  1. I have never said stem cell research should be totally outlawed or banned. We are already doing stem cell research so I see no need for a decitful special ammendment to the MO constitution protecting and funding research that is already being done. In fact having this up for ammendment to the constitution makes me believe there is more sneaky about it than meets the eye. If it was honestly legitimate there would be no need to ammend our constitution to make it legal. Looks to me like nothing more than protectionisim of a special interst group.
  2. I think you are right on this one. I think it is well thought out and well written to meet the wants and desires of those who wrote it and decieve the rest of us.
  3. Dang snagged I didnt know you had been feeling poorly. At least I guess you been feeling poorly cuz it sure seems the doc has you on some of the really good drugs. ROFL
  4. I dunno about that Terry. Nowadays I am starting to believe my kids are big enough to whip my butt. Of course they do lack experience....
  5. In other words just haphazardly make it law then change it later. Sorry but that dog dont hunt. I believe that getting it right the first time is the appropiate and prudent action.
  6. I dunno about ya'll. Looks to me like ya aire working to hard. I have been trainin me a pair of otters to retrieve my fish for me. When I get em trained not to eat everything they catch I will be able to just sit on the bank and have fresh fish brung t me at my leisure.
  7. Uhhhh, Terry, do I detect just a hint of sarcasim in that post?
  8. Excellent point Phil and I stand down on that part of the argument. It would be better to break the fish off than to for sure kill it. That brings up another question however, Wouldn't it be better to not fish at all when the DO is below a certain level?
  9. After a lifetime of observation I have noticed that I can go to McDonalds and get a cup of coffee for my opinion and a buck; or I can get a cup of coffee for just the buck; however I have as yet to get a cup of coffee for my opinion only. I wonder what is up with that...
  10. Now you ruined it for me Dano. I always thought it was a giant brownie burping after a good meal of sucker.
  11. Guess enough time and enough lawyers will figuer it out huh?
  12. Here is some Drama for you. I am sitting here with most joints in my body stiff as a board and very painful. I am having a bad RA flare up. I find myself wishing I was able to go to Taney and shuffle up a few fish. On the bright side maybe by next week I can make it down to Phils and sit on his dock soaking up the sun and with any luck catch a fish.
  13. Secfly: Until I got on this forum I had never heard of shuffling. The best I can gather is that if you arent casting at least 20 feet you are accsued of shuffling. Anyway since being on here I have watched people who were fishing in close and have yet to spot even one person who was actually shuffling. Do I think it happenes yes, do I think it is a wide spread practice as is implied...No. I will probably get into trouble for this statement but basically I think the whole shuffling argument boils down to tension between fly fishermen vs spin fisherman. It seems that fly fishermen believe that if a person isn't fly fishing and is actually catching trout, they must be shuffling or perpetrating some other horribly unethical act. I have never understood this because I own and use both fly equipment and spin equipment and regularly catch fish on both without ever stepping into the water. THere is similar tension between longbow vs recurve bow hunters, and recurve vs compound bow hunters and compound bow hunters vs crossbow hunters. In short it is one of those 'do these jeans make my butt look fat' questions. It is best avoided all the way around.
  14. I dont know how else to read it. To me it says that monies have to be paid to stem cell research above all other things...emergencies, schools, public health ect ect Another cool touch is that women who have their ovaries over stimulated during egg farming causing infertility have no rights to recourse. Yep. This is an ammendment I am going to rush out and vote on.......NOT
  15. Like Terry I have never foul hooked a trout that I know of or if I have they never made it to the net. Ethically I dont know that it is a good thing to break the fish off and leave line hanging on them. I don't see the hook as being a serious issue but the line could get entangled on objects or other fish and cause damage.
  16. You are right Wayne but is this issue different? I think so otherwise there would not need to be an ammendment. Here are a couple of quotes from earlier discussion: Basically the taxpayers in MO would be investors no different than if they bought into businesses on the stock market. I dont think the stock holders would be very happy if they pay all the bills and never get any returns while someone else is getting ultra rich. I think Enron tried that and it didnt work. If they are going to pursue this venture in this manner then the only way I can see to protect the stockholders (taspayers) interest and investment is to make all discoveries public domain rather than give one company or person patent rights. In this manner at least any drugs or therapies would be generic.
  17. It is not a matter of the companies making money. It is a matter of the tax payers footing the bill for the company then getting screwed by the company when a treatment/drug comes out. Its like this. People say "Yeah stem cell research is a good thing so lets pay for the research and they do. Then later a cancer cure comes from the research. Some person who voted for and paid taxes to do the research is later diagnosed with a cancer that can be cured using the results of the research. What is the person who voted for and paid for the research told? Yeah, you have cancer and we have the cure for it that you voted for and paid your taxes to develope now here is the deal,gGive us $250,000 and live or don't give us the money and die, we dont care which. If the research and development is fully paid for by the company who comes up with the treatment no problem they can charge what they want but, when the taxpayers pay for the research and development they (the taxpayers) should not be cheated.
  18. I think the site is great just as it. It is not all fishing reports and that is great because it allows people from all over the country or even world with all the various time zones a place to stay in contact. If it were regulated to fishing report in SE MO only there would be days with very few posts. Phil has given us a great site where a person can find the information they want. The only thing I can say to Ibt is if you like someone elses site better is C'YA around
  19. That Redear was caught in Taney??????????
  20. Truer words were never spoken Ron. Now before people start ranting about this being a capitalistic society.... Understand I am all for capitalisim. What I am against is the public footing the bill so some person or group of people can become wealthy. I havent noticed anybody knocking my door down offering to fund a business for me and I would be willing to bet Phils business isn't funded by taxpayers dollars. People like us have to work for what we get. Why should a select few be different? If they want to legally research stem cells and fund their own research that is fine and they should reap the rewards of any resulting knowledge. If on the other hand they are funded by the taxpayers then any resulting knowledge should by law be made public so that all can reap the rewards.
  21. Dang Beeson what did you do swallow an encyclopedia??? I dont know all the specifics about the two lines but what I do know is I use mono, flouro and braided lines. To me they are just more tools in my aresonol of fishing goodies. I rarely fish top water. So for me I can adjust the rate my lure/bait falls by using different lines. Abrasion resistance is a great thing when fishing around rocks or riprap.

  23. Al: Absolutley fantastic post. Very clear and concise. Your knowledge of the subject is apparent. It doesnt however change the fact that I am going to vote no. NOw I want you to understand it is not the research that I am voting against. I am voting against the way the ammendment is written. There are way to many loopholes and backdoors for it that are wide open to serious abuse of the law.
  24. Sounds about right. Like I said earlier it is about time people started thinking about the hows of this issue rather than the might be's.
