Blue Cats are not typical in the White River drainage, but Flatheads and Channel are. Here is where you will find Blue cat: http://www.mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/mofish/mofish.cgi?id=32 It does apperar one was collected in Taney county from the map, Taneycomo or Bull Shoals? Wonder where he came from?

Believe it or not the automatic transmission in the 4Runner is the same automatic in the Jeep Cherokee (not the Grand) with the straight 6, the AW-4. I know cause I have one. It is just a screen, which I have never changed, but do drain and refill every 30,000 miles. You will get about 2.5 quarts out, use Dexcon Mercon fluid only. Maybe do it once, wait a week, and do it again if the fuid is pretty dirty.

A Few Questions About Trout Fishing
mhall02 replied to OzarkFishman's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
$50 question on gear, I would get an ultra-light small Shimano spinning reel like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...0001000_100-1-2 And a 5'6" or 6' ultra light spinning rod, fiberglass like this http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...0002000_100-2-2 Spool up with some 2 lb test Trilene XT or Sensation, get some 1/32 oz maroubou or crappie jigs (white, black and yellow, olive, yellow), some single hook 1/16 oz Rooster Tail spinners (black with silver spinner, olive with gold spinner) and go to town. This is legal in the trophy area at Taney, and anywhere in the trout parks (except Zone 3 at Benett, bait only). As far as waders, I've had these for 5-6 years and the price is right: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...013000_100-13-0 Don't forget the wading shoes. I only reference Bass Pro because they have a nice website, other similar brands/setups should be fine, but that is basically my budget trout spinning gear setup. Upper Taney is better for wading, but water generation can mess this up. Do need the license and trout stamp, they expire end of Feb, not 12 months from purchase. Might want to try Roaring River catch and release on the weekends to get some experience. -
Used to fish upstream of there a few miles. A few nice holes that held channel cat, smallmouth, and goggle eye. Funny thing, my Dad even caught a rainbow trout there one spring, apparently an escapee from a private hatchery at the headwater (in Cassville). Don't know if the hatchery is still there, but it was a fun place to fish as a kid. I think the water is too warm during the summer for trout.

Unfortunately there is no public land on this stretch of Spring. My Dad and I knew the landowners downstream from the 60 bridge, and had permission to fish that stretch. I also knew another spot but cannot remember the names of the roads. Be sure to get permission where you go. FYI the last time I fished it was in December of '91, so who knows what things are like there now. That is my fondest memory, caught a hooked jaw male in full spawing color, 3-4 pounds, and that fish jumped two or three times before I got him in. WOW, wish I had a camera.

No muskie in Crane, but there are pickerel, kinda like a mini muskie. Check out the link below: http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/mofwis...aspx?id=0100123 They don't get much bigger than 12-18 inches. The other fish was probabally a creek chub or one of the other chubs. http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/mofwis...aspx?id=0100029 Sounds like you had a good time!!

Interesting, Monette AR, never heard of it but with all the talk of SW MO streams, I thought he was talking Monett MO.

Do I see a Monett (no e on the end) theme here? Went to school at Monett (grew up closer to Friestatt), caugt my first trout at RR on an 8 wt Marlin combo special and have advanced from there. Capps, Flat, Shoal and other creeks in the area were my old stomping grounds in the late 80s as a teen with a driver's license and a Ford truck. Ahh the memories.. Welcome! Welcome!!

Urban Winter Trout - Walker Lake

Will the 1-800-392-1111 number work for reporting these guys? Only spoke with one violator and he let the fish go, apparently was in ignorance? Have seen some others sneaking around that appeared to know what they were doing, but left before I could talk to them. Maybe try to get a vehicle description and license plate number? Wish I had a digital camera to take fishing (too afraid of dunking my home one).

Maybe it rolled back to zero after 9,999,999?
-
I think they will be stocking this weekend or next week, anyone going? Thought about checking out Lake 28 Sunday afternoon. What are the odds there will be fish?

Woah, guess I was wrong!!

