  1. Sorry I am late with this, but I also fished on Friday, fished same areas as Thursday and could only muster about 7 fish with one keeper. Spoon fish were gone or at least not up feeding and fb jig fish did not bite nearly as well. Only thing different on Fri. from Thur. was wind was from NE on Fri. and West on Thur. Maybe that had something to do with it. Sorry I did not post earlier.
  2. Fished out of Big M today looking for the deep bite. Never found it until I went into the Kings. Ended up catching 20-25 fish on a spoon and football jig. Had 6 keepers with two over 4 lbs. One of which was a smallmouth. Hard to believe there was one that far up the Kings. All the spoon fish cam off of one spot. They were on bottom in 34 feet of water. Hope this helps.
  3. Ok first I am having trouble with my LCX 26c. It will come on and the Lowrance screen shows up and stays up. Any suggestions on what it could be. I plugged my 102c into it and it worked fine. Thought someone might have some insight. Buddy of mine used and left it out overnight and it got cold out, will this affect it? Second What is a major creek? I fished on Friday and today, caught 7 on Friday with 4 keepers and could not locate a grub or spoon bite, fished in the Baxter area. Fished today out of Big M. Caught 3 with no keepers. Only one grub fish, it was in the mouth of Carter creek. Is Carter a major creek or am I just being overly sensitive to the word creek. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. I had a built in transducer and it was not very productive. I upgraded my 135 to a X-26 and used the skimmer transducer and it works a lot better. I caught several drop shot fish this past summer using it and there is definitely a difference. I talked to Bill Beck last year and he told me that the built in ones cost a lot to replace also and burn out a little faster. You also have to remember that people like Bill will fish a lot more than me and the average fisherman.
  5. Doug I will give you a call when I see the extended forecast and I have a chance to see if those fish are in the middle of the creeks and coves.
  6. Yes I do know him and he seems like a great guy. My oldest son has him for a teacher and also his wife. They are both great people. Shoot me a message when you get back if you want to go, I check this site everyday at work and at home. Most of the grub fishing will be done down in the KC area. Have a good holiday.
  7. What are you teaching over there? I am the MS principal at Cassville. Will be heading down to do some spooning and grubbing next week. If you want to meet up and go with me, give me a call at 417-847-4025. That is my office number.
  8. TPierce, are you in school today?
  9. What are the entries for the tourneys and can you fish by yourself or do you have to draw? Thanks
  10. That would be a good guess. Are you from this area also?
  11. Question for the deep water experts. With the weather we are scheduled to have this coming week, how long will it take for the fish to start the move to the deep water in the middle of the creeks and large coves? These are the fish that are being taken with the vertical grub and spoon. Chime in and give me your thoughts. Thanks
  12. Yes they did. About 3 weeks ago a very good fisherman here in town was catching his limit regularly. I was supposed to go with him, but our football team kept winning and we kept having Saturday games. Ends up we won a state championship on Friday. I even drove home on Friday night from St. Louis so I could fish on Saturday. Ate up with it I guess. Wife thinks I am crazy. His crappie fishing was all up the Kings. He also told me that 3 weeks ago they were only about 6 feet deep on the trees. Hope this helps.
  13. Fished for crappie up the Kings with the two boys. It was sure slow trying to hit every tree with a ten or fifteen casts along the bluffs and channel swings. Boys got kind of bored. Did catch 2 keepers and 5 total. They were at least 10-12 feet deep on timber. Did put the big jig into effect on those 45 degree banks, first one I pulled up on caught 3 keeper spots in short fashion and a couple of shorts. Ended up in a short time with 4 keepers on the jig and a couple of shorts. Not bad for wasting most of the day on crappie. Good luck when you get to go.
  14. Fished yesterday up the White, caught approx. 25 with 7 keepers, most of the keepers were Largemouth. Had one in the 5.5 range and several other good ones up to 3.0 lbs. Fished channel swings in the creeks with a finesse jig just casting it to the bank and hopping it back or dragging it back. Sometimes one worked better than the other. Trees were a big difference maker also, needed them if you wanted to catch more than one or two on one stretch. Did not know about the football jig on chunk rock banks like Don caught them. I figured you would get hung up too much. So much for my figuring. We found fish from half way back to the mouth. How is this compared to the lower end Don? Water temp. was 51 to 57. 57 in the mouth of Kings and 51 above Big M.
  15. Got out after work today for a few hours. Put in at Big M and fished a half mile in each direction. In the 2 and half hours I fished, I caught 13 bass, mostly largemouth with 2 keepers, one a good 4.5 lbs. Caught all but one on a black buzzbait and the other on the wart. Water temp. was 61. Caught a few after dark and then trailered and came home. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  16. Fished from about 6:30 to 12:30 out of Shell Knob. Followed Robbie Dodson around a little while too. Just happened that he stopped by a spot I was fishing, and I decided to see what he was doing. Pretty neat, he is a good fisherman. He was cranking shallow and flipping docks. I followed him through 3 spots and watched him catch one keeper and two shorts. After that I decided to go fishing before I had to leave. Ended my day fishing bigger coves with a wart, caught keepers, did catch my best fish on a spinnerbait out of a cedar, probably had around 12 lbs. I was pretty happy. Did see the winner go by me today on his way up, don't know how far up he went, but I had heard that he was up above Eagle Rock. I did lose a keeper or two and could have sworn I had several fish that were just slapping at the crankbait, but I can't prove it. Anyone else have that happen yesterday? Well had a decent trip even though I had to cut it short. I fished from Shell Knob bridge to Pla Port. Good luck when you get to go.
