  6. Any idea what the limit is in Illinois?
  7. I fished these exact areas last week while staying at Stillwater Resort and had the same result. We caught a really nice smallmouth on a spinnerbait, but caught most of them on a shakey head jig with a 4 inch grub. Don't get down there much, but visit the forum often so I figure I owe a report. Fished several points within Indian point and found smallmouth with the grub as well.
  8. Cabela's has there titanium rods on sale now for $90. Originally $190. Nice rod. Flexible guides. Lifetime replacement. These are closeouts. The clerk said if you break it in the future, you will get the new style. They still have several at the Hazelwood store.
  9. Looking to replace my starting battery. I am looking at the Optima 34M or D34M. The 34M is a starting battery only and the D34M is a deep cycle, but can also be used a starting battery. I plan to upgrade my electronics in the next few years and I am leaning towards the D34M. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these batteries? Or, a suggestion of a different brand? Thanks, Dave
  10. Do the water separator filters help with this at all? I recently had one installed by the advice of my mechanic.
  11. Stayed with my brother in Springfield on Wednesday evening and left first thing Thursday morning(5am). I called and was excited to hear only two units were running. By the time I got down there, 4 units were going so I tied up and hit outlet two. Did really well with a grey scud and san juan worms(red and brown). Biggest fish of the day was a 19.5 inch rainbow. It was cold when I first showed up, but by 11am, I was down to a light jacket. Got hungry around 1pm so I left to meet up with my buddies. We all come down once a year in January. They all like to bait fish so I come down a bit early to get some use out of my waders. I did go out and fish with them Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. We all caught our limits using one white and either pink or orange as the second power egg. I had enough of that on Friday afternoon and the water was shut off so I decided to leave them behind and fished right out from the boat ramp down from the dam. I tied on an #18 black zebra midge with a gold bead and silver wire and never had to change my fly. Caught a bunch. Saturday was cold, so I decided to fish from the boat. Again, white egg with another color was the ticket. I also tried a white jig and a count down rapala and caught several Only fished for an hour on Sunday morning before the trip back to STL. Overall, great trip.
  12. I go to Jefferson Lake most of the time. I also go to Tilles occasionally. I agree, the small jigs work best for me. I usually bring an assortment of colors including black, black/yellow, brown, olive, chartruese, and white. Bass Pro shops 1/100th oz. I occasionally try other things, but I hate losing my tied flys on these little stockers. The fish that are not poached make it to atleast Feb. 1st before half the city comes out for catch and keep. Last year Jefferson lake froze over and once it unthawed, about 1500 fish were floating dead. Maybe this is why they stocked the piss ants this year.
  13. That is the map I found as well on the MDC site. It looks like it is 1.5-2 miles from Lane Spring. Is that whole section wadable? Or, do you have to drive down to that crossing? If so, is there a place to park?
  14. Coming down with some buddies who will be deer hunting next weekend. I am wanting to try the Little Piney for the first time and plan from the maps to start at Lane Spring. How far down stream is the vida slab? I don't see it on the map I have.
  15. What is the hotline # to call for stocking info? I went by Forest Park yesterday afternoon and it had not been stocked yet. Seems this is the last one in the STL area to be stocked each year.
  16. Piscator I have already taken the boat to dealership that I will not name to have it checked out. They did a compression check and verified everything is working properly. They gave me a laundry list of things I should do, not sure they are really all needed. Water separator, engine tune up, etc. Seems they were wanting me to do alittle to much. I have taken the boat out and it runs great. The boat looks great as well. All electronics and gadgets work great as well. If your looking for an awesome lake close to St. Louis you have got to go to Lake Kinkaid in Murphysboro, Il. The Bass, Crappie, and Muskie fishing are excellent. It's less than 100 miles from St. Louis. Just as far as some of the good Small Mouth rivers and creeks. Thanks for the advice!
  17. Piscator, I am in the St. Louis area as well. Who do you take your boat to for maintenance?
  18. When looking to purchase a used boat, what pricing guide should be looked at? Nada? Do sellers normally get these prices? Looking at a 03 21ft. 290 FS Stratos with a 200 VMAX. The motor has 80 hours on it. Boat is very clean and everything checks out. The Nada guide says it's worth @ $22K. Owner wants $19k. Good buy? First boat purchase.
  19. Heading down to Bennett on Wednesday evening with two buddies. Both are die hard bass and crappie fisherman and had never caught trout on a fly rod. We woke up early for the horn on Thursday so they could experience the crowd waiting anxiously to toss their line into the water. One of my buddies limited out by 10am using only his fly rod so he was happy. The other guy could not quite get the hang of the fly rod so he switched back to his spinning reel, but he also limited out by 10am. He was also happy since he had never gotten his limit at a trout park. Seems hard to believe, but he has only been a hand full of times. With the help of all the guys posting here, I made sure I used that knowledge to stock up on those certain flies and fish the areas mentioned here. It was a great time and we caught a ton of fish. Caught them on the following: cracklebacks, brown scuds, prince and hare's ear nymphs, chamois worms, san juan worms, jigs,wd-40,zebra midge, glo balls The brown scud was the most consistent. It caught fish in the spring hole almost all day long. It was a great few days hanging out and getting a few more guys interesting in trout fishing!! Thanks for the info! Dave
  20. Kids younger than 16 as well need a trout stamp to harvest trout and fish the catch and release times. This does not apply to the trout parks during normal operation. All they need is a daily tag. This is the way I understood it anyway.
  21. FFM, I am from Columbia, Il. and I too wish I could make it down to Taney more often. You do not need to go to any trout parks or drive 4.5 hours to trout fish in the winter. They stock Jefferson Lake in Forest Park and several other lakes around St. Louis each winter. This usually starts around the same time the trout parks start their catch and release. Actually, a few of the lakes you can keep them and they restock every few weeks. You may have already known this, but I thought I would mention it. I fish more in the winter than the rest of the since I don't have to drive so far. Dave
  22. Thanks rwolfe. I can't seem to find the map that shows the line to take up to the dam. I have looked all over the site. Is it on this site or located at his resort store?
  23. Coming down to spend some time on Table Rock and Taney. Bringing the new boat. I am a little nervous about taking it above Fall Creek since I have never taken any boat past Fall Creek. I have seen other posts about this, but I have a 21ft. fish n ski. How many units need to be running for me to not be concerned? With all the water I assume outlet fishing is the only option when not in a boat? Have they been shutting down the water at all? Would like to also wade fish a bit. Guess I may need to stop by Bennett to get any wade fishing in? Dave
