Blue wing olives and caddis, tricos, midges and a few sulphurs in the evenings These are what I've been seeing the most, beetles, ants, and hoppers are working everyday, water is very low and very clear, so 9' 7X leaders are best
-
Water is still very low and very clear, this is the type of water you would expect in august or sept. not in June. No rain and very little relief in sight we are going to be fishing 7X tippet material for some time to come, fishing is still very good, but you have to go with the flow, you'll have to lengthen you leaders to 9 + feet in length and your going to have to use smaller flies most of the time, the lower water doesn't hurt the fishing, but it does make it difficult for the hatchery to produce fish, so we need water ASAP. Maybe we will get some, but the fish are fine, just going to make it a bit more challenging for the angler. Now small flies will work all day, zebra midges, pheasant tails, burlaps, copper johns, sow bugs, brassies, and GRHE's will all work, but use small #16's and smaller. Still good hatches everyday, Tricos are a good reliable hatch, they start in the morning, at daybreak and will go till about 9 a.m. and then the females will come in again in the eve. to lay their eggs, best sizes for tricos are 20's-28's Blue wing olives and caddis will continue to hatch nearly everyday, and best sizes will be #16's and smaller. You can use bigger dries and you will always catch a few trout, as they are opportunistic feeders and will feed on most anything that looks like it could be a meal. Beetles, hoppers, ants, stimulators, and wood roaches are all working very well right now. We have still been doing well on cracklebacks, and caterpillars. Small jigs, glo balls, grubs and thread jigs are all effective in the low water we have now. Micro jigs in olive, white, tan and black/yellow are all working well now. Orange, white, cheese yellow, john deere green and pink yellow worms are all working well right now. Orange, white, flo. yellow, hatch brown and the white maggots are all working well right now also. Roostertails are still good first thing, black, brown, white, and green have been best. just remember why spinners are called 30 minute wonders In zone 3 night crawlers, and minnows have been good, remember water low and clear, use 2lb line for best results, no Camo Cortland, or Stren, or Tri-lene right now, if you want to catch many trout, water is to low and clear for those lines, use maxima ultragreen Pline or the Berkley 2lb Vanish, Good Luck on the water this week.

Water is still very clear and running at a normal flow at the moment, we did get a 1 1/2" of rain sunday afternoon, but all it did was muddy the water for a few hrs and make the fishing fantastic for a few hrs, the beetle fishing after the rain was great, cracklebacks and ants did well for me also, I caught a few just before the storm on brassies, and 1 on a crackleback, it was going to be good but the rain and the lightning made me sit in the car for 30 minutes or so, and the storm passed and it was really good after that, a #10 beetle did best for me, I fished an hour after the rain and caught 9 decent rainbows. We have been having some really good dry fly fishing the past few months, Blue Wing Olives, adams, elk hair caddis, griffiths gnats and lt cahills (evening) have all been catching a lot of trout, the trico hatch in the morning is still pretty good, it only lasts an hour or so, but if you can get into them a #24 or #26 will work well for you. I'm still using 7X on dries and 6X on nymphs, 5X on streamers. Copper johns, pheasant tails, zebra midges, burlaps, sow bugs, san juan worms, glo-balls, chamios worms and small thread jigs have all been catching trout. Black, olive, and brown woolybuggers are always a good choice for catching trout, we will use them in sizes from 8's to 16's For the non fly fisherman, spinners and jigs are always good choices sight fishing with a jig when the water is this clear, black spinners have been working very well. Good luck on the water this week.

David Freeman Memorial Bench To those who were friends and acquaintances of the late David Adams Freeman, there is now a bench memorializing him on the banks of his favorite trout stream, Crane Creek. David, who passed away November 9, 2006, at the age of 50, was an ardent fly fisher and innovative fly tier. He was truly a Renaissance man who excelled in a wide variety of endeavors. The memorial bench is located on the banks of Crane Creek on property belonging to the Crane City Parks Department, Crane, Missouri. The bench faces Crane Creek and is located on the south side of the ball fields in the park. The bench was financed by five of David’s close friends: Tony Gianino, Tim Homesley, Steve Jensen, Dominic Meldi, and Harvey Ragsdale. Tim and Harvey assembled and installed the bench in the park. This memorial project is independent from other memorials created in David’s memory. The next time that you visit Crane Creek, please take a minute or two to sit and rest on the bench and reflect on David’s life and his accomplishments.

