Fishing was really good today, the recent rains have brought the river up a foot or so, but it has remained clear, and the river is still lower than normal. Great dry fly fishing this morning, the trout were hitting #14 adams and #14 royal wulffs, I was fishing those dries with a #18 WD-40 dropper(olive) about 15" under the dries, and couldn't keep the fish off the big dries, caught a few on the droppers also, the action tapered off a bit on the dries so I put a lightly weighted crackleback on( griz/green) about a #14 in size and caught fish like crazy on this pattern for an hour or so, got up around the hatchery and put on a Al's deer hair pellet fly, and caught 14 trout on this fly and finally broke it off, and I was getting bored so I headed to Crane to fish awhile. Lots of trout were being caught on R.R. today, saw a bunch caught on orange, and cheese colored plastic worms, one couple were catching trout about every other cast or so on white powerbait eggs, and I did see a few being caught on olive micro jigs. Black/white(skunk) and black roostertails have been working well, also a lot of nice trout being caught on small egg patterns(glo-balls) Water is still very clear and not all that high, so use 7X (2lb) line when possible, good luck on the river this week. Fished this afternoon a few hours, caught 30 or so, caught most on a small green bodied crackleback, and several on a #18 parachute adams. There are still a lot of fish in the river, and they are bunching up in the back of some of the pools, so thick you can't hardly fish a nymph because if you miss a fish, you'll snag one. I was fishing 7X and 8X tippet, and it did make a big difference dropping to 8x but I did lose a few more flies because of the light tippet.

Water is still low and clear, we have had very little rain the past few weeks, areas around have been hit pretty hard with water but R.R. is still fishing very well. Dry fly fishing has been great, adams, hoppers, caddis, beetles, ants, stimulators, lt. cahills, griffiths gnats, renegades, and cracklebacks have all been working great. Nymhphing has been good, just had a customer come in and buy some Whitlock squirrel hair nymphs and some more pheasant tails, said he had been tearing the trout up on both. Good #'s of trout were caught this weekend on Pheasant tails, hares ears, burlaps, copper johns, sow bugs and zebra midges. Still need to use 9' 7X leaders and put plenty of 7X on you leader when you are tying on new tippet, 3' or more if you can throw it will work better than 24". If you have a light rod now is the time to be using it, 1,2,3, or 4wt rods will work better right now when using the 7X tippet, you can still use a 5 or 6wt rod you'll just have to be more careful when setting the hook and fighting the trout. Spin fisherman did well this weekend, power eggs and power worms did very well, lighter colored baits did best, cheese yellow, white and pink were really good producers this weekend. Brown, black, and skunk roostertails were still working, as were black/yellow, white, olive and dk. brown marabou jigs. Micro jigs are still working very well, olive, black/yellow and tan are still the best colors. In zone 3 night crawlers, corn and white power bait paste is working very well. If you are spin fishing use 2lb line that is not white, blue or the florescent camo stuff, use fluorocarbon lines, or maxima and you'll do better, 4lb is just to heavy right now to catch a lot of trout, if you have to use 4lb, fish early and late and stick to the faster water, good luck this week on the water. Tim's Fly Shop This is this weeks report, this may change due to rain, but at the moment, it is spot on, fishing has been great, I'm heading that way right now.

River is fine only 1/2" rain here yesterday. Low and clear.

Great fishing today, I fished my Tenkara rod again today it was great fun caught 20 and stopped counting caught them all on #20 parachute Adams. The Tenkara will never replace my fly rods but it is a fun rod to fish when you are fishing small flies in close, and it handled 8X tippet very well today, in fact I only broke one trout off all day. Water is very low and clear and the river is absolutely full of trout.

Why Are Some Members Deathly Afraid To Say Where They Fish?
timsfly replied to gotmuddy's topic in General Angling Discussion
I don't post all the places I fish, I'm trying to protect people from harm. I fish in places where the frogs bite and have razor sharp teeth and where the toads shoot venom out of their eyes. I just don't want people to get hurt. I did fish a little creek today below the table rock dam something Como caught a few before I had to bring my father in-law to Skaggs for a appointment. -
Kids day is tomorrow. All kids 15 and younger fish for free tomorrow at Roaring River State park Fishing starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 tomorrow evening

I'm using a 10' rod. It would be worthless on a fish 18" or bigger, I've landed A few over 16" but with no drag and no extra line for the trout to run with, decent fish just run out and break you off. The rods or at least the one I'm using is rated for only 4 lb line or lighter. This rod is fun on smaller trout.

