  1. Sorry Bill, should have come by, but didn't want to bother you guys. Next time we will. Jeff and I fish together several times a year. Told Jeff about your trip today and said congrats. Thought when you boys went by to load up that the bite was dying. We were right. See ya later.
  2. Saw you guys in Bear Creek and then saw you on your way back from horseshoe. We should have quit then also and loaded up.
  3. Fished out of Tucker Hollow as well yesterday. Caught 10 total, 4 keepers, 1 walley (non-keeper), 1 crappie (keeper). Pretty slow, all came on stick bait, biggest was 3.5 lb. Didn't start until 9:30, so looks like we missed the good portion of the day. Did see you guys a couple of times, but did not come by to say hello. Pretty much a slow day. Water temps were the same as Bill reported. My partner caught his on Megabass, and I caught mine on Spro (Norman Flake)and an Excalibur (Chrome w/ orange belly).
  4. See you there, Jeff Fletcher and I will be down there as well. Won't be getting down there until about 9:00.
  5. Don't know if this would be accurate, but wouldn't the stripers have a negative effect on the largemouth population? I believe I have heard that argument come from fisherman at Beaver. Over time, a large striper could easily eat a trophy largemouth.
  6. What was the website you get those at Bill?
  7. Hey Jessary I believe the Flit is made by a company called IMA, don't know what it stands for. It is a Japanese Company.
  8. I use it as a jerkbait. Never tried it as a crank, heard you could use it in that fashion, but I never seem to find the conditions I like to use it in that fashion. You know the fish I caught out of a cedar was also where I thought I was going to lose the bevy shad, I had not seen some of the limbs so I felt it start to come through the tree, eased it through there and then next thing I know I can feel a head shaking. I am sure had I done this more I could have caught more fish, but I don't think I want to take the chance of losing some nice jerkbaits. I guess I could have tied on a fluke and fished it weedless, will try that now that I have thought of it. Hope this sheds some light on your question.
  9. Need directions to the Nature Center. Will be coming from Cassville, meaning I will be coming up 60. Thanks
  10. I mentioned earlier that the jerkebait is a two-piece and the seam can leak around the hook eyes and the nose. Some of them have been coming apart after fighting a fish or two, superglue or nail polish can fix this.
  11. Fished out of Shell Knob from about 10:30 to 5:00. Caught 5, with 2 of them keeps. Caught 4 of the 5 on Lucky Craft Bevy Shad, caught the other on jig. Both keepers were in the 3 lb. range. Caught 4 of the 5 on one bank, first was the keeper on the jig, then 3 shorts on jerk. Caught 1st keeper out of cedar that has produced fish for me the last 5-6 years since I found it. Kind of a strange day, caught nothing in Big Creek, jig fish came out of Kings, and the keeper jerk, came off main lake. Fished a ton of cedars, but with the wind I just couldn't hold the boat correctly and leave the jerk sitting for long enough. Saw Jimmy Houston at the Shell Knob ramp, he was the only FLW guy I saw. Gave me a wave and took off. Good luck when you get to go.
  12. If you can find them, the Pfleuger Purist is around $80, small profile and casts very well with I believe 8 bearings. I have one, it is 6years old and still performs very well. Rods, well there are many good ones out there for about the same money, just need to go and put them in your hand. Hope this helps a little.
  13. The fluoro line I have been tying the last 4 months is the Eugene Bend Knot, its easy to tie and I have not had any breakages yet. If I use mono just tie my regular wrap and bring through a loop over the top. Have been trying to tie the blood knot to tie lines together, but I have problems with keeping a hole in the middle to run your lines back through. Anyone have a good tactic for keeping an opening easy to use. When I start wrapping the lines they wrap tightly and I cannot find the correct spot to run the lines. I have tried to wrap the lines by placing a pencil in there and removing it when I have wrapped the lines. Just don't want to do this every time.
