FYI on Feather Lights
mcp633 replied to strangercreek's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
There's a fella on ebay out of Colorado Springs that deals in them too. I've bought several items from him over the last few years. He's very professional and prompt. 59gremlin is his handle and gremlin fishing I believe is his ebay store. -

Me either. Ask my wife! -
My Dad went yesterday. Crappie are still a little slow according to him, and he knows his stuff.

Ooooooh, I forgot about Rolla, may have to detour. I guess I need to bring the green food coloring for my double fisting action. -
A couple of years back on opening weekend at Montauk, they were all over the place in surveillance vans and plain clothes. Some idiots in a camp site across the street from us got popped pretty good. I bet there were 12 of them there and not one escaped a summons for something. Three agents wrote tickets for over an hour! Oops! I was laughing. I was surprised that one of the agents was fishing by me for about 20 minutes in plain clothes. He was writing tickets later when I recognized him. When they finished, I asked one of them for information on the regulation change on the upper current (first year of ribbon designations), next thing I know, the agents are going through my stuff! I play by the rules, so I appreciated it.

Yeah, I'm still here. Park Rangers are definitely a different breed. Boy I could tell some stories about things I've seen! Then again, they have a different job, and a lot of ground to cover. Kind of like the MDC Agents. Too few and far between and do the best they can with what they've got.

10Pointer, Did you by chance notice if they had the shower houses open? Probably not with 75 trouts on! My wifey is going and she is not one to go more than 24 hours without a shower. Believe me, I can go without! Anyway, I'm pretty pumped about getting down there. It's definitely my favorite place in MO to go! See you guys there! -
Britts, Back when I worked in a smaller community without warning sirens, if there was a severe storm or tornada coming in the middle of the night, we would drive the residential areas doing the same thing until the supervisor would tell us to take shelter. Except we would use the PA on the car. I don't think it was probably very effective, but its all we had. Uh, hello, where am I supposed to go?!? Crown Vic doesn't offer much shelter!

Hey, I'll be there that weekend too. Loop four site 423. I'll be the one with the blue F150, the Coachmen PUP with teal canvas, and a beer in both hands . Stop on by and we'll discuss it. Reed's cabins website is a good resource. It's updated a couple of times a week. www.reedscabins.com. -
Awesome, perfect timing for the wifey's knot tying lessons. Thanks for the great post!

I was just recently in the market for a 8-8.5' five weight myself. Believe me, I spent many hours with many different sticks in hand over the last month or so. There are many in the price range for sure! I have to say, the rod I liked the best, and the one I bought is the White River CV2! Over the TFO and the Orvis models. A little faster than my St. Croix, but that's what I needed. What makes it even nicer is the fact that I bought it for $159.99 and six days later it went on sale on BPS' website for $115.00. Went to BPS in Columbia where I bought it and got the difference back! What a deal.

It's pretty stupid if you ask me. Standing shoulder to shoulder. I don't see how it would be enjoyable at all. Even on a normal weekend down there, there will be people lined up like that in the quarry hole an hour before the whistle! Myself, I'd rather sleep for the extra hour and wait 25 minutes after the whistle to even go. By then, most of the starving whistle fish are on stringers, and breakfast for the whistle fishermen is on the fire. I've actually stood there and watched massive tangles involving up to four anglers at the same time. Everyone ends up having to break off and re-tie. I've seen two people actually fight because they somehow they both got the same fish hooked in the mouth and both wanted the darn thing. It's not worth it to me. I look for relaxation when I go fishing, not fistfights and aggrivation!

I can't believe that anyone who has seen one of these magnificent birds with their own eyes could possibly want to do them harm. I hope they catch the idiot and he/she spends a lot of time making little rocks out of big rocks in the worst federal prison they can put them in!

I usually use an improved clinch knot on the dropper. Tippet from the bend of the hook on the top fly. I believe there's a post somewhere in tip and tricks on the forum about hopper dropper knots and differing techniques.

I have an extensive array of grills/smokers (4)adorning one of my decks. I too was a pure charcoal man and never imagined a day when I would own a gas grill. That was until I was working part time at Sears and got a great closeout winter deal on a Kenmore 4 burner model. I couldn't resist for some reason. My neighbor (read friend) about fell off of his deck when he saw it. He knew how anti-gas I was. I bbq at least 4-5 nights a week and take great pride in my work. I did find a cast iron box that will hold soaked wood chips and works fine to add the smoke flavor the foil packets as mentioned above work well too. It's nice for indirect heat and I even sprung for the electric spit thingy. I use it quite a bit, especially in the winter and for steaks (I can get that daddy HOT), but I must say that NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING, COOKS LIKE A WEBER KETTLE! I DON'T CARE THE PRICE. NOTHING COOKS LIKE A WEBER!

I don't know if it's a good idea or not, but my wife has expressed interest in learning how to fly fish. That being said, I don't want to invest a lot of $$$ in the deal because whatever I buy will probably end up in the garage with her golf clubs (that she wanted so badly). If anyone has a pair of womens waders, or a youth size because I noticed there's not a whole lot of people who make them for women, drop me a message. Thanks, Kyle

I didn't pull the trigger fast enough on a campsite and will have to wait until the weekend of the 16th . At least taking the wife along anyway. I can sleep in my car ! I'm definitely itching to go.

The Premier was my first rod and I still fish it quite a bit. 9' five weight in an outfit from Everhart's. The reel was crappy, so I pitched it quickly, but I like the rod. I believe from looking at the Cabelas 2007 Fly Fishing catalog they've been replaced by a new line. Can't recall the name, but similar in price to the Premier.

I had one of the Eagle Claws. I think it was 6.5 feet and I had 4wt line on it. I liked catching blue gill on it, but I didn't care for the action. Really to slow for me.

Got it, and I hit you back with one.

Speaking from the law enforcement prespective, the rules on issuing an amber alert are very strict. It's not an easy thing to get accomplished for a reason. Two examples comes to mind. Here in central Missouri last summer or spring there were two amber alerts issued that didn't need to be. One was an idiot making a false report about an abduction (he's in the hoosegow). The other was a guy picking up his kids from his mother-in-law for a custody hearing in Texas. Imagine his suprise when he was picked up in Texas for a child abduction in Missouri. It is a good system, but it uses a vast amount of resources. It's not unusual for the St. Louis media to blame law enforcement first and get the facts later. With that said, I know we'll all be praying for this child's safe return. I know the boots on the ground care as much as anyone. I'm sure the local, state, and federal authorities are doing a bang up job behind the scene. I get at least ten updates in leads a day from the state MIAC (MO Intelligence Analysis Center)on this case everyday. Steve, HUGE 10-4 on that!!!!!!!

I've got a pair of the Cabelas dry plus breatheables and love them. They are the $100.00 GII model. Three seasons of regular use and no problems. You're welcome Andy! And congrats on the new carpet crawler! I'm sure you'll get many days of enjoyment out of both!
-
You bet. I go on a three dayer in the spring and fall with a bunch of guys. Always a blast. When I figure out the dates, I will let you know. You're welcome to come for the whole weekend, or just for a day.
-
I'd have to say "ditto" to the Montauk suggestion. If you're going that way, Montauk is down right gorgeous this time of the year. Upper Current is always a blast. I've fished both quite a bit, and can quite honestly say, I would drive the extra hour or so from Jefferson City to fish Montauk anytime over Meramec.

Fine then! I think I'll keep it!
