Went out for an hour this afternoon, mostly to see how the water was looking this year, caught one decent male just below steel bridge at Orleans. Couple other guys there had like 8, mostly males maybe 2 that were females. It was probally better at other times today, I was there at 2 to 3pm. Like it better at dawn or dusk myself.

The bridge was what I had always thought, but like mocarp was saying I always just went with 10" it's not going to hurt to let those shorts get some more time. Thanks for the verification mcrump!

Pun intended! My son and I went down below Orleans today and bank fished. Had some fun, didn't catch but one small male white, but did catch some crappie on some minnows and a couple small channels. My son and I both caught a couple 9'' and a couple 9 1/2", but I had him throw them back. He asked me what the size limit was, I said that I always just shot for 10" like I was on the lake. Is the split from lake to river at the steel bridge? Or is it somewhere else, just would like to be sure I'm telling my boy the right information. Thanks!

Well I went for a little while this morning, water is looking good this year, I had zero luck though, but get the temps up and were gonna have a good season!
-
Let us know how it goes! Been pondering going down tomorrow morning just to check things out.
-
Yeah that is spot on, chartreuse is the color tail I was using on my rooster tail, and slow retrieve, and it was all that would work for me.
-
I went down last night, caught 8, below Orleans. 4 were females and eggs were soft and bloody for sure.
-
So here's the picture, all the males were good sized, I agree that the females ought to be coming soon.

Went from 4 to 8 this evening, was on a canoe below Orleans. Caught 10, my buddy caught 4, it wasn't gang busters but had fun. All mine came on a rooster tail. Also they were all males. Tried to upload picture, but having issues.

I always describe it as the last bridge before you reach the main lake.

Thanks again, I love when the spawn gets going, I will give a report tonight when I get back.
-
Were you at Taylor or at Orleans? I was planning to go tomorrow night, figured the rain did the trick! Thanks for the post.
-
Well went back this evening shortly for about an hour or so, had no luck, hope the predicted storms help get the water going before the warm up!
-
I plan on going back tomorrow, I will give a report if I have any luck one way or the other.

I have been down to Orleans twice this last week, Monday night I caught a couple small white males, went again Tuesday morning and got nothing but a couple short crappie and some short largemouth. They are getting close for sure. Just need some relevant rain fall. And all those caught were on a real slow and deep retrieve.
-
I hope to get it done soon, I appreciate all the information, if I have any luck I will let you know. May post some pictures too!

I went to the railroad bridge got two males, looking at the riffle below it would hard for them to come up much further. May just have to breakout my kayak and float down from 215. My brother was wondering how the fishing was below Taylor?
-
I'm a bank fisher, and sometimes use my kayak, I assumed that baller was using a boat, but I wasn't for sure, think I'm gonna try going to the railroad bridge this morning, haven't ever tried there before, couldn't hurt?
-
bwcballer10, when you went a little further up, were you near the old railroad bridge, or were you further? I've never been up much past Taylor, don't know if a boat can go much further past the old railroad bridge.
-
Hope you find em again! Love hearing reports from the river, good luck.
-
Are they far up? Seems like most are having luck at Taylor, but haven't heard much around Orleans. I have had only moderate luck at either.
-
Went to our favorite private fishing pond and enjoyed catching a couple in the wind. Had a good time with the family.
-
Chomper thank you, I appreciate the advice, I've heard about the a rig and have been interested in trying it. Now even more so! I will apply your knowledge, and thanks again for all of the info.
-
That's great to hear, been bank fishing around Orleans for the last couple weekends with little luck, sounds like I might need to go ahead and move up, what's been their favorite, hope I'm not prying too much.

You fishing from a boat or the bank? And what set up has been working for you?
