  10. I was living here in Springfield and had attended his concert at Hammons Student Center three weeks before.
  11. Slider, yes we were there when the shad would explode up and down the lake. Something I have never seen before. I don't know what triggers it. We were up there again last nite and got into the hybrids about 11:00 P.M. Came home with a limit of hybrids over 18 inches and the rest of whites to fill limits of whites and hybrids. Had about 8 keeper crappie and 2 nice cats. Need to take a day off. Its my grandson's birthday. We were counting up and including all the guys, we had 11 white limits this week. Numerous crappie and cats.

We were out of Bucksaw Marina, the current was to strong out in the main part of the lake, we caught our fish in the cover in trees with 30 -35 feet of water. The actual fish are about ten to fifteen foot of water. Wen back yesterday and had another good day!! Sorry - guess I should read my postings more careful before I post. cover should be coves and wen should be went. Sorry!!

    Crappie

We were up there last Sunday. Two boats and four people. We were dipping minnows. The crappie were in about four to ten foot of water around pole timber and cedars. The trees had to be in about thirty to forty foot of water. We must have caught 100 shorts to get our 46 keepers of 10 inches. The length limit is 9 inches, but a 9 incher is hardly worth cleaning.
  14. Oh, My!! What a catch!! I enjoy my two daughters, but the six grandchildren they have provided me and the wife has truly been a blessing. Enjoy and spoil her every chance you get!!!

    Fried Fish

For all you who might be gluten intollerant, try crutching up Rice Chex and dip your filets in it and fry. If you are alergic to corn and flour products as I am they make it as the only alternative.
  16. Got a call from the place where I store my travel trailer and they said they have closed most of the campsites at Bucksaw campground till Monday or later.
  17. RUSTY, Thanks for the link. My wife was born and raised in Miami and she still has relatives there. They say it is as bad as the 1951 flood.
  18. Tried this recipe this weekend and the trick with the foil (got from this website) worked great INGREDIENTS: 2 cups Bisquick 1 1/3 cups milk 1 egg 2 tablespoons vegetable oil cinnamon, to taste 2 large cans of peaches (29 oz.) PREPARATION: Line your Dutch oven with heavy duty aluminum foil for easy clean-up. Place on bed of coals to preheat for 10-15 minutes. Mix all ingredients except for peaches. Take Dutch oven off of coals and pour in peaches (draining if necessary) Cobbler Recipe: Pour batter over top of peaches. Add cinnamon on top, if desired. Put lid on Dutch oven and place back on coals. When using charcoal, place about 8 pieces on bottom and 13-15 on top. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown on top. Remove from coals and crack lid to allow it to cool. Try it. The grandkids ate it up with kool whip.
  19. Bill, Give'm hell. I totally agree. It's not about the money all the time. I appreciate what you have done on this forum and certainly appreciate it. Have been fishing these waters since I was a child of ten years old. I have seen lots of changes over time and one of the changes is everything has to have a price. I'm for making a living and a profit, but sharing information to bring some happiness or good times to our fellow man is a good thing. Again thanks!!

    Camp Cobbler

CAMP COBBLER 12-inch Dutch Oven (with convex lid) 2 cans of pie filling (this time I used cherry) 1.5 packages of dry cake mix (this time I used chocolate) 1.5 sticks of butter Preheat the Dutch oven (lid and base) over the campfire. Pull the base off and put a half stick of butter in the bottom. Dump in the two cans of pie filling. Pour the dry cake mix on top of the pie filling. Cut up one stick of butter and place the pats on the top of the dry cake mix. Put the lid on the Dutch oven. Pull some coals out of the fire and place the Dutch oven on top of them. Place some hot coals on the lid. Cook for 35-45 minutes or so. Enjoy!!
  21. Three of us fished there from 5:30 to 10:30 P.M.. Caught alot of small crappie with a keeper mixed in every 5 fish caught. The whites moved in after dark and had a lot of fun til we left to come back to Springfield.
  22. Hey Pat, Roy, Greve and myself have been going to Warsaw and doing very well. Give me a call. Would like to have you go along with us. Got home last nite about 1:00 a.m. with three limits of crappie, some white and three good hybrids. The crappie bite last until dark, the the whites and hybrids move in aroung 10:00 p.m. Coach Hagan
  23. Jenny, I can attest to your report. Bill and myself had outstanding stringers of crappie the last two days. The size ranged from ten inches to fourteen inches. The trick is to know how to let your line swing with the current when they are running at different stages. Great fun!!
  24. Could be from a "prop" injury!
  25. Leonard, Sorry I missed the cleanup. As a child I grew up learning how to fish on Hickory Creek back in the early 60's. Richard Brewer, who owns the monument company in Neosho is a dear friend of mine and we spent many hours on the creek. Let me know and I will see if Richard will join me. It would be great to remember those days with great memories. Back then the trout fishing was pretty good in the spring when they released them for trout opening day!!
