I know the guy that is now in charge of the CATT club out of Blue Eye. He just took it over from some guys who did not run it real well. The new guy in charge is taking it real serious, so next year I expect it to be a little better.

Fished today, from Kimberling to Shell Knob
Bobby M. replied to Bill Babler's topic in Table Rock Lake
I got out saturday and found a couple of pro way up long creek, past the yokum, long creek split. one was guy eaker. he was flipping a jig and throwing a 1.5 lucky craft crankbait. said he had had some good days but saturday he only had one. he said he lost a monster out of a tree on friday. biffle was even further up eaker. biffle had to make the long run back to Kimberling satuday as he found one the many tree stumps in long creek and busted a hole in his boat. I never got real close to biffle, because he was fishing such small water that I couldn't get close with out interfering. he was way up the creek. kinda different from the rest of the guys. -
I have to agree they did a pretty pitiful job of utilizing the lake front, that doesn't seem to deter my wife from running by there a coulple times a week. In my opinion, the best water view is the waterfall inside of the Northwoods candy emporium, of course I did help build it so I am a tad bit biased.

this may be dumb, but table rock is a very infertile lake, except the james arm. I think it may be hard for the zebra mussels to obtain enough food to become a problem in T-Rock. just my two cents, I am sure we will find out sooner or later if they will make it in T rock. anyway, what are they going to do, make the water clearer. haha

I completly agree with you guys about the pro tournaments. I am disappointed that BASS scheduled all these events right at the spawn just so they could have these huge bags weighed in. I can't wait until the later tournaments when the pro's will actually be FISHING. I agree with kenjenmo, a fish released right back into the water, after a quick photo of course, will most likely end up right back on the nest. If you happen to catch a female that still has eggs, the argument about fry is no longer valid. I would suspect that any female that has eggs in her will go right back to what she was doing after she is released. the drive to produce offspring is too strong in wild animals for this to prevent her from laying eggs as normal. thanks for the input. Bobby

sorry, I should have been more clear. I definetly will not be killing any bass. I have been catch and release only every since I have started fishing on my own. besides, with so much sucker meat in my fridge, why would I want any bass. I think most people agree that releasing a bedding female directly back into the water after catching her does no harm to her or her offspring. If anyone has proof otherwise, I think it should be known so we can protect these fish. but currently there is no evidence that shows any harm. well, why we are at it, let's go ahead and discuss the ethical side of the issue if anyone is willing. should we bed fish or not. I think I know what most of the pros would say.
-
I am not looking for an ethical discussion on this, but I would like to know how some of you guys attack bedding fish and where do you look to find the larger females. I haven't did it very much, but I have usually only seen males on the beds. thanks for any info.

hey bobber, I have been around the Kings river my whole life, I have floated the lower stretches many times but have never floated anything above rockhouse. What is the highest float that a guy can take on the river? thanks for any info. Thanks, bobby

I would personally choose the Rock also. I would like to include phil in this, but if he doesn't want to get involved, and I understand why he might not, liability, extra work ect, we could just post a time and place and see if any one shows up. hopefully some more people show some intrest in this, maybe phil could move this topic to a more popular place on the board to get it some more attention. phil, thanks for any input and I dont mean to put anything on you that you are not up for, just wanted to see if there were any options. Thanks, Bobby

I agree about waiting until at least mid june. I don't think we need to make this into a real formal tournament, we could just all show up, pay, and then fish. keep it real informal and fun. it would be a good way to put a face with some of the guys that are on here. maybe some other people will have some more thoughts on the subject. thanks for the consideration. Bobby

hey phil, what would you think about getting together a bass tournament for all of the guys that post on this site. It would be fun to meet some of the people that post here and to fish against them, well, it may not be too much fun to fish against SKMO or Don House, they seem to do a lot more catching then most people!! anyway, your thoughts on subject would be appreciated. thanks, bobby

Dustin Back won a draw boat, $20,000+ skeeter, at the Childrens Miracle network tournament a couple of weeks ago. he is a freshman here at CofO, his dad works in the paint shop at the college. they are a real tough team to beat in our cofo fishouts, especially up the James river.

I think it is a good idea to let arkansas try it out firs. how many feet a year will be pulled out of the lakes due to this increase, I am sure that someone has figured out the amount. I would hope they wouldn't jeopardize a bunch of native fish to try and help a nonnative fish.

I am not a trout fishermen nor do I fish below any of the dams, so this idea of a minimum flow is somewhat foreign to me. If I understand it correctly, they want to up the minumum flow from below the dams. This means more water leaving lakes, how is this going to affect area lake levels. I would think it could cause trouble in times of drought, like now, what would the lake levels be down to if they were forced to let out more water, couldn't this be harmful to native fish while trying to protect a nonnative fish. I would appreciate it if those of you who are more informed could let me know whats going on. thanks, Bobby

phil, based on your experience with catching trout, what size trout are most common and what would be the best sized trout imitator to throw at these big fish.

