I havent been fishing, other than Montauk, this year.. Normally walleye around St. Louis means Winfield, or Chain of Rocks. Never fished the Meramac around here.. You say it is low, and I look at the Missouri and it is still really high..
That would be the fish that the guy with the fly rod broke off.. His orange egg was still in his mouth. I will check out the MDC site for his fish, thanks!.. Yeah there were lots of 3-4lbers this year.. not sure why?? Seems the hatchery isn't producing like it did in 2008..
We hit the river on Saturday... caught a few on dries and enjoyed some nice weather..
Opening day was eventful.. I landed a 20" rainbow for my third fish and after a quick pic, returned it..
Later that day my dad landed an 8lb 14oz monster... That thing looked more like a salmon..
I made a trip out there Saturday. I had never been out there for "trout" season.. Lots of ICE.. limited spots to fish and LOTS of people.. 31 has some of the lake open and other slots that people created.. Saw a few fish caught.. Power bait and meal worms.. We spent about 15 minutes there and then decided to drive around the area rather than mess with fishing.
I am heading down to Manasota Key Florida in about 2.5 weeks.. We are staying in a condo on the beach for a week and I was wanting to know if anyone has fished this part of Florida. With the colder weather, there may not be any opportunity to fish.
How did you get to the warm water discharge at Portage? It is usually good this time of year for whites and some largemouths, but it has been a while since I fished a discharge.
Where did you go on the IL side? Not familiar with the other side being fishable..
I plan to take the kayak out to dresser this spring.. I would imagine the warm water discharge would be good fishing as soon as the ice clears.
Yeah, that is a buff from the LOZ this past summer.. Caught it on a clouser on the 2wt.. took forever to land..
Foot access.. I am not familiar with many warm water by foot around here.. Alton dam, Chain of Rocks.. Check the fishing piers at Columbia Bottoms.. They catch cats from there and the wing dams that touch the land around it.. Also, check Dresser Island and the coal plant has a warm water discharge.. It is a long walk though.. Not sure if you can even get to the open water by foot.
Those look great for the big river.. The blues should be at Alton now.. Just needs to warm up enough to tolerate it.. Let me know how you do.. I may be over that way and by Chain of Rocks this weekend.
Our crew is coming down the 15th for our annual fall trip.. Look forward to some night fishing Thursday and Friday.. I am in need of new waders as my orvis boot foots have many "pin holes" and are leaking at the crotch seams.. So it is time for a new pair. Where would the best place be to try on and purchase a good pair of Simms, or other waders and boots?
I am of the thought that these triploids are a different species than the "rainbow trout"... Thus this record fish should be in a classification of it's own.
Don't get me wrong, the catch is incredible. These brothers put in hard work, and have a plan to catch these monster trout.. They definetly deserve a world record for the fish...
The water is deep, and turbullent. I wouldn't try it there.. You can go upstream where the old dam used to be and go out and up from there but that is still dangerous.. Look up Dresser Island.
