  1. I'm planning on camping mid April at the State park - unless it is raining HARD. So I need a couple of bug free motels at Bull Shoals as a back up. I found Aunt Grace- that type of inexpensive, roadside place with "all the charm of yesteryear". All help and suggestions gratefully accepted.
  2. Thanks, I was considering that.
  3. Have any other you tried "steelhead" rigs? You start with a "slinky" which is parachute cord stuffed with BB's. It slides over rocks, etc. better than a pure lead sinker, and then some sort of lure, yarn with a hook, etc. You cast out and "doorswing" the offering downstream. I've done the same thing with a spinner like Blue Fox. Cast so that the spinner with swing in front of a likely spot. Often I don't retrieve at all, the current spins the blade and keeps it at a mid-depth.
  4. Well doing some research, it looks like 65000 rainbows are stocks below Bull shoals dam. Initially I was going to do a "run and gun" Fish an hour near the dam, then hit a half dozen holes downstream and finally the tailwater at Norfork BUT now I'm thinking that maybe the best place is right below the dam, just stay there. I'm wondering if Table Rock Dam is the same, just stay below the dam.
  5. Hi, I'll be in the area in April, 3rd week. All I want to catch are trout (spin or fly) I've never been in the area and I was going to spend one day along the white river below the Bull Shoals Dam. It looks like there are various access points I can wade or fish from a bank. The next day I was going to move up to Branson and do the same thing along Taneycomo. I'm not certain whether Taneycomo is small enough to fish from shore. On the White River I already have some spots I thought I'd try, at the dam, White Hole, Wildcat Hole, The narrows, Cotter, Roundhouse Shoals, Rim Shoals. Then over to the tailwater at Norfolk. Are any of those spots okay? Only for boats? Etc. On Taneycomo I figured maybe right down from the dam is best, not sure. As I said, I'll be fishing from shore or wading. I prefer spin but I also do fly fishing and have caught a lot fly fishing. Probably catch and release, not sure on that. Thanks for any advice.
  6. Hi, I will be passing through the area and have only a half day to fish for trout below the dam. I'll be camping at Bull Shoals State Park the third week of April. Could some of you give me a quick guide. I'll be fishing from the bank if the water is deep. If the water is shallow I can wade. I'm bringing both a spinning rod and fly rod. I am only a so-so Fly fisherman, I've caught a lot of fish with a fly rod but in many instances (wind, etc. ) the spinning is best for me. In the past a technique I've used a lot is to cast a Blue Fox spinner with a silver blade and either a blue or chartreuse body and if the current is swift enough I just let the current broom swing the lure in an arc downstream- the current spinning the blade. If I time it correctly the spinner will swing through likely holding areas. In any event, if you were in my shoes, how would you fish this area under various conditions? High Water, low water. If a fly rod is best in low water, what flies, etc. Thanks.