Our Irish Setter was shot when I was a kid. The neighbor said he was chasing his horse and was authorized by Dad to shoot it if it did it again. Dog disappeared for a few days, called the neighbor, and yep, he said he shot it. Wish he would have at least let us know. Anyway, second time the dog was shot, hit with shotgun pellets by another neighbor in front of my eyes, neighbor said he was chasing chickens so what can you say? Not a smart dog and was not disciplined by us. No hard feelings on my part, but I can see where some folks would be upset, dogs are like their kids for some. I'll guarantee you not all kids are kept out of trouble or taught right from wrong, they just aren't shot. Dont' get me wrong, I certainally would not equate an animal to a human, but this topic may open up an interesing can of worms.

Just put it in there!! Thanks, could have used it a few times at Busch Wildlife in the past with guys bait fishing at catch and release lakes...in December and adults fishing in kids lake. That sort of stupid stuff.

Blisters could be from this http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/wat/wq/BCguidelin...tgptextonly.htm http://www.nww.usace.army.mil/lsr/reports/...almontoc.htm#3d Not a good sign for this fishery at all!!

Good question, there is the Spring River that goes into Arkansas, and the Spring River that goes into Oklahoma. Each have their own forum but it can be confusing. One here for the 1st abovementioned: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showforum=60 Second one here for the 2nd: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showforum=87

I'm not sure where exactly where you guys are but I didn't see any trout pics, any of you guys ever catch any? I've caught and seen some caught around Pioneer years back, and of course further down where Capps dumps in.

Has Anyone Every Fished At Suson Park Near Stl?
mhall02 replied to catfisher's topic in Meramec River
I used worms for the catfish and carp, only fished Lake 2, Lake 1 reminds me of a giant concrete birdbath. Bullhead were caught in the middle of the day, only caught them once, maybe a fluke? -

Caught trout in the winter, one big carp and some bullhead and small channel cat over the years. Nothing to write home about for me. -
Yep, F & W, graduated from MU in '93 and we shocked that Ashland lake as well as I did South Farm lake once with Mike, a few nice bass in there back in the early '90s. Did work study under 2 grad students on Grand Pass Wildlife area, worked for the Department of Conservation on an hourly basis for about a year after graduation under Pflieger and Kruse, then a 5 month EPA sponsered project at MU, shocked 48 streams and 2 lakes (one was the Meramec right above the spring) and that was it. Realized that if I ever wanted to work/stay in Missouri, I had best find a different occupation (unless I wanted to work for minimum wage with 0 benefits). I've been an environmental consultant with a small firm in St. Peters for over 12 years now, help companies with EPA/OSHA compliance. Seen others I went to school with doing the same thing. My daughter we adopted from Guatemala has a better chance than I ever had at getting a job with MDC if you know what I mean. Too bad, nice people to work with, maybe things have changed?

Good point, my wife and I were fishing with worms above the spring for goggle eye and a park employee warned us it was a 'trout' area, no bait allowed. I stated the water was too warm to support trout (in the summer above the spring) and I've even shocked it with the University (MU) years ago, no trout (lots of smallmouth though). E-mailed Mike Kruse about this issue and he said they made the Hwy. 8 bridge the upper end of the trout area, since the bridge is a easily identified land mark and during the winter trout may potentially make their way this far up. Glad I didn't get a ticket, here is the link (page 3) that talks about the 'red ribbon' trout regs: http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Documents/2925.pdf

Welcome!! I'm out in a burb to the west of you, closer to Busch Wildlife. There are at least trout here in the winter, closer drive than the Roaring River or Capps, but for a SWMO boy, it ain't home. Jobs are more available and pay better, but where are those clear, cool streams of my Ozarks home? 3-4 hours away!!

That is pretty much my understanding on the copperhead, unless you have some sort of reaction they are not really much of a problem. Kind of like a bee sting, it depends on how you react to the venom. My grandpa was bit on the hand years ago, same story they treated the bite wound, not the venom itself. I have only seen about 3-4 copperheads in my life, 1 for sure cottenmouth, no rattlers, and 100s of hamless water snakes/terresterial snakes. Rattlesnake and cottenmouth, different story, bigger snake!!
