  1. Put in at CC and go up Turnback. Good fishing and not too difficult. Walleye followed by the whites later. Just take it easy. If you see some older guys taking it slow follow them. What kind of boat do you have? Have not been past the 160 bridge in several years, but used to be no problem to keep going even though it starts getting tight.
  2. Maybe I am just getting older and wiser, but it seems like dangerous boating activity has become much more prevelant. I see people doing things that my dad or grandpa would have never done and I would never do. I think part of the issue is a lot people didn't learn from older generations. Same thing goes for etiquette on golf courses
  3. After 10 years without a boat, have decided to get back into the market for one. Kids are of the age they need to experience boating fun & safety like I did as a youngster (and better fishing). Have decided an aluminum 17' or 18' deep vee is what we need to cover all the ways we will use a boat for years to come. The part I am struggling with is where is the best value. A new fish/ski setup is over $30k, out of my price range, and can't use it enough to justify anyways. On the other end are 20-25 year old boats/motors in a $4-10k range that still seems expensive for the age.. Plus, with buying aluminum you get into riveted vs all welded and how much wood is inside those older boats. 5-15 year old boats seems you might as well buy new or take a chance on an older/cheaper one. Should I even entertain the idea of a 20 year old carbuerated 2 stroke? When testing a boat on the water, what are some small things to look for that could mean big problems beyond the obvious? How much in scrap are these old boats worth, because that must play a role in prices on the low end. Looking at a 1995 18' Lowe that has had some hull work with a 115 2 stroke. Guy won't go below $8500. To me, that's more like a $4500 boat, but maybe I am just in fantasy land instead of the other way around. Any pointers or things to run fast from are appreciated.
  4. Anybody know what kind of deal the Corps has with Ameren? Stockton and Truman are treated much differently it seems as they protect LOTO and imo secondarily the Missouri River
  5. Why don't you see more jet boats (inboard or outboard) on Taneycomo? When I moved to central Missouri jet boats are very popular up here on the Osage and Gasconade. Is it cost or just not necessary? Performance or just preference? Not saying I want them, but just curious as I would think they would have caught on more by now. In my younger days I knew the lake well enough to get to the dam with the water pretty low and never damaged a prop or lower unit. But I always felt a little lucky after each trip up.
  6. Yes, it's called the weather and climate summit. And it's to keep their grant money
  7. You can't trust the data because "scientists" have been cooking the books for decades to fit their narrative. Weather feels more extreme because we can see it now. Even 15 years ago West Plains' flooding would not have made the national news. Same goes for tornados and hurricanes. There is more attention and emotion because of the instant effect of social media. I do think the midwest is getting more moisture. Record PWAT values that are more tropical. Mankind is not near as powerful as we want to believe. The sun is what dictates our planet's well being.
  8. It's a 5 or 6 miles below the dam. Less as the crow flies
  9. At Stockton, wasn't there a problem with the turbine and generator basically being a mismatch? And they didn't fix it until it finally failed a few years ago? Stockton, Truman, and Pomme all there to protect precious LOTO anyways. Plus, Stockton releases are eroding one of the oldest and artifact rich Native Ameican sites in the midwest (big eddy)
  10. Jeff City has had the same thing in the last year. Two "100 yr" rain events last August. Two weeks apart got over 6" of rain in just a couple of hours from storm complexes. Areas that have never flooded got flooded. Local stormwater systems also not designed to handle increased development and moisture. Look at last weeks SGF NWS forecast discussion, this rain event saw PWAT levels never seen before in April by that office. We had a January rain storm in Mid MO that also had record PWAT levels for that month. PWAT measures how much usable moisture is in the atmosphere. The higher they are the more rain/snow a system can wring out as precip. Also, I don't have a problem with keeping levels up more or at least steadier. Drawing TR down too far is hard on infrastructure and wildlife.
  11. Nobody's is wrong so far. Compared to my youth, it seems like they don't draw the lakes down as low in the winter as they used to. Add to that increased moisture efficiency of the atmoshphere which more resembles tropical climates and runoff from all the tree clearing & concrete. The solution to me is the Corps being proactive instead of reactive.
  12. Was actually on Taneycomo last Friday before the storms and water rise. Good fishing most of the afternoon just above 65 down to the landing. Caught a couple between Lilleys and Cooper Access. Not much luck up by Fall Creek. We stayed at OTR as Lilley's was booked when we planned our trip. Water was up 2 feet Saturday morning and I had no desire to be on the lake with more storms and water rises expected. Went up to the dam and fished back water, couple of hits on jigs was all. Got back just before Saturday PM storms started and not long after Branson FD was coming down the road to the resorts. Heeded the Branson FD evacuation request on Saturday evening. I live in the Jeff City area now. Mainly bank fish the city parks here when I have time. When the kids get a bit older will be going to Bennett more often.
  13. Thanks Phil. The dock I am referring to is still there. There is an enclosed area with a pitched roof in the middle with slips on each side. Looks like RV/boat storage up the bank behind it now, but no houses/resort. Just can't remember what that was. Docked looked to be in disrepair.
  14. Lurked from time to time for years. Moved out of the Ozarks so haven't been fishing as much down that way last few years. Grew up fishing Taneycomo, Table Rock, Stockton, and any creek or river in between. Crane Creek, North Fork, Spring River, Current, Big & Little Sugar, etc. Some of my favorite fishing memories are from strippin woolies below TR dam at night back when I was young and had all the time in the world and didn't need sleep before getting to school or work the next day in Springfield. Taneycomo always a special place overall due to family fishing trips as a youngster. Hope to get the fly-rod back out sometime soon. It's been too long
  15. What did the long dock down from Trout Hollow use to be? Was on the lake for first time in 10 years last week, looks completely abandoned now.
