  1. I fished there last week. Didn't fare so well. Caught a few crappie and white bass plus a couple of short walleye. I wish it wasn't so far up there from Marshfield. I would like to go more often. Of course if the price of gas would come down it wouldn't be so far; or rather it wouldn't seem so far. The cost of the trip from empty to full costs way to much anymore and has gotten to where it is cutting into my fishing time. I hope to go up that way again next week. I hope they are still biting.
  2. I think that most fly rods, as most fishing equipment, is made to catch the fisherman. The higher priced the equipment gets the better it is at separating the fisherman from his money. For example the average fisherman who is going to hit the water 5 or 6 times per year probably is better served with lower priced equipment rather than a $700/800 rod and $300/400 reel. Don't get me wrong I dont have anything against higher priced equipment. If a person fishes or travels to exotic fishing location and therefore demands a lot out of his/her fishing equipment then better equipment is in order. I am just not sold on the idea that $700 rods are one bit better than $150 rods for the average fisherman or in general for that matter. I have heard some argue that if you are going to travel then you need to buy the best equipment because something might break on a fishing trip. I am not sure I buy into this argument either. I am going to use Sage and TFO as examples simply because they are well known rods. Lets say a person is looking at a $700 Sage rod vs a $150 TFO rod. If the determining factor was thatI was worried the TFO might break I would simply buy a second TFO for a backup rod. Then I would have $300 in two rods rather than $700 in one rod. I could use the $400 I saved to go on a fishing trip or buy some other equipment or whatever.
  3. I certainly dont want to make it more confusing. If another catagory is put there or not really doesnt make much difference. I actually posted that before I really thought about it.
  4. Nothing.
  5. I caught two crappie.
  6. That would be fine too. I was just thinking since it is not really the lake and actually two rivers.....
  7. Anyone have a fishing report for Twin Bridges this week? I plan to go this weekend and am wondering what this cold front has done for the fishing.
  8. You might want to consider having a separate link for Twin Bridges. I know it is officially on Grand Lake but it is really river fishing.
  9. I think rudeness has became the norm in our society. I think it all started with the psychologists and their "whats right for you" teachings; you know the ones who say don't spank a child for doing whats wrong, give the child a cookie and say "now don't do it again. Those people have instilled a 'me first before anybody else attitude' in the younger generations. I didn't see the cove you were talking about but you should try going to a handicapped fishing dock sometime; its like taking your life in your own hands.
  10. Went to Grand Lake today. Caught some really nice Crappie and several white bass. Seems like most everything was being caught. I seen several spoonbill, whites, some crappie and quiet a few catfish caught today. The water was on the rise and the whites were deeper than they had been. There was a lot of trash coming down the Neosho arm and the current was really swift. The Spring arm wasnt bad.
  11. Thom: Thats for sure. Handicapped people would be well warned to stay away from handicapped access points, unless they want to use their canes and such to ward off the masses that is. Funny thing is I dont really understand what the appeal of the handicapped spots is. Sure a non-handicapped person can walk up to the easily but they are not usually located in good fishing locations. Ohhh well like the rougher element in the aluminum hatch it is just another of those things I really dont understand.
  12. I went to Warsaw Friday. The fishing was slow but there were some being picked up here and there. I caught 8 keeper crappie, 2 small walleye and 2 hybrids. All in all it wasn't a bad day but the fishing wasn't good enough to get excited about. The bite was starting to pick up just before dark but, I had to leave. They didnt run the water the whole time I was there
  13. I also wish it wasn't such a long drive from Marshfield.
  14. MMMmmm Corn Chips. Ok Leanord, c'mon with the details. Whats up with the Corn Chips? Kinda like stuffing a Turkey? Does a person eat the stuffing and throw away the trout or eat the trout and throw away the stuffing?
  15. Welcome RickG. I used to live in Aurora. I fished at Roaring River a lot when I lived there. Moved away a few years ago. I live closer to Taney and Bennett than Roaring River nowadays.
  16. I like to fillet them with the skin on, season (salt, pepper, herbs ect) the flesh side, roll the fillet skin side out, wrap a piece or two or three of bacon around, secure with tooth picks, and grill. I dont see why a person couldn't do the same thing with them whole.
  17. Just to clear up a point. I wasn't dissing on fly fishermen in general. I am a fly fisherman myself when when I am up to it. I was just commenting on the fact that there seems to be some animosity between fly fishermen and spin fishermen at Bennett. By and large I have met a lot of nice people, both fly and spin, fishermen at Bennett, Taney and Roaring River. The difference between the two seems to stand out most at Bennett is all. Ohhh and yes, be it fly fishermen or spin fishermen it is not worth getting upset over the jerks out there no matter who they are. I fish to have a good time. If I want to fight I will go to a bar somewhere.
  18. Trade you one of my hand built F-5 Mandolins (list $2000.00) for one.
  19. I tried mu luck spin fishing at Bennett Saturday afternoon. I am not as good as most fishermen. I was there 5 hours and only caught 8 fish; 5 bows, 2 brownies and one small jaw. From reading this forum I realize I should have caught somwhere between 50 and 300 fish in 5 hours. I reckon I just aint a very good fisherman. Average size of the trout seemed to be a little larger than last year and it seemed there were more than the normal amount small browns being caught, didnt see any big ones. The Small Mouth I caught weighed about 3.5 lbs. I didnt think to take any pics of him. First time I ever caught one of those at Bennett. I am not sure what he had been eating but he was chunky enough for me to know he hadn't missed many meals. The fish were biting on just about everything as long as it was John Deere Green, White or Olive colored jigs. Micros were out producing standard jigs. My shoulders have really been bothering me so I didn't fly fish this trip so I am not sure what the fly fishermen were using. One of the funny things I have noticed about Bennett is that there appears to be some friction between fly fishermen and spin fishermen. When I go there with my fly rod I am treated quiet respectfully by the fly fishermen but when I am spin fishing they (fly fishermen) tend to act like I am a second rate fisherman and at times can be down right rude. This last trip I was sitting on one of the handicap jetties and had a group of 5 fly fishermen wade right out in front of me and eventually completely blocked my fishing lane. I started casting in another direction but within about 30 minutes there were more than ten of them grouped up right in front of me. They appeared to care less that they had molested my fishing and were totally blocking any access I had to the river. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go around. Anyway determined not to let the jerks ruin my afternoon, I the handicapped fisherman, got up and moved to another location. All in all I had a great afternoon at Bennett. The Smallie I caught there was a bonus for the day.
  20. I tried eating them whole one time. Their head was really crunchy and their fins kept getting hung up in my mouth.
  21. Spoonbill 94Lb Near Osceola Flathead 83Lb MarisdeCygnes River White/Blue 51Lb Truman Spillway
  22. It seems like Taney would be a good walleye lake. If there are many in there it looks like they would do a lot of reproducing. I would like to get into some of those crappie Phil is talking about.
  23. Cool. Good fishing for Crappie and Gills would make it difficult for a person to keep his mind on trout. Catching any Walleye?
  24. There are Bass in The Rock???
  25. You might give Phil a try. He sells some nice rods for jig and float fishing. I thought the prices were very reasonable.
