  2. Very true. I make a lot of trips to Wister in OK for just that reason. Food and cover.
  3. Yea, my buddy from down there is always making fun of the beaver Crappie.
  4. Thanks for the report, Dan.
  5. Hickory Creek was open today but it looked like they may have been hauling out the courtesy dock. Marina is open.
  6. If you ever just can’t bring yourself to spend that gift card, just slide it my way. I think I can suck it up and spend it....
  7. Love catching Smallies!
  8. I too have only been back on Beaver a short time but I am finding good winter fishing south of the bridge in the White River. I try to follow the 1/3rd tank rule. If I expect to burn 5 gallons getting to my furthest fishing spot, I wil be sure to have 15 gallons on board when I leave. 5 out, 5 back, 5 in reserve. Even if that means fueling the day before (as Bill said, “plan ahead”). Can’t be too safe when it’s this cold outside.
  9. Thanks for the report..
  10. I would think that is possible. Not the deep mass of water on the south end to hold heat.
  11. Amen to that... don’t know if it’s a Shad problem or my speed, range, and accuracy with a net is just not what it was when I was in my 30’s.
  12. Did you get out this AM? Wishing I had gone. If nothing more than to enjoy the warm sun before the weather goes cold.
  13. I agree. Sounds like you had a great day on the water. I fished the white river arm yesterday. Similar conditions. Totally overcast...Dead flat calm (mostly)...Fish were working...I could stand another week of that. But it’s not to be...winters coming.
  14. Unidentified Fishing Object! Nice work! Got to see your new rig in person Tuesday. That was me in the Kenner CC that waved as I passed. Great boat.
  15. Seriously? Thought I saw your boat pass my house.....didn’t know they were this far up the river yet.
  16. Last year I bought a 115 Yama 4s to replace my old smokin, chokin, loadin, hard startin Merc. Best investment I ever made. I just look at the key and the new Yam starts right up. Trolls at an idle for hours without missing a beat. All I can say is those POS motors come in all sizes and shapes.
  17. Good looking crew there! The catch ain’t bad either...
  18. Never saw that before!
  19. X2. I have been working my tail off running 6 lines by myself. I think this will help me keep them properly sorted.
  20. Thanks for the comments guys. Was fishing 3/0. I know how to set a circle hook. I have fished them with other species for years. Lost more on Stripers in the past week than lost on Redfish in 10 years. I’m befuddled....(more than usual).
  21. Pulled the hook on three fish today and one yesterday and I’m not happy about it. Felt the fish on all three strikes and popped the hook out after just a seeond or two. I’m new to Striper fishing but not new to circle hooks. Should I go back to J’s?
  22. My first Striper of the season today. It was pretty choppy out there. Gonna hit it again tomorrow...
  23. Wifey and I are returning to the hickory creek ramp. A man is launching a party barge. No dock lines...doesn’t tie off when he steps out at the dock...it floats off from the dock....he had to catch a shuttle from another boater to retrieve his boat. Did he think he could just tell it to stay put and it would just stay there??? What...how....
  24. I fish an egg slip sinker on the main line above a bead and snap swivel then a length of 15# 100% floro from the snap to a circle hook. Hook sized to bait. I keep extra floro leaders tied up and ready in case I break off. I would like to hear some alternates if someone does it different.
  25. Yep, the wife and I launched from there Saturday for our Fall Color Cruise day. All in good order except no cleats on the dock. I guess they don’t want you to tie up.
