Shirt Color When Trout Fishing
taxidermist replied to Justin Spencer's topic in General Angling Discussion
One a serious note, I wear my lucky shirt!!! No really it is amazing what a fish can see, even in 12 inches of water you can toss a bug in and fihs will come from 20 feet away. But I vote gray and having looked from the water side, light gray faded out fast underwater. -
Small white Road Runners can tear them up!!! I have fished CC a lot inthe winter. and if we have heavy fall rain, it can be a rainbow trout heaven.

It will take a lot of rain to raise the creek. The last threemiles above Yelleville is a dragging bitch I mean a bitch and that is putting it mildly. My buddy and I fished from Kellys slab to Yellville Friday and we did catch some fish, but if you are not a profootballine man forget about it cause the rocks are slicker than greased goose poop, and those that are not under are sticking up way to high to carry a boat of any size over. There is about four really nice holes to fish, but the creek is to shallow to run even a 4hp 2 stroke motor on except for the deep holes and thats where you want to fish. Water temp was 93F. You will be dragging a lot right now!!! I mean a lot!!!!

We caught a few to the orange fish a couple years ago. but I have only seen one in the past year. Those paliminos bite pretty readily, when you find them. There is a larger one that hangs near the ramp at rim shoals. if the jerks would quit tossing him power bait on hooks. Last time I saw him he had a pretty good hook going on the jaw.

Belize Govt Shuts Down "cattle" Hunt
taxidermist replied to Tim Smith's topic in Conservation Issues
Ok, I have to jump in here. Water Buffalo are not typical domestic cattle. while yes if you start with them at birth you can train them to pull a plow or cart. The wild ones are as dangerous as Cape Buffalo and will kill you if you encroach into their territory. They are not easy to kill as the way the ribs lay and the thickness of the hide is much like armor. While not my choice of animals to hunt, I certainly would not turn my back on one. In recent years some of the fighting bull breeds have been released near the border of America and Mexico and they can be far more dangerous than Cape Buffalo as these have no fear of men. I do know of a few people that have shot several of each. I have no probelem killign an animal if I am going to eat it. God put them here for man to use and I feel really good right now as I just ate a home grown farm raise burger that beats most steaks for flavor! Water Buffalo is lean and pretty tasty, not beef but still good. -
Back down in the batcave I do have some novacaine stored for emergencies. We could all gather at Lillies and have a party and remove that sucker for ya! I have scalpels and am pretty darn good with stitches!!!!! Even the plastic surgeon said I had the best stitches he has ever seen. All in favor of having some hot weather fun and the sign is in the feet if you are superstitious!

The heat has me beat, not as young as I use to be and I dont think I will be going out until it cools down. Might do an evening but at this point I am doubting it kinda like the guy in NYC. its not the rent but, "IT'S TO darn HOT."

Glad you seem to be fine, but they forgot to check out the walnut in your head! Had a Colonoscopy once. While laying there I could see the TV or monitor if you will. I was thinking thats just wrong leaving the picture of the guy before on the screen, he sure has a hairy rearend, then I see the Dr walk into the room on the monitor and realize, ah crap that me! and the drugs hit. Wait until you get the endoscope! You wake up read the report and it says something about a French Boogie Dialtor.

Rattle traps and crank baits, jerk baits really almost anything. I think it was Monday of this week Guide Carl Jones was fishing in the morning near Renyolds hole with live bait and caught a 80lb blue catfish. Look for pics in the Mountain Echo.

The low water amounts, since the stopping of gravel mining has certainly decreased to bio-mass CC can hold and grow. We floated it two weeks ago and many holes that were there five years ago are dragging shoals now. thousnads of tons of gravel should be removed to improve CC!