  17. Fished out of Baxter on Friday, no school for us (fall break). Fished from daylight to 4 pm. Caught 30-35 bass with 8 keepers. All fish came on spinnerbaits off chunk rock and bluff banks with wind. Caught a few on crankbait also, but the spinnerbait was the ticket for us. Lost a few keepers including a really good smally over 4 lbs. She threw the spinnerbait before we could get to her, but as many of you know, they do not tire quickly. Oh well, got a good look at her twice, second time she gave me the spinnerbait back. Hope everyone has good luck when you get to go. Water temp. was 69.
  18. Hey Chamnp, are these fish supsended or on bottom in the slips? Thanks for answering.
  19. I don't know what Bill would say, but I think the faster moving baits work better in the fall as compared to the fluke. You may get away with using at as a swimbait, but the action would not be real enticing. This is only my opinion.
  20. I would call Indian Point, I looked at this last year from the campground perspective. They were one of only a few that are open year round. It is not far from the dam, so it may be worth your time to check out their marina to see if they will be open. Also, Whack is right, take everything off and out of your boat. A little extra time before and after fishing may save you several hundred or more dollars. Good luck and have fun.
  21. Hey guys, need a little help. Went down this morning and everything was fine, boat ran good, trolling motor was going good on 2 new batteries I put in last night. All of a sudden, I start it up and it sounds kind of different, and the next thing I know the idle is way too high, sounded like it should when I take off. After that I had problems starting it and when it did kick over, it would race at a very high idle. Had to put it on the trailer with the trolling motor. Anyone have any ideas? By the way, caught 4 keeper blacks on spinnerbaits. Biggest was 3 lbs. all others were 2 to 2.5. Thanks for any help.
  22. Fished with my 10 year old, just turned 10 a week ago. Fished Kings from 1:30 to 6:30. He has just started throwing the baitcaster, so fishing shallow is much easier for him. Well he ended catching his first jig fish, I am trying to post a pic of him after I post the info. He caught 2 on the jig and was hooked up at least 8 more times, but failed to get in the boat. He thought that was the greates thing in the world. I myself caught approx. 10 with 2 keepers, parallel casting my jig in 22-25 feet of water on ledge banks. Seemed when you caught one you would catch a couple on a stretch. That was the only bait we threw all day. Good luck when you get to go.
  23. As far as Cape Fair goes, I can't tell you, I very rarely make that drive. I fish primarily Kings River and the Shell Knob area. This crankbait bite is kind of crazy to me. I like the afternoon, simply because it is the only time right now I can fish. The 9 year old has mighty mite games at 11:30 so, I don't get away until 2 or 3. The football jig is something I don't do very well. So I won't comment on it. From noon to 5 pm, I would flip cover in the Kings or fish something fast. Hope this helps.
  24. The boys and I were at it again today, fished from 11:00 to 6:00. Thought we might get bit in some run off. That did not pay off, could not get bit on the square bill today as well as yesterday or last week. Fished a long time without much, and finally pulled into Big Creek and started fishing channel banks with wind and bushes and finally found them, had 2 keepers in the boat, but had numerous fish hooked up and throw the crankbait today, they did not seem to want to eat it today, more of just slapping at it. Water temperature was around 78-79. Got the 9 year old throwing a baitcaster today. Only dug it out of one tree. Pretty proud of him. Good luck.
  25. Sure Techo. The only reason I haven't shared the info is due to my brother in law finding the pattern and I didn't want to divulge info without him knowing about it. In the last week he has caught a 6-9 (I posted that last week) and a 6-4 the other afternoon. It is basically a square bill similar to the Rick Clunn 1.5 and 2.5. It is not a pattern producing a lot of fish, but it has been producing good ones. I was throwing mine on 10 lb. and he has been throwing his on 12 lb. Not hitting bottom the entire time, seem to be suspended in the water column chasing or waiting. Yesterday pulled up on one point, 9 year old caught a smallmouth, 14 year old caught a kentucky and I caught a keeper black. That was a main lake pocket point. Don't know why they are this shallow, but must be some generation going on and/or the Oxygen level is way better this year for September than usual. Color didn't seem to matter too much, shad colored was the ticket. In reference to the boys, the 9 year old thinks it was a catch as do I, but you know how brothers are, the 14 year old is adament about it not counting. I think it is because younger brother was kicking his rear. Real funny thing was that fish was only in about 2 feet of water when my youngest hooked it. Boy was he excited. If the boys could throw a black spinnerbait and fish in the dark, I would have stayed through the evening hours. Good luck when you get to go.
