Took the 30+ mile drive to Cabelas in Hazelwood this afternoon because I had to return something and to ask the fly shop guys about a broken reel foot that I need to replace(yes, still). I was amazed, after a short wait in the return line, I browsed my way over to the fly fishing gear. Walked over and placed my reel on the counter. Looked around, no one. Oh well, I figure maybe there's only one guy in the shop today and he's probably helping someone else right now. No big deal. So like the 12 year old 38 year old that I am, I just start picking up everything and playing with it. 10-15 minutes go by, a guy comes up and asks me if anyone is working in the fly shop, I tell him I haven't seen anyone. About 5 minutes later an employee walks up with an armful of items to be re-stocked. I ask him if anyone is working in the fly shop. He tells me that the 2 guys that are supposed to be - aren't in today. Huh? Supposed to be? Aren't in today? What the?
Now, I have never had ANY problems with Cabelas, ever. But, when the girlfriend finishes shopping at <cringe> Bed, Bath and Beyond before I ever get to speak with anyone that works at a fishing store, something is seriously wrong. I hate to sound like I'm trashing them, but that was just not right. If they're not selling any more fly fishing stuff, they should have told someone. Kind of sad, because I really like the place.
If I was running that store there would be 2 job openings in the fly shop at the Hazelwood Cabelas - right now.
