  1. Welcome to the forum Strangler. You aren't from Boston are you?
  2. I have never fished for them there but I see a lot of people catch them around the bridge. Good luck.
  3. I have not noticed gar being particularly line or hook shy. I have hooked a lot of them using a bass rig. To set up use as long of a hook as you can find, one of those small, long shanked bream hooks will work, put on a minnow and a split shot about 3 inches above the hook then a bobber about a foot above that. Cast out in the middle of them. Good luck
  4. That is a strange law. I reckon if something say toxic to fish were spilled in the water it would not harm the fish as long as it was spilled from a plastic bottle; if the same product were to be spilled from a glass bottle it would kill all the fish in the river Looks to me like another law designed to keep the oil companies in business. Seems about right that law enforcement would be harassing people who might have a glass container on the streams rather than go after the real hoodlums. Oh, well what do I know.
  5. Link to a map of Stockton Lake. What time does everyone want to do this?
  6. Sam: You are saying the same think as I was but, you sure make it sound better. Guess I better stay out of politics huh?
  7. Well yeah but, I mean is it from people, cows, horses....come to think of it there is a lot of fish crap in the water too. Anyway I was just wondering what the major source is.
  8. Am I missing something in these posts? Is it illegal to have glass on the rivers? As in its OK to discard plastic products in the rivers but not glass products?
  9. No doubt there is some truth to what you are saying but so called sport species of fish have pressure on them where rough fish are mostly left to propagate unchecked. I have seen small lakes get over taken by rough fish. Why should large lakes be different?
  10. I wonder where it is coming from.
  11. They were what I have always been told are white suckers, and yes I kept them. These were the same kind of suckers I always catch in Taney, I either don't know the difference between white, yellow or blue sucker or I haven't caught any that look different than normal.
  12. I guess the wild hogs people are griping about are native now. If someone turned loose some Elephants I guess they would be native too. It all seems silly to me but I am just a guy who likes to fish. I agree with crappiefisherman; I think I will go fishing.
  13. Ohhh, well then you gotta go. Seriously I was just joking. I hope you have a good time and a safe trip.
  14. Went to Taney this afternoon and have a report. The fishing was extremely WET AND WINDY with pea sized hail thrown in just for fun. The catching was so so. Caught 4 trout and two suckers. Caught them floating night crawlers.
  15. I am with Leonard....rain doesn't bother me but when it comes to lightning, I am out of there. I see no good reason to wave a rod around when there is lightning about.
  16. Looks like you are having a great time Phil. Keep the pics coming it is as close as I will get to Alaska.
  17. With the lack of people catching and keeping them I am sure there is an abundance of so called trash fish in Bull Shoals. Why should it be different than all the other lakes around here. Maybe some bow-fishing or gigging tournaments would be a good thing.
  18. They are a problem for sure. On the plus side the Redears ought to get big from gorging on all those zebras.
  19. Jenny thanks for the reports. I wish gas prices were cheaper so I could make more trips up there.
  20. I don't have any plans to fish there but on the other hand I don't like to see public tax dollars wasted. Brown Trout are from Europe and would have no natural way to migrate here and are therefore not native. If it is true that the area has no public access then why spend tax dollars to introduce and maintain a totally non-native species to it? Makes no sense to me. And I agree with Ham with no way to vote against it makes me believe this poll is slanted. Being able to post negative makes doesn't cut any ice because a lot of people can make positive or negative comments. Is someone going to sort out and tally the negative posts and check them against the positive posts? Besides your thread says "We want Browns in the Eleven Point"
  21. Now thats a boat.
  22. I tried a Okuma reel a few years ago. The experience was not good. The reel was very cheaply made, was heavy and clunky and did not make it through one fishing season. I have not bought another one since. I don't know about the Helios as I haven't tried them. I would buy a Diawa or Shimano but that is just my opinion.
  23. Save the gas and go to Taney instead.
  24. SM: You make a good argument and certainly an interesting read. One point you touched on but did not bring into your discussion is migration. Yes, man migrates and other species do too. If Rainbow or Brown trout had migrated here naturally I would consider them native, if carp had migrated here naturally I would consider them native and so on. The problem is they did not migrate here naturally they were brought here by man. In some cases the species brought here by man would not survive without mans continual 're-stocking'. Terry: Sorry I apparently misunderstood your post. If SMB migrated here naturally then they are native IMO. In the case of Brown Trout; how would they have ever naturally migrated to Missouri? Dano: Yeah, what you said.
  25. Makers Mark is good