CROOKED CREEK When AGFC stream biologist Jeff Quinn sampled smallmouths from Crooked Creek in July 2009 and determined their ages by examining otoliths — pearl-like stones from the inner ear canal — the oldest specimen was 8 years old and 16 1/2 inches long. Quinn’s results prove that bronzebacks grow slowly even in rich environments with good water quality, a finding that supports the agency’s strict management and limits. The 90-mile creek starts near Dogpatch in Newton County and courses eastward through Boone and Marion counties into the White River, featuring what many believe is the nation’s best smallmouth fishing. Reports in recent years suggest that Quinn’s senior-citizen bass had plenty of buddies because anglers routinely catch smallmouths in the 18-inch range there. Biologists aren’t sure why, but at times, the fish move downstream of Kelly’s Slab, west of Yellville in Marion County, in waves, gathering in population densities 2 1/2 times the number of fish per acre that Quinn would rate as “excellent.” If you’re lucky enough to witness one of those downstream migrations, your grandkids will tell their grandkids about it. In addition to providing floating access, the Slab is part of a 2.75-mile shore-fishing area within the AGFC’s Fred Berry Conservation Education Center, which is off Marion County Road 4002 near Yellville. There’s even room in some spots for back-casting with a fly rod, so we like to drift Clouser Minnows and Olive Woolly Buggers there, and then let them swing downstream on a tight line. A short and sweet float of 3 1/2 miles runs from the Slab to the Yellville Bridge, but at least seven public accesses from Pyatt to Yellville make it easy to get on and off Crooked Creek. Fish the creek when the gauge at Yellville is 6 to 7 feet. Fishing along AGFC property is strictly catch-and-release, and the creek has two trophy zones where you can keep only one fish per day that’s 18 inches or longer. It’s between the U.S. Route 62/412 bridge and the Route 62 spur bridge and from the State Route 101 bridge downstream to the White River. In other areas, Ozark zone rules of two 14-inch fish daily apply.

Mornings the water has been zero to one unit. Making Rim great for fishing as well as from the state park down. afternoons the corp has been bringing 6-8 units on line. the water arrives at the Cotter area about1 to 2 pm. Fishing has been excellent for browns and bows. Possibly the best brown trout fishing I have ever seen.

Anyone Know What Kind Of Fish These Are?
taxidermist replied to Fisherman Sam's topic in General Angling Discussion
Smallies dont always have the vertical barring. most times they are the plain brown wrapper. -
Went out yesterday, I must be getting old seems I cant get to the river before 12:30 the hottest part of the day. Anyway the browns again right on track with over 30coming to the boat by my hooks. Here is a funny I had a really small lure on and kept missing fish. after about ten misses I thought what to Heck. Checked it and the front hook was missing, yea dont buy those $1.39 lures!!! My youngest brother whom live out in Los Vegas wanted to hit the river to fish, instead of the lake to scuba dive. He had a blast catching 16 large bows 15-16 inches and a bunch of those 10-12 inchers We finally came off the water at 6:00pm. Did not realize I forgot the camera until we were at the put in. Here is a laugh for you, two young people (male and female) had new kayaks ask my brother which way should they go. first, he said up stream. 6-7 units on line. Well they took off down river. I shook my head and lol, told brother. Should we wait a few minutes and charge them a tow fee to bring them back? He said na let them learn the hard way, they will not make that mistake again! Last we saw of them they were headed toward the rock levee at Buffalo City.

Browns have to be 24 inches to keep. Along with that if you use Power bait and pay attention you seldom gut hook a fish. Use a number 6 eagle claw crappie hook and should you gut one, you can slide your finger down the fishes throat, the hook will easily fit over your finger nail and finger tip, allowing the fish to be unhooked without killing the fish. If there was no put and take on rainbows the fish even at the lower stocking rates, would soon deplete the food source. Ham who is Jeff Williams? What about the current local biologist, and Mark Oliver the Chief of Fisheries should have some idea as he was once out local Bio.

Anyone know where I can get some fish tags made?
-
I had a first today I busted the magic 50 on brown trout.. I never thought to scrap some scales from the fish.. Not many under 12 inches but again lots of browns in the 14-16 inch range and several in the 19. Yes we catch rainbows too. Today I tried different shorelines verse where I know the fish would be. and still browns. There is some monsters in there and its just a matter of time. seven units and that's a lot of water. today we had a lot of moss coming down river but caught some really nice bows!!! This is not the largest fish today but the other pic was to blurred to use. This fish I think is three years old and there are tons of these!!!! This size fish is very abundant I really think these are in the four of five year old range. My wife was counting the fish numbers, she is abit OCD! There were some very large follow ups and seldom did a cast get made that there was not two or three or more fish following. we put in about 12:30pm and pull out on the ramp at 4:35pm Lots of water.
