I haven't tried it yet this year, but I have had success with a small Griffiths Gnat in clear water if you can find some midging fish near the surface. I haven't fished during the daytime in a month though, I've been fishing streamers at night.
  2. Sounds like fun. I’ll be checking it out.
  3. That would be my guess. I think you could do very well with a stick bait up there at night right now. Saw someone land several fish last night from the bank halfway between Outlet 1 and 2, but I couldn't tell what he was fishing with. Unfortunately I've also seen a couple groups up there that are very loud and shine their lights on the water. I stay downstream of them.
  4. I've been fishing nights up under the dam. I just posted a report.
  5. I've been on the water several nights this last week under the dam. The water is usually off by 9:00. Last night they ran it until 10:00 which made for a late start. Generally very good fly fishing with a lot of healthy aggressive fish caught. Mostly rainbows up to 18 inches and an occasional white bass. Only one brown. I've averaged between 24-36 fish in four hours and typically hook up fish every 2-3 casts. Last night was slower and the fish were smaller. Successful patterns have been #8 Hibernators and pine squirrel sculpin in black, purple, brown, and olive. I am fishing them on a 7 1/2 foot 3X leader. Dead-drifting them with an occasional burst of 3-4 very short fast strips seems to work best. Most nights they hit it hard. Last night was a more subtle affair where you would just feel a slight weight on the end of your line. I am generally starting somewhere between Outlet 1 and 2 and working down to Outlet 3. There have been a lot of bank fisherman up around the cable. It looks like they are probably going to run the water a little later tonight so I am going to catch up on some sleep.
  6. Yeah, there's some bigger one's in that hole too. I've been having some luck throwing small wooly buggers into it when the water's off.
  7. Great video!!! I was on the water the same morning throwing to midging fish just above there around Lookout Island. Probably passed you on the way down.
  8. I prefer the type that is just a small colored foam ball with a hole through the center. I rig them with a short piece of rubber band as the stopper rather than the toothpicks they come with. This will allow you to slide it up and down to quickly adjust your depth. The toothpicks tend to swell when they get wet and you'll never get them out or slide them easily. To rig them just pass the line through the hole, double it back through, then double it back through again to create a loop you can use to pull your rubber band through doubled over. Whether you use the rubber band or toothpick method, make sure to trim it off flush with the indicator on both sides so you don't get wind knots.
  9. Hello everybody! I've used this site to get fishing reports and insight for quite some time. I've always thought it was a fantastic resource. I thought I should make it official and sign up. I've lived in Branson my whole life. I mostly fly fish. Outside of work you can usually find me somewhere on Taneycomo or tying flies . . . or in one of the local fly shops buying stuff to fish or tie flies.
