Ah yes, thanks, that makes sense. I believe I had that on spinning reel, 8 lb mono, med light action rod.

Lol, forgive me, but I'm not quite sure what you are asking! I should probably buy some more. I've been using the same 200 for over 5 years and that one caught my PB smallmouth at Stockton so I should retire that one so I don't lose it!

Been a while so decided to get out before rain comes. Decided to put in at PC and go south. On water about 8. It was colder than I thought it would be, but warmed up mid morning. No bites early, up near PC so moved down to Monte ne area. Found water 52.4 deg and had some success on small secondary points and also in the very backs of pockets. Everything shallow , most in the 3 - 8 ft range. Most came on bandit 200. Ended day with 12, all spots. Only 3 keepers. Nothing photo worthy.

Forgot to mention, water was super clear - could see bottom at 20 ft. Need some good rains to stir things up a bit!

Back from Florida so decided to shake the cobwebs off the fishing gear. Just a few hours as had a late start due to waiting for the tree guy to down a dead oak on property and haul off. Slow fishing. Did get 3 including a nice fat 17" smallmouth. Tried hard to get one on a jerk bait. No luck. Tried swim bait to no avail. All 3 came on Ned, but all at different locations. Saw a few other boats, but not close enough to see if any action. Wt 45 deg

Not fishing as much...
AR Huzgr replied to trythisonemv's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Ideally, I go 2-3 x per week. However, I also golf, bike and hike which take my time. I generally don't fish on weekends either, especially in summer. Just got back from several weeks in Florida so ready to get back at it. Retirement has helped me fish more though -
I've only been fishing Beaver for 1.5 yrs so my depth of experience is a bit limited on this lake, but I have had success on it. I have not fished the river arms down south. I have fished down to hickory, but not further south. May and June, I'm probably putting in at lost bridge north if targeting smallmouth or early a.m. striper bite and then prairie Creek if targeting walleye (though I have caught them anywhere from horseshoe bend down to dam. I also live in BV and usually fish solo. Feel free to hit me up if you ever want to come with (March or later as am in Florida for a bit now).

Michigan Record for a Burbot

Looks like a cousin to the dogfish. -
I believe walleye eggs need a current for successful hatching which is why it's tough to get them to reproduce in any reservoir in numbers. Some years you may get perfect inflow conditions and probably more often then not, less than ideal conditions.

Nice outing! I haven't been on that end of lake for a while but maybe should try for some brown fish. I have a few weeks before I head south for warmer weather for a bit. I bet you had the lake to yourself!

Thought I'd get out, now that I'm healthy again, and take advantage of the winter solstice letting me sleep in just a bit before sunrise at 7:20. Was a bit of a grind. I couldn't find any real pattern. Got a few schooled up K's but for the most part those stacked up really didn't want anything and we're pretty tight-lipped. The few I did get I got off at Ned rig. Moved back in some coves and started fishing a little more active and got some K's both on a rock crawler and a bandit 200. Fishing rocky banks and channel swings. Nothing of real size but the larger fish did come off the crankbaits, specifically the bandit seemed to produce slightly bigger fish. Overall not a stellar day but ended up with 10, though none photo worthy. There were a lot of striper fishermen around horseshoe bend though I didn't see anybody catching any. Didn't see any top water either. Water temp 49.5

I'd take it! Still not on water myself, making sure fully healed up. Using my of water time to smoke a brisket today. Will probably get out later this week. Great fish color on bottom photo.

My stubborn brain keeps thinking they have to be somewhere. But your approach is the right one, catch those that want to be caught, so to speak. Unfortunately, I have pneumonia so will be off water for a bit which is painful given the weather forecast this week.

The winter / later fall walleye have been elusive to me since early October. Still learning the lake patterns but other than one here or there, haven't had much. But will figure out eventually (maybe) 🤔.

Went out early to see if I could see any top water striper activity. I didn't see any right away so started fishing main lake points in HB area with an assortment of lures. One decent striper (based on splash) surfaced behind my boat so I fired a pencil popper at it and it came up and knocked the lure about a foot or two bit didn't hook up. Never resurfaced nor did I see any more . Moved around a bit and caught a couple on a swimbait but that was it for most of morning. On way back to ramp, stopped at a mid channel hump and saw radar of stacked fish. Tried swimbait and war eagle spoon with no love. Switched to Ned (money color) and that seemed to turn them on. Ended with 15, mostly spots, couple LM and one 16 in walleye. All about same size. Water temp 54-55 Here's a representative photo or two to make this post more interesting! Lol

Great day fishing! Are the fish needing trees nearby or just relating to steep banks?
-
Went out of PC early. Heavy fog on lake so didn't venture too far up lake. Threw rock crawler, swim bait, jig and a little bit of ned rig. No love along steep Rock Banks. I did get 8 or so on top water (all K's) including one double. They were sporadic but consistent with the top water, mostly in about 40+ft water. Got one crappie at 40 ft with war eagle spoon. Fog lifted about 830-900 range. Didn't catch a thing after that so headed back. Water temp 59-60

One or two solo splashes but nothing remotely labeled as tw activity.
-
Got out in the morning, early. Hoped to find tw striper but none to be found. Went back to the trees and fished swim bait for a while with no takers and then caught a 15 in largemouth. Wind picked up so I went back towards the lower end of Indian and cast a rock crawler off steep wind blown rock banks and got 2 more smallies, biggest being a skinny 17 inches. Off water by 11. Not a great day fishing but still nice to get out. Water temp was 60-61 range.

Like Quillback, I haven't gone out too much. Partly because I don't really like to fish deep as not my favorite style of fishing. My mom (89 yo) just had her hip replaced 2 weeks ago. They put her in short term rehab facility because my 90 y.o. father couldn't really help her. She goes home this week but really no pain to speak of. She is doing PT and ot in the facility so that probably helps. I have a knee replacement in future, but trying to push that off a few years. Will probably get back on water later this week

Thanks very much for the information RPS. That is a great description and I look forward to learning the fall patterns!

Does Hypoid gear oil SAE 90 = GL5?

Does Hypoid gear oil SAE 90 = GL5?
AR Huzgr replied to AR Huzgr's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thanks for the follow up fishinwrench. I suppose since the motor is 17 years old, the answer is go by what's on the current container, i.e., the UD GL4 rated, and don't worry about the term hypoid in the manual. -
I have a 2006 Yamaha f115. The manual calls for hypoid sae #90. Does Hypoid=any GL5 rated gear oil? What makes it confusing is yamalube has a HD (GL5) but says it is for the bigger motors. The UD (GL4) shows as for the F115. It makes it a bit unclear whether I should be using something that specifically says hypoid, or just go with the Yama lube UD which says GL4.

I should be out there as well. I had to miss learning the lake last fall when I had my truck totalled so looking forward to actually fishing here in October. I'm curious how the walleye transition from summer spots.
