  1. A wonderful read! I think we all have moments like that...and hope our children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews do, too!
  2. OK, in the interest of keeping my hubby from being punched in the nose...I'm pretty sure he isn't causing the bad karma, nor pushing people into the water! He's usually the one IN the water! I think what we have here is a recommendation to fish in sweats, not jeans! Also, watch out for loose rocks, slippery rocks, loose shoes, loose shoestrings, and anyone who will share your story publicly!
  3. I think it would be fun to go mushroom hunting, but I do NOT like to eat them! After this bout of cold, will there be more mushrooms soon? A lot of old remedies and old wive's tales hold some truth...it's just a matter of finding that truth without suffering the consequences with it! Personally, I look for rings around the moon to predict precipitation, and how fat and wooly the caterpillars are, and how big squirrel tails get to predict bad winters, and, yes, I do sometimes schedule hair cuts in the waxing or waning moon to help it grow or keep it short. Does it work? Of course! How well? Ummmmmmm....
  4. My grandmother used to fish, but not fly fish. We have some of her old rods, reels, and tackle. Some of it was unusable, but some of it has come in handy! She had a wonderful Little Cleo, silver and blue, that never failed...until I caught a huge tree with it! DUH!!!!! We all love to use her old Eagle Claw rod. It brings back memories for me, connects my son to her, and makes John feel as if he knew her, too. Fishing sure is fun!
  5. Let's see...a woman who can operate heavy machinery and fly fish???? Wow, I'll bet she's popular with the guys! Or maybe she intimidates them, because they keep falling in the water...
  6. "The Terry Beeson Story" starring Tom Hanks...or maybe Billy Bob Thornton! Lost on a river, with his friend Spalding...or Wilson...or just a bobber! Coming soon to a drive in (with spare tires) near you!
  7. Happy birthday to those fortunate enough to be born on this day! At least you will never here "OH, you weren't born on April Fool's Day, you just are on!" We know you aren't! Enjoy the nice weather and catch some fish!
  8. I have the BPS 2 room tent. It has held up well, and is VERY easy to put up. I got it on sale, at the Camping Classic (or whatever they call it) for under $100, I think, 2 years ago. I don't use it as often as I would like to, but it is always ready! I have gotten the Ozark Trail tents from Wal-Mart, but they really don't hold up for more than a year, even with water proofing and just being careful.
  9. I could see that happening...and you telling the last part only!
  10. You big baby! Nearly all snake related fatalities in Missouri have all come from some moron (usually a young male) saying "I bet I can catch him!" or something along those lines. Snakes are very useful, and help keep the rodent population under control! What we need are more anacondas, to keep the human pests under control. Seriously...never approach any wild animal...you never know, you might look more like it's dinner than you think! Or worse, it's mate!
  11. Terry-she was born in Arkansas, her and my mother still have the same last name, and they are both married! That family tree don't branch! You might be a redneck if you go to family reunions as a pick up site! Beats the bars...
  12. I like it! And cheap is good...
  13. What do they call that??? A bow with a sword???
  14. Nice!
  15. It is sad. Have you noticed that people are more likely to help species that are pretty, tasty, or funny? Few people want to help bugs or snakes, but fish, bears, and dodo birds get a lot of publicity! OK, maybe not dodos, but you get the idea.
  16. Nice pictures! Thank you!
  17. Never been for spoonbill, best cat story is one that got away... I did hear a good one at school the other day, though. Some of the boys had gone snagging, and caught some nice ones. The smallest one was about 55 lbs. Unfortunately, you know junior high boys...another boy who is NOT into fishing asked what kind they were when they were showing the pictures. So, being junior high boys, they told him they were bluegill!
  18. I got a little freaked out last night when I heard that warning. That was a first for me! However, since the Mr. is from Southern California, where things are on fire most of the time, he said it's no big deal, just some smoke! All I could think of was all those signs in OK, "Don't drive into the smoke!" I don't think we should punish the state of AR...after all, isn't living there punishment enough????? Just kidding...my sister was born there, and if not for that, how else could she be married to our brother?
  19. Working on 'em...seems the thing to do on a Saturday night, anyway!
  20. Thank you for sharing, Rabbi. That is much more eloquent than "A day spent fishing is better than a day at work." The Springfield paper had a section today on all the benefits of fishing, for children and adults. It includes having things in common with others you normally might not, being able to talk about things while you are busy with your common interest, and being able to spend time alone without being lonely. That's what fishing is about...the experience, not just the fish!
  21. Welcome aboard! If you learned something, then I guess this forum is doing it's job! If you're also amused, I guess we're are having fun!
  22. Dano's are already on the way????? Does this mean I need to think about starting mine?
  23. I was just telling John about going on the pirate cruise this weekend, and then saw this post! We stayed at the Sammy Lane a few times, and yes, my sister and I went swimming in that pool! (It was straight from Taney, just run through some type of cleaning system and add chlorine, and it was COLD!!!!!!!!) I miss the days when Branson was more local than it is now! Not the Wayne Newton days...you know, when you ran into the "Mabe boys" as my grandparents called them (gone now, family is still carrying on great, from what I hear!) and every theater was family oriented! It's still a great place, but I miss being able to head down there with less than $50 and take the family to see a show! (I know, inflation, rising costs of blahblahblah... )
  24. Hi, neighbor!