There are a few around, I have several customers that are using them down here at the park, I'm taking mine out west this weekend and plan on fishing it in lower utah, I know a few small creeks that I want to try it out on if I have the time, it is easy to pack, mine is only 16" long when it is retracted.

Great Fishing At Roaring River State Park

One number 6 shot -
fishing is very good right now at the park, I fished my Tenkara rod today and landed 20 nice trout before I came in to work. I caught the first 5 on a #14 adams, and the next 15 I caught on a white chamois worm, I think I could have kept catching them( I was in the C&R area) on dries but I found a pool of trout there must have been 50 in the pool and none would come up, well two did but I missed both of them, I started catching them on nearly every cast for the first 10 minutes and then it slowed up a bit, I moved down a bit and it was just like before, they were all over the chamois worm, so I just kept fishing the fly, if it ain't broke don't fix it Fishing is really good, the water is low and clear and the fish are hitting dries most of all day, come down and try your luck.

Heading To Crane Creek This Evening (Report Now Inside)
timsfly replied to Trout Commander's topic in Crane Creek
Brown, olive and black seem to work best for me most of the time I use a lot of the Mike's Mohair leeches also, they will catch any game fish in crane and in most of the waters in Missouri and arkansas or just about anywhere else for that matter, eaisier to tie than a bugger also. -
Heading To Crane Creek This Evening (Report Now Inside)
timsfly replied to Trout Commander's topic in Crane Creek
I fished a bit down below town yesterday, caught seveal 12" trout on a #14 stimulater and one nice 14" er on a red san juan worm, didn't fish till about 11 and was done by 2:00, it was hot. When those fish are laying deep like you said they were last night, a bugger very heavily weighted might have done the trick, I fish buggers in the 1/16 ounce size often when fishing crane and other small creeks in the area. -
Crane creek no longer supports trout. So go fishing somewhere else

Hows the fishing, anybody been seeing any nice fish, used to be a bunch of nice fish in some of the deeper runs in the summer, is this still holding true ? Any info would be appreciated, thanks. Anybody been seeing any nice quality fish in one area or another ?

Haven't had a problem with line twist. I have been throwing them on my 7wt and mostly 8lb line and heaiver, no twist to speak of.

Hey, I stopped by this place today Sportsmans Factory Outlet, 2333 E. Bennett Street, Springfield, MO 65804 (417)-881-1635, M-F 9-6 Pretty neat place, good bargins prices on all equipment were good, some were just down right good ole fashioned bargins, rapalas in all sizes from the smallest to #13's for just $2.99 each, that is almost 2$ less than wholesale. If you are needing a good crappie or bass reel or rod, I would check this place out, lots of bargins in the back room. Lots of Zoom products and gamakatsu hooks, all priced right. Stop by and check em out, you might just get a good deal on something.

Went out on the lake early, in my kayak had some good top water action on my 7wt, big poppers were good today. It got hot so I went back to R.R. to fish awhile, the dry fly fishing is really good right now the fish are stacked in some of the holes, I only fished about 2 hrs and landed 13 trout, all but two on a dry fly, most on a beetle, a few on a crackleback and a few on an ant. I hooked a few on on a pheasant tail, but didn't land any on the nymph. I'm not sure why anyone would fish a nymph with the dry fly fishing as good as it is. Didn't catch any big ones but most were in the 12" range a few were a bit bigger and a few were a bit smaller, but all were fun on my 1wt today.

I think that empty box might belong to Terry Beeson, that is how he told me he catches trout on crane, he carries hooks, sinkers and worms He doesn't look wormy does he

that is great video, that much food will keep the trout eating and getting bigger for some time to come.

Roaring River Good Dry Fly Fishing Right Now
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in Roaring River State Park
I've been watching your place for you, I've been parking in your drive a lot this spring -
Lots of trout around the bridge by the hatchery, I caught trout there all morning, I landed maybe 15 trout the first couple of hours, caught most of them on a white marabou and a white woolybugger, I caught a few on a #18 Sow Bug fished about 3 feet below an indicator, the water is still up a bit and a bit murky, but not bad at all, I did add extra weight on my line when fishing the sow bug to get it down quicker and to slow it down a bit, caught a few on a apricot glo-ball, size #20 and just before I left I landed a rainbow that was 9 1/2 lbs, caught it on a weighted white bugger, I hooked it by the bridge (hatchery bridge) and landed it about 100yds downstream, saw a lot of fish here and there, some small some decent, nice mixture of small and medium sized fish, I landed around 36 total today, very nice day on the water, not a lot of people around and the wind never got up today, tried a beetle and had few fish come to it, but never got one to take. I had a good day, did hear a lot of grumbling about size, but hey thats fishing, they can't all be 15" inchers all day long
