Cheets!!! Where ya been buddy. Glad to see you are still hanging around out in far left field. One thing I can agree with you on is the idea of a moratorium on big browns in the fall. However I think if there is a moratorium it should extend at least a mile below the dam and fishing for them in that area during the fall should be banned. D.O. is too low and stresses the fish during the fall the added stress of being caught is highly lethal to the fish. If I were a gambling man I would bet that during the fall C&R anglers kill far more Browns than the catch and keep anglers. Of course if being a C&R fisherman eases your concious.......... Been playing any music latley? In addition to guitar and mandolin I have recently taken up the banjo.

Yeah I suppose your are right. It would take more than a few small stockers to fill their mouths.

Is it just me or are most of the fish from Europe strange looking to the point of almost scarey?

Do you think it is really fair to leave P.eople E.ating T.asty A.nimals out of this? They have rights to ya know.

Why not create a 2nd "Restricted Trophy Zone" On Taney???
gonefishin replied to Fozzy's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I think I hate it that fishing has became so political. It has came to a point where a person cant enjoy a day on the water without thinking he/she is irritating some other angler. Personally I think we all pay taxes that supports the fishery. Hence the lake is ours not yours or mine. The individual angler should choose to keep fish, within legal limits, or practice strict catch and release and they should not be ridiculed or harassed for their choice. I think everyone would have a lot more pleasurable experience if we would quit bickering and worrying about how others are fishing and enjoy our own time on the water. The only way I would support more trophy area is if fishing is banned entirely for 1/2 mile below the dam. Then I would support extending the trophy area to Fall Creek. JMHO -
I have often wondered about doing this. I am interested and would like to know more about the where's, when's and how's.

I think C&R is a good thing but not completley necessary. I release far more fish than I keep but it doesn't bother me to keep a few eaters when I want to. I thin it is a good thing for some of the excess stockers, stunted, small and deformed fish. I don't think it would be really healthy for a fishery to be exclusevly catch and release for a long period of time.

It is working fine on my end.

Back Up and Running (A little)

Hey buddy. Had to go in and get a little tuneup huh...or did you just want to go visit the nurses Seriously I hope you get well soon and are back out on the river in no time. Bud -
Al: I have no problem with agreeing to disagree. Just for the record, I am not against capitalisim but I do believe that if public funds pay for the research then any and all resulting knowledge from the research should be patented by the public, not the researchers. You know I have a degenerative disease. I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis. One of the drugs that would help me costs almost $2000 for a one month supply. A one month supply is 80 MG. Calculate that out sometime. Gold isnt expensive and cocain is dirt cheap in comparison. No the insurance companies will not pay for it. So we have tons of money the puplic poured into the research, a drug was produced that would help people like me but very few of us can afford it. Doesnt make a lot of sence to put the money into the research if the end product is so expensive the people who need it cant afford it. The last time I looked up the meaning of capitalisim it didnt say anything about capitalisim being a practice of leaching off the sick. On the ethical side of this issue I am not worried about potential cloning and I am not really worried about when life begins. The problem I see is baby farms or whatever a person wants to call it. Women being paid to get pregnant and abort the fetus so it can be sold to the medical industry. Of course these women won't get paid much for a fetus in relation to what the medical industry will get for the cells and tissues. Think it wont happen? Heres an example, plasma. The average doner gets about $30 bucks for donating plasma. The resulting plasma is sold by the plasma center for about $1500 I have no idea what an accident victim pays for it but I am sure it is in the thousands. Yeah, I think we have to agree to disagree. Been fishin latley?

I dunno. I think it might have been ET or possibly Yoda. -
Wake up folks. This is very simply a money issue. The thing that makes stem cell really really promising is free tax bucks and the right to patent any resulting treatments, cures or drugs resulting from the research. That is what makes the researchers, drug companies and politicians drool and have erotic dreams. The other issues are just tools meant for no other purpose than to divert the attention of tax payers and voters. We get all nervous about and think we have to do something so we vote on it, of course is the intent of the wolves all along. Divide and conquer.
-
I dunno.... I have heard he really 'fills' out a skirt.
-
The main reason I see for catch and release is to preserve the population of a species. As they are man stocked, I dont worry much about the trout population in Taney or the trout parks as long as the creel limits are obeyed.
-
Here is a question. If Stem Cell Research is a legitimate pursuit why does it have to be voted on? I still believe it is nothing more than a money issue. Research centers want the tax payers to foot the bill for the research and then they, the researchers, will sell any resulting patents for millions, billions or trillions. In any other market the people footing the bill would be called shareholders and would share in any resulting income. I would certainly be more interested in this proposition if the tax payers in MO were made individual shareholders.
-
From an ethical standpoint I am against prop #2 But just as importantly I am against it because of the blank check issue. Actually it is a double dipping issue. There have been billions of tax dollars poured into research and when as a result of the research a product (such as a heart or cancer drug) finally reaches market the drug companies charge the public a fortune for it because "they have to regroup their research money." Huh? Am I missing something? I guarentee if prop 2 passes the tax payers will spend billions on the research and when a new drug or treatment comes about as a result of the research, the tax payers who are ill will get to spend billions again so the researchers can regroup their money. My vote on prop 2 will be no.

Hmmmm. I thought the above post would have gotten some feedback. I don't really want to change anything I was just trying to stir up a some comments. Kinda like the naught plus naught.... posted earlier.

Hmmmm. I only have one birthday, thats all my mom gave me. I reckon I will just have to choose a regular date. After careful concideration and long consultation with my fly rod........the conclusion is 12/3/06

I think it will hit 4,000,000 on my birthday. Uhhh that is my birthdate of this year as opposed to the year I was born. 11-23-06

Funny and speaking of credit cards not working..... I read in the news earlier that Jessica Simpson said she was having a hard time finding and keeping a boyfriend . She allowed it was becasue she intimidated them . Now I feel really sorry for her and all that bit I dont think she has it figured out yet. There are millions of men out there who would love to be in a relationship with her. The intimidation factor comes when they start getting the credit card bills to maintain being in a relationship with her.
