partner stuck two nice large mouth. Both about 2 and 3/4 pounds. All fish came on a Ned rig after dark. I hadn't even thought about throwing the rig after dark until my partner boated the third keeper. Ended up being a slow night, didn't stick around to see what won it. I will say this. This will probably be my last outing on beaver until closer to fall or a nice cool rainy day comes through. Water temp was 91 everywhere we went last night. Another thing to keep in mind, with these high water temps these fish don't do well in the live wells. Y'all probably know all this but what bothered me was how many fish were looking pretty bad last night at the ramp. We did everything we could to make sure ours swam away. Anyways, short report but maybe it'll help someone out. Good luck out there guys!
  24. Weights seem to have dropped off. Of course im just going off of the Everett results. A buddy and I are fishing the friday night this week, will you be out there Mike?
  25. Yeah this year, while I havnt been out near as much, has been rather quiet for me when it comes to the whites. Only have put 1 in the boat and I was fishing for spots when that happened. I've actually caught more striper than whites so far. Odd for me. lol
