  1. There are islands of slushy ice floating around this morning on the lake here. The water hasn't run in so long and the temp has been cold enough to freeze the surface a bit. Ump-teen years ago the lake froze over one night. There was a thin sheet from bank to bank. I was on the dock messing around when I heard the most ominous sound- popping, cracking, snapping... the water was coming on and the ice was breaking up. Wish I had recorded it. This was back in the 80's I believe.
  2. Where abouts in Kansas are you from? I grew up in Parsons- same thing- vacationed here as a child and loved it so much we moved here.
  3. Sounds pretty good really. Easy to enforce- clear and easy to understand.

  5. From what I've heard, the fishing was good this weekend despite the cold and snow. Some brave souls spent the weekend, one they will surely remember and reminise, battering the cold-cold waters of Taney. These guys were just heading out this morning. These guys staying next door roughed it... of sorts.
  6. Are you getting any? You have to check what threads you want notified on to the right of the thread.
  7. Alittle advise if you're going to bid on one... bid higher than $65. I bid $65 twice and got outbid although the item sold for $65. In dutch bidding on ebay, it takes the highest bidders but the bid isn't what you pay necessarily. He sells a group of camera every 7-8 days so if you miss it, you have to wait for the next batch. We missed it twice and had to wait 3 weeks total. But we were buying backups.
  8. Dano - try this. Go to My Controls and click view topics. There you'll find you can turn on notifications and other options on threads you pick. Try this and see if it works.
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com/Underwater-Video-Camer...2QQcmdZViewItem I bought several on ebay for $65 each.
  10. All guides should be held to a higher standard. And they should care what people think of them. Word of mouth can rocket a business to success and it could bring it to it's knees. And with internet boards now, word of mouth carries much further, faster. I would rather not anyone mention names here... Why would a guide set his clients one either side of the river (lake) and walk between them- back and forth- sounds like he's making more work for himself unless he has some purpose in it.
  11. Shuffling: Dislodging gravel, rock and/or any vegitation on the bottom of the lake to attract fish to an area where the same individual or individuals are actively fishing, or where another party, who is not actually shuffling is actively fishing. To be shuffling, one or more anglers must be aggressively kicking the bottom of the lake, in current or not, with the sole purpose as to attract trout so that a person can catch them as they feed on the bugs kicked up from the bottom. To the question of shuffling on Lake Taneycomo - Are you in favor or making "shuffling" on Lake Taneycomo illegal or keeping it legal? Post your answer as - ILLEGAL or NO CHANGE Any comments to the issue, post on on this thread - http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1076
  12. We are trying to take a poll of sorts to the question of shuffling on Lake Taneycomo. It's a hot subject for many anglers, pro and con. In some states (New Mexico, Arkansas) the practice of attracting fish by dislodging rocks, gravel and other bottom materials is already illegal. So sound off... but keep it respectful.
  13. Brown rule - you might as well make brown catch-n-release year round because I'd say 90% of the legal brown caught and kept are during the spawn below the dam. Out of our guests during the year, I bet I don't have more than 6 legal browns caught in the main lake and another 6-10 caught below the dam. Compared that with the legal browns caught during the spawn... not even close. So why not make browns catch and release only? Would that upset the management model of the lake? As for the shuffling petition, I'll start it.
  14. Interestly, Jim Turner and I talked to a lady in Branson West - her husband and her bought some land near Reed's Spring. They knew about one large bell cave on the property but found the opening to a cave they have not yet explored. The opening is just a hole in the ground less than 24 inches wide- not enough for anyone it get into- but when he dropped a stone in the hole it took over 4 seconds to hit the bottom and it was water. It could be another marvel cave.
  15. Is anyone else having trouble? I need to know so I can turn in a trouble ticket.
  16. Surreal... I wish they had some follow up on how this person recovered from it.
  17. I've changed the default skin to Papyrus. This isn't a dictatorship... you can set your skin by selecting the skin at the bottom left of each page. You can set it back to the first, blue skin or any of the others. Each skin still has the original header- I'm working on changing each to have OA's name on them.
  18. This is one of those trips fisherpeople will talk about for years to come... the ones who came in spite of the forecast. We still have a couple of rooms open if anyone wants to join us! We've had about 7 inches so far- 13 degrees and dropping. Seriously, fishing should be excellent today. This are pics from our webcam - here's the link to the regular page - http://lilleyslanding.com/webcam.php
  19. Welcome- just let us know if you have any questions- we'd love to help. Where in Hot Springs do you find fly tying classes? It would be good to post them on the Fly Tying & Entymology Forum. Let your instructors know.
  20. Sculpin, olive, brown, black, pink, white and I like purple. Real micro jigs are put together with some kind of shrink wrap process but I'm sure the fish won't mind if they're tied with thread.
  21. I've heard of a patch... KicaTROT. Great report by the way- thanks!
  22. We're having a pretty typical winter so far here in musicland (Branson). Some say it's wacky but wacky has become the norm for us. Very cold beginning, mild middle and wild ending to the winter season. But we haven't had much of a winter in 6-8 years now. But the lack of rain is another thing. I told someone today we haven't had but 3-4 inches since July. I'd say that's a first-rate drought. And right now not end in sight. Hopefully spring will bring rains. If not, we're in for a very tough summer. We've had a mixed-bag of weather just this week. Cold - warm - very warm and humid and today very windy cooler down to cold this evening. This weekend's forecast keeps changing for the worse... they're not sure if it's going to snow, sleet, rain or nothing- probably nothing. But it's supposed to be cold- seasonably cold. The trout won't mind. They bit real good today as the main front pushed thru. We got a trace of rain- that's when the fish bit best- then wind this evening. The trout went dorment after it starting getting cold. For the weekend though, the front has pushed thru and the fish should bounce right back. It may be windy, so bundle up. Wind is a good thing- fish bite best under a choppy surface. Jig and float ought to be best using a marabou/1/50th to 1/125th oz sculpin, sculpin-ginger, black or brown jig 4-5 feet deep. Try a ginger color just for kicks. Trolling crank baits is easy when the wind is blowing and your hands are cold. You can wear gloves and a rod when trolling. Night crawlers again are the best live bait to use. Use half-worm, hook it once in the middle using a #8 hook and shoot alittle air in the closed end, making it float off the bottom. A split shot 24 inches from the hook and you're done. Add a power bait egg to the head of the hook - will also make it float. Fly fishing below the dam has been good. Some nice rainbows holding in the faster water below rebar. #18 gray scuds, thin-skin scuds in tan and gray, ostrich and roo-scuds and sow bugs working well. Olive woolies stripped both day and at night #14's.
  23. Oprah Winfrey stuff??? I guess I'm not in the know like Forsythian.
  24. I should have tried it the other day- thought of it later. But I do- esp using my fly rod.
  25. That would be a kodak moment- the expressions on faces when the first cords were struck. It's not the agent you have to be concerned with... it's the judge. From both perspectives, the judge makes or breaks laws. If he doesn't think the law has merit, he won't be tough on people. Case in point, a judge that think it's hard to tell the diff between a spotted bass and largemouth- he isn't going to be hard on the person standing in front of him if he can't tell the diff himself. I know you're going to say he is to uphold the law (MDC codes) but we're talking reality, not "the way it should be". It happens- it happens in Taney County!
