I have floated and camped the James river for 20+ years and never had a problem finding a spot to camp, and never had a problem with a land owner.

It will probably be within a couple feet of normal, guessing there. But I would call it defintely floatable.

There is some awesome spots to fish down in that area, but to me it seems the river changes about 1/3 into that float and becomes wider and a little more filled in with lots of areas which aren't very deep. With that said, it has 2 of my favorite fishing holes in it. There are lots and lots of catfish in that stretch and usually a good population of white bass if you can find the correct pools to throw a minnow into. Have fun.

I defintely agre with this. It's already a huge deal overseas and I've often thought about doing it to my vehicles because I park in remote areas very often and am always concerned about this type of stuff happening. At least all you got was a broken mirror and they didn't break windows or steal. I'm sure one of them was acting cool and showing off. And the other one was probably thinking my buddy is an idiot. Hopefully the fishing spot was a good one and you at least caught a few fish.

With all the flooding of recent, I was looking at the river levels in Oklahoma on the Govt Site. I saw that the level on the Arkansas River at Tulsa is low at 2.18 feet right now with all the levels around it extremely up. My question is: Is the river level low upstream or downstream of the dam at Tulsa? I think it's upstream to the next dam, but I'm not entirely sure about it.

Why a West bank?

Yeah I was more thinking above Tulsa where it is not affected by the lake discharges as much. The flow up there is a lot lower than the Fort Smith area.

Ya judging the satellite photos it is not channelized.

Me and my boy are wanting to float the Arkansas River. We know it's a sandy fairly slow moving river. I am trying to find out as much info as I can on it before we go. Is there anyboy around the Tulsa area who does vehicle shuttling? Any other info or advise would be helpful if you guys know any.

Thanks for the info. It's hard to get any info on Bull Shoals. Either people don't fish there or they're secretive on giving info out. At least you were in the walleye.

I have never seen so many fish in a river as the Elk River. I only floated it once, but it was like floating in a zoo. And real nice clean water also. I imagine this river is what the James river where I live used to be before pollution.

Me and the boys have been catching them the last couple days. I love gar fishing and usually use live minnows in popular surfacing areas for them. They are not biting real good right now, but they still gotta eat, so some will bite. I lost a biggun yesterday. It popped off right in front of me.

Wow, no replies. I'd split the trip between Galena for whites and Forsyth for walleye or whites. Crappie could be at either place also with some searching.

I would try fishing on the downstream side of the shoals. Possibly on the bluff side up against that mud bank midway thru the corner. Or the bluff side at the end of the corner around the big rock and tree that's in the water. And get better bait than cutup sucker.

I don't know about yours because I lack the knowledge to give a reliable statement,but. My dad had some old fly rods made of bamboo that were made in Japan that he sold for hundreds of dollars a few years ago. They were in the box like yours, but I don't remember what brands, which can be a big difference I'm sure.

I'd go to Taylor Shoals if you're looking for a reliable bite. Forsyth area can be undependable sometimes, but I like that area better.

I have seen maybe a half dozen true cottonmouths in my life, every one except 1 were calm and never moved. The other one I saw deliberaly chased me. But that was because I was fooling with it and teasing it, lol. Scared me good though. Every one I've ever seen was over in the Flat Creek area which is close to Crane Creek.

Every fish I've caught in the last week has been spawned out. But I've defintely had no problems catching them. I just hate cleaning so many so I have started throwing back the bigger ones.

It gets pretty crowded up at Taylor Shoals also. The opposite bank from the gravel bar is the best, up against the bluff side of the river. But it's difficult to get over there without a kayak.

I was down there last summer and there was a huge gravel bar right in front of the ramp. I don't think any motored boat could have been put in and out there. Maybe the flooding has changed it. I'm talking about the Galena ramp. I was at Blunks last night and the area was about as packed as it gets.

I heard some guys talking last night about catching some walleye in the morning that day. I think I heard them say 3 walleye. I have personally caught walleye from Blunks all the way up to the mouth of Finley. But not ever enough to target them. Gar are everywhere.

Go to Taylor Shoals. If you can't catch a fish up there right now, you can't catch a fish..... Period. I was down there tonight and just hammered the crap out of em. I got back on my crappie spot I went to last time and brought home 11 keepers. Threw back many that I'm sure were keepers but I forgot a measuring stick and threw back anything I felt was under 11 inches. Also caught 7 white bass, but wasn't even trying for them. All in about 1 1/2 hours before dark. I'm sure after dark would be great also, but it is still a little dingy possibly. I'd say you could at least catch a few after dark for sure.
