  1. Try a Elk Hair Caddis {Olive or Tan}, PMD's,or Griffiths Gnat when they are rising like that, you will also have good luck with it in the riffles. Crackleback also works well as a dry or stripping the CB under the surface. Crackleback also works well as a dry with a dropper {Pheasant Tail,Copper Johns} under it get, good action on both flies.Early mornings there is usually a hatch going on.
  2. Another way to stop the shot from slidding down the tippet is to wrap the tippet through the slot of the shot twice. It will stay in place, you don't have to pinch it tight,it will not mark the tippet.
  3. I guess I'am behind as usual, where are the new places in the state they are stocking trout?
  4. I was fishing at Taney for three days the 1st week of May and then on July 11 & 12th, it looked to me they are no further along on completion than in May. I was really surprised figuring they would be done on arrival. Maybe funding was cut off?
  5. A few years ago I went down to the dam early morning, foggy and the water was higher than the few times I had ever fished there. Water was not coming up and I made my way out to rebar hole and the rebar was above water. Started fishing for about 1 hr and the fishing was hot. Needless to say I was not paying attention to anything except the fish. After a while it felt like the current's speed had increased, then I noticed something real bad was taking place, the rebar was starting to disappear! Needless to say I started to move towards the north shore working towards the stairs near outlet # 3 at a high rate of speed. By the time I was in what is normally the shallow area when the water is off the pressure from the current became very strong.I made a stupid mistake, moving to fast and to long of steps.I was knocked to my knees, facing up stream, water up to my chest. Everytime I would try to get up I would get knocked back down, total of 3 times before I was able to get up and FINALLY out of the water & plenty wet. No horn ever went off while I was there. Man talk about scared, everytime I go there I remember this, and when the horn goes off you better get out of my way.Learned two valuable lessons. 1.Call when I get there to see if any water is on. 2.Bought a better wading belt and now wear it a lot tighter. I always have wondered why there was no horn? Was it because water was already running and all they did was increase the flow?
  6. Sam what part of the upper Current were you fishing? I started at Tan Vat and worked down stream fishing was good numerous small browns and one nice one and the rainbows were nice, have been since the flash flood. Could be wrong but I think most of them might have come out of the park with the high water. I saw a small pickup at Tan Vat when I got there around 830am and it was still there when I left at around 1230pm. Went to Tanney from there and it poured all the way.
  7. I was fishing on the north bank above MDC boat ramp today when they turned on the water. Two fishermen came up river at a good clip on Jet Ski's, figured it might be Phil & Bill testing out a new way to fish when the water is on. 1st jet ski's I have seen that far up stream. I wonder what is next?
  8. Shawncat is correct about rubber legs now being considered legal under the 2005 definition of a "fly".Rubber legs are on numerous flies that have been consider legal in other states for years, Madam x,hoppers, crickets to name a few. What is interesting these flies while being legal in zone 1 & 2 are not legal to use in zone 3 {Bennett]. What is the diffence unless they want to keep the different types of fishermen apart.
  9. I agree Phil! Whatever that is worth. I worked on the railroad and all signage posted on the property dealing with unauthorized people was in English/Spanish.
  10. Go to Ozarkanglers.com on left side of page towards bottom click on "Useful Links" when that next page comes up go to bottom center and you will find "Flyfishing Missouri & Arkansas" click on site go to Fishing Report and find Taneycomo, click on it and scroll down and you will see a picture of a big brown with what looks like white around the black spots.
  11. The photograph that Phil posted a couple of days ago demonstrates that these violations are not confined to non-english speaking people. It reminds me of my extremely younger days when there were few limits on fish and numbers determined how good of a fisherman you were. Times have changed, people need to realize there is more to the sport than numbers. I'm sure there are people in this country dependent on wildlife for a large part of their food supply. This is not to defend their actions but I think a small group of people fit in this category. All we can do is try and educate people that these resourses can no longer be taken for granted.
  12. At the tone please Press #1 for Spanish or #2 for English.
  13. Thanks for the help Wayne!
  14. I know there is a state park located at Table Rock just south of the dam, but I have never been in the camp area. I plan on a 2/3 day trip to Taney this month during the week days and I camp with a tent. Do they have shower facilites at this camping area? Thanks!
  15. There is a fly shop in St. Louis that has what you are looking for Item # 668 "Shock - Gum sections Call toll free number 800-659-1707. They do work!
  16. Better hide the bow & arrows!!!!!
  17. I agree with troutchaser! I have used many brands of flyline and the Wulff Triangle has become the line of choice, especially with the J3 coating. I have used this line for app. 3 months and when I clean the line there is no foreign material on the line, and this has been the case at least 3 times after fishing in water with a lot of junk on the surface. It does work as advertised!!
  18. Fished the Current today and what a day it was, lots of small browns {no matter} and one that was around 16" with color like I have never seen before, just a great day was had by all. Did catch nice size Bows, your comment Sam about them coming from the park from the flood is the same that my buddy and I discussed. One SAD note for the day was to see a brown about 5 lbs + floating belly up down the river, really was a sad note to the day!
  19. I agree with Greg and I to look forward to the post on this site. I check it in the morning and before I go to bed. I also agree with Michael, it would be nice to have a get together and have a chance to visit with others from this site. You would not believe what I have learned from everyone by reading these post. Thanks to all that participate!
  20. Maybe since I live out of state they figured what the heck, lets answer the poor fisherman from IL.
  21. Phil & jOrOb: Thanks for the reply to my question, appreciate the help. One of the many positives of this site is the positive responses you receive on questions you may have on whatever subject.
  22. Phil: I looked at your fly demo on tying the Trout Crack and the UTC V -rib looks to be something other than clear, but in the recipe it only shows the Antron to be colored {sand}I'm I missing something? Thanks for the help.
  23. Yes! It is a great place to catch Cuts,Bows,Browns & brooks what else could you ask for? Probably one of, if not, the best trout fishing in the state of Ark. Noticed they have been running a little more water than they have been in other tail waters in the White River system. Enjoy!
  24. You are good loo10! After watching the Cards I needed a good laugh before bed. Thanks!
  25. I have heard of a fly called the "Crack Trout" has anyone else heard of this fly? If so what is the recipe?