This disscussion about the huge bass from Cali has got me thinking. I have heard several guys on this site talking about the giant bass that come out of taneycomo. You know these huge bass are probably feeding on the stocked rainbows. so my question is, has anyone ever tried throwing a large trout imitator to try and catch some these bass?

College of the Ozarks....

Both games can also be followed on the internet, at www.naia.org. you can have a live webcast of the game, it isn't video but it has constant play by play to keep you updated. I have watched all of the mens tournaments games and this final should be a great one, #2 in the nation Huntington and #4 in the nation CofO. both teams are high scoring and are playing really good basketball. Huntington and CofO are without a doubt to the two best teams in the nation, should be an awesome game We will have our hands full with a couple of there players, but if we play like last night, we should win. The girls are also playing very well. the team they beat last night had been blowing people out all tournament with all of there victories over 10 points, with some pushing 30 points. it would be awesome to bring two national titles home to CofO. -
I think that Al is right, the florida strain just will not survive and reproduce very successfully where the water temperature gets very low. However, if a few are able to spawn, they would be able to introduce some new genes into the "native" northern strain largemouths, which could be very beneficial assuming the fish got a good combo of genes, any bad combos would probably not live to reproduce so there shouldn't be many negative affects from this. If you guys are interested in catching some of these florida strain bass, Swepco lake in Arkansas is stocked with them and they reproduce do to the heated water, and there are some giants to be caught.

Hey phil, is there anyway we can get a hunting forum on here. I am sure many of these guys like to turkey hunt and it would be nice to have somewhere to post about this topic. thanks for offering this site. It has really turned in to the place to be for fisherman in ozarks. I used to really like another sites message board but the quality of this board has by far passed the other one. but I would like to have somewhere to post some hunting related topics. Thanks, Bobby oh yeah, I do know your son Caleb here at school. I am a commuter and don't spend much time on campus, so I dont know very many people, but I do know Caleb. I was kinda sad that he dropped the chem major and switched to the other one.

I am pretty sure it is just the cold water temperatures that cause the shad to die.

I was there in December and they had an actual concrete ramp. It was really narrow and had a bad anlge to get to from the parking lot and the slope was way wrong, saw guys having trouble getting boats on the trailers. also there was a pretty good drop on one side of the ramp, I watched one guy drag the boat axle 15 feet up the ramp.

here's a good story, feel free to laugh at my expence. I can't hear you. I was fishing a pond by myself a couple of years ago. I was throwing some sort of mid sized jerkbait, dont remember what exactly, but it had a lot of trebles. The first few cast I caught nothing but moss. so when the 5th cast came back covered in moss, I left out about 4 feet line a gave it a hard pop, in anger I might add, to try and clear the moss off. well the rear treble hooks ended up under my chin! the pain wasn't to bad, so I began to try and unhook myself. you can't really see what is going on under your chin, so I was going by feel alone. I finally figured out that two of the three hooks from the rear treble had went all the way through the skin and were sticking back out. I tried to pull them out, but that wouldn't work. I could pull the lure straight down and stretch my skin down with it so I knew it was only through skin. I ended up cutting the line and walking back to my truck, about 150 yards with a jerkbait hanging from my chin. I am glad no one saw me. at the truck, I looked in the mirror and confirmed what I suspected, being young and stupid, and not wanting to quit fishing so early. I looked in the mirror, pulled the lure down so that my skin was stretched tight. I put the blade of my pocket knife into the bend of the hook, and started sawing. After I had cut through skin to free both hooks. I surveyed the damage, not much bleeding, very little pain. so I walked back and fished for a few hours. I hope some of the rest of you will share your stories, I know everybody has at least one.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here
Bobby M. replied to bryantsmallie28's topic in Carp, the Other White Meat
hey bryantsmallie, you should come down here and buy your arkansas liscence. the grabbing season is open till the end of Feb. My dad and a couple of his buddies grabbed upwards of 50 last week out the Kings river. if you want go, send me an email, I can probably put us on some fish. the season closes for the month of march, but reopens in april, I was thinking maybe you and me, could do a blast, cast, and grab combo. Ark turkey opens on april 8, a few weeks before MO. we could hunt turkeys, fish the pond, and then hit yokum, the true "sucker grabbing capital of the world"at least it was last year. I know that by the first of april you will all fired up about the turkeys, this could give you a chance to start a little sooner. let me know if you want to come down.