  14. Fished Sunday afternoon, pretty tough. Caught 5 with 1 keeper. 4 came on the McStick and one on a jig head fluke. Pretty slow, fished the Campbell Point area all afternoon. Water was 43-45.
  15. Sorry to post this, but needed someone's best guess on what a 20.5 inch largemouth with 15-16 inch girth would weigh. I did not weigh her, but have been pondering this since I caught her last weekend. Anyone know a formula? Let me know.
  16. Fished out of Shell Knob with my oldest son, ran toward Big M fishing transitions with jerkbaits, caught 2 small blacks, water temp. was 41.2, ran up the mouth of the Kings, same water temp. no fish. Decided to run to Campbell Pt., water temp was 4 degrees warmer, caught 5 with 3 keepers. Had two good fish and a solid 17 inch black. All came on jerkbaits, McStick, out of creeks.
  17. I use a 6'4" falcon cara, 4 power with an old green curado on 8lb. and 10lb. fluorolear.
  18. motoman Just remember what I said earlier about the hook eyes and line tie. This is what the guy from Fin Feather and Fur told me. I got mine there in Springfield, there are on line places that are cheaper, but I am sure it evens out when you add in shipping. I just happened to be in Springfield, that is why I purchased mine there. Ebay has them also, and they are in the $12 range, I paid $15.
  19. You know techo, I don't know the answer that question. When I got my first boat it was a Ranger 354XT. Had a 150 Fast Strike on it, went plenty fast and was a great first boat. Got the itch for something a little faster and bigger and moved up to a R-93 with 200 Optimax, found it was even better than the first one due to the fact it gave me more room while fishing. The 200 opti I had gps around 70-71 mph with a light load, so the need to go faster was not there anymore, just the need for more space while fishing. I am now fishing out of a Z-20 that is my father in law and it is very nice, not overly fast, but fast enough and handles rough water very well. If I could go buy today, I would go buy that 19-20 foot with no more than a 225 hp on it. In my opinion (for what its worth), that is all a person needs in our area. Sorry to ramble, have a good day.
  20. Bought 4 McStik's yesterday and the gentleman told me when I take them out of the package I should take super glue or clear nail polish and spread over the joints where the line tie is, the hooks are and the lip. He said the Megabass also should have this done, since these are two piece baits that are glued together. Some them have been coming apart a little when fighting a fish. Just thought I would let you guys know since this topic is here and these baits are high.
  21. Yeah, no doubt about it, it is something new and new always costs you. I am sure their selling point will be how much money it saves you in the long run on oil and fuel and possibly maintenance. I would say that the only ones running them will be pros and the of course very wealthy. We may be able to afford one once it has been used a year or two depending on how the economy is and how used boats are being priced at the time.
  22. Yeah, that was my big fear also. Can you imagine financing a boat for that long. I can't imagine doing the long term thing. The amount of interest is astronomical. I know I won't look at one when it is time for the next one, in fact I think I will look used with some warranty when it is time again.
  23. I saw the other day where the new Yamaha is priced at $21,000 and a pkg. for example, the 21i Skeeter is over $70,000. Anyone else see these numbers? When I saw the price, I fell over. Anyone see one of these in action yet? Well just thought I would start a new topic on overpriced boats. I hope I don't get anything too stirred up. Well hope everyone had a great Holiday. See ya on the water.
  24. Took the boys out yesterday and prayed that we would not get wet. Rain held off thankfully. Fished about 3 1/2 hours and only caught 3. Looked for the white bass in 2 spots where they had been loaded and could not find them at all. Don't know what was wrong with them yesterday, but they sure seemed to be in a foul mood. Well that was it, fished from Shell Knob to mouth of Kings to Campbell point. Water temp. was 49 to 51. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year. Fish
  25. Fished the Kings today, fishing channel swings with jigs and finesse worm. Caught approx. 30 with only 2 keepers. Did have my buddy catch one heck of a channel cat on jig, must have been 10-12 lb. Beautiful day.
