  1. I am still thinking of putting a boat in Saturday to spite the danger of floating debris. I HAVE to get a walleye in January I think I should get started ASAP. I think I should fish on the north end to get a way from some of the in flux of stained water, I don't know. Am I going to waste my time Saturday ? Help me walleye friends !
  2. Thank you, I might try to get my January walleye Saturday. I wonder what that will be like ?
  3. Yep, What they said, I use a trolling flap on a 75 hp merc, and then I use the course lock feature on my trolling motor (just to steer the boat) I don't have to drive the boat much, just fish. It is awesome !
  4. That is what I was hoping you would say, these days you never know. I am not good at fishing either, but this year has been great walleye fishing for me. I have learned so much from everyone on this forum. I am still looking for the big walleye, but I have caught several 21" and under. I am a Sunday school teacher at a church near Avilla Mo. It has been a pinnacle time in my life.
  5. Interesting handle you have there?? I like the 1/2 oz size you should look at the shiver minnow as well, I own some but have not tried them yet.
  6. Bow fishing with a drone ? Hog hunting with a drone ? I think that would work well. I think if you put a gun on a drone big brother might have a problem. I think I just got on a watch list somewhere. Uncut angling just did an episode catching a fish on the ice with a drone, funny but it did not look that fun to me.
  7. I tie in a 10' leader to braid with a double uni knot, I use 8lb green P line mono on the creek, and 12lb fluoro on the lake. For me it is the best of both. The braid seems to last forever, and I can bite the leader and tie on all day. If I do brake off to the braid it takes me 2 minutes to tie a uni knot and bang I have a brand new 10' leader again. I can also buy the more expensive leader material and not feel to bad about it as I am only using 10' at a time. I get no stretch and it's easy to tie.
  8. My plan is to fish all winter, at the very least have some experiences for every month of the year. I am really after at least one walleye for every month, either way it will be an adventure ! I will be focused on deep structure. If you are used to fishing the banks in the spring, fishing deep can be tough to get your head around, but once you get an understanding of it is really entertaining and productive. Keep after it, I have much to learn this winter too.
  9. Great lure but they are a hang up waiting to happen
  10. Cut the front hook off of the rap it will help. Great post very close to my experience this time of year. At least you have a December walleye !
  11. I have always seen those bait fish there and a ton of gar it is awesome bow fishing !
  12. I have done well with a small but heavy lipless crank bait and the jigging rap as well. I agree with cutting the hooks off at least the front one one the jigging rap, if it ever hangs on anything you will not get it back. I lost 2 in 10 min last weekend @ $ 7 each that hurts. I have some Shiver Minnows coming soon, they do not have a front hook, and they seem to be a larger profile for the weight. I like to try to be around 1/2 oz on any of that kind of stuff. It is my favorite way to fish, but you have to be on some fish or you will just jig your arm off, it is fairly hard on the an old shoulder. Caught the last couple walleye this way over 45 FOW suspended @ 30 feet. Really fun !
  13. Yep, what they said
  14. Suspended over 45 FOW @ 30' just off a steep chunk rock brake, they were moving around a lot, many would appear to follow the bait and then move off. I think the profile of my lipless crank bait was a little large. I have some ideas for next time.
  15. They wouldn't even look at a bottom bouncer, vertical jig was the only thing working on steep brakes. We had a lot of cold rain so I think the lake cooled quickly. I bet it will pick back up when everything get acclimated. It was tough, I am going for a walleye for every month...we will see what happens.
  16. The 3rd video is from a different time (see time stamp) I could not figure out how to remove it from this new entry.
  17. Wow ! I was wandering around the forum and found it. I bet if you went on the "Shocking tour" again there would be giants. You should go again, and write a new one, about how you, and your new friend (Dan Hufferd) had a great time shocking fish. What do you think ?
  18. I love the spoon bite, but I fish bouncers, and crank baits to too. Thank you guys for sharing if you get up around Stockton let me know.
  19. Thank you very much, sounds like there will be some good #'s in a couple years, I fish Stockton a lot and did not want to make the drive if the walleye were few and far between. You can catch them between 14 and 20 inches with the possible but seemingly rare fatty (at least for me) all day if you know were to look. I finally learned how to be a walleye fishing fool, I love it. My goal is to catch them from Stockton every month of the year, if I can make it to Mothers Day I will have done it !
  20. Is there any ?
  21. Great article ! Do you have to be an important Phil Lilley kind of guy to take part in one of these trips ? Thank you for sharing. I love this it is hard to read without being over come... Isa 6:1 - 6:8 For some reason I think I should tell you that I read this to my Sunday school class of squirming kids (5yrs - 11yrs old) who could not seem to sit still during prayer time. I told them when we close our eyes to pray it is like standing before God in his throne room with our praises' and requests'. Prayer time is now very reverent and touching. It is awesome to here a child pray ! Dan Hufferd
  22. I think my son and I will chicken out on the fishing trip today.

How has your luck been ?

I have been working a lot. I have nothing new to tell.

    1. rps

      rps

My response is virtually identical. I have heard rumors of deep flat fish.

I as well. The story goes something like this..." I caught these 20 something incher over 45'  of water on a spoon, suspended crank, lipless crank, etc."

I have a couple rocky points I really want to work over, but maybe tomorrow.

  23. The # 9 flicker minnow will go 24 ' but I have not caught much on it, I have done well with the 7
  24. I will be buying these too. It seems like someone posted some success with these last spring. Also I think the tots were less $ than many other cranks. Berkley has some new lipless crank bait for this year. I have to admit I have not explored this technique much. It seems like a guy should be able to slow troll, jig, or cast / retrieve. I bought some I guess I will go back for some tots. Lord will'n my son and I will be on Stockton looking for the big walleye, probably in the cold rain. (look for the video).