There are no snakes on Crane, come down and enjoy, no snakes at all. It's the frogs that will get you.

Tim's Roaring River Fishing Report, April 25
timsfly replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Roaring River State Park
Dry fly fishing is great right now, #16 and #18 B.W.O's are great right now, I had a blast today fishing dries. Now is the time to come and play, the weather is great the kids are still in school and the park is not crowded at all right now, I am going to fish that trico hatch in the morning with a 1wt bamboo that Gordon built for me, should be a great little rod for 24's and 26's and 8X tippet. -
Roaring River is still fishing very good, the water is dropping and clearing. The dry fly fishing is very good, beetles, ants, hoppers, yes hoppers, elk hair caddis, blue wing olives, adams, lt. cahills in the evening, and griffiths gnats everyday, lots of midge activity. Zebra midges are still very good, black, red, gray, olive and brown have been good, pheasant tails, sow bugs, copper johns, hares ears and brassies have all been fishing well. Olive buggers, black buggers and tan buggers have all been good, san juan worms, glo-balls, Y2K bugs, thread jigs and small grubs have all been working well. 7X leaders, for dries, and 6X for nymphs have been good. I'm using 9' leaders most of the time. The trout are of a decent size right now, the hatchery has been putting in an average of 14" fish the past week, and I hope it continues. I've seen a few good fish caught on soft hackles and prince nymphs this week. A few lunkers are still showing up, had an 8lb and a 7lb this week and a few 3lb trout were caught this week. Zone 3 is looking good, lots of nice limits are coming out of zone 3, mostly around the dam area. Good luck on the river this week, call for water conditions if you want, 417-847-4956 Water is clearing and moderat flow, it LOOKS GOOD

Zones 1 & 2 get stocked each night, march 1st-oct. 31st

Water is still in great shape, it is clearing very fast, the dry fly fishing has been very good again. It has been so warm for so long it seems the insects aren't sure of the time of the season, we are seeing a bunch of ants beetles and even seeing some small hoppers already, it is is like june in april. We caught trout all last week on dries and it is just getting better everyday, caddis, blue wing olives, beetles, ants, hoppers, renegades, wulff style dries, stimulators, and even on some big lt. cahills. Nymphs are still working very well, the usual stuff, pheasant tails, burlaps, sow bugs, zebra midges, copper johns, small prince nymphs, and soft hackles are all working very well, a little more lead on the leader really helps right now, the level of the water is down, but we still have a good flow, so one more #4 shot will help right now. Y2K, glo-bugs, san juan worms and chamois worms are all working very well, big woollybuggers in the morning, and smaller buggers in the afternoon, I've been doing best with olive, and dk brown buggers. If you are going to use a spinning rod, then spinners in the morning are good,(30 minute wonders) in brown, black, and olive, and white have been good colors. Plastic worms in orange, white, cheese yellow, pink, and orange/white have been good colors. Plastic eggs in white, flo. yellow, hatch brown, and flo. yellow have all been good this past week. Marabou jigs are always a good choice, olive, white, black/yellow, olive/black, and pink/white have all been good all week, the micro jig in white, tan or olive have all been good. In zone 3 power bait paste in yellow, or red/white/blue have all been good, corn and night crawlers have also been working, water is still falling and at the moment you can still get away with a good 4lb line, no flo. lines but 2 or 3 will work even better, in a week or two the water will be completely clear in a few weeks and we will need 2 or 3 lb line, good luck on the water, this week

Roaring River And Beaver Tailwater
timsfly replied to okiebug's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Fishing is good at RR right now, water has dropped and is still clearing, dry fly fishing Is getting better everyday, blue wing olives, caddis, adams, griffiths gnats, and beetles are good for drys right now. Nymphs are good, pheasant tails, copper johns, sow bugs, zebra midges, gold ribbed hares ears are good. Buggers in black, brown, and olive are good right now, San Juans in orange, flo. Yellow, white, red & chartreuse have all been good -
Water is still low and clear, as of this writing, the river is in great shape, we received a little less than an inch of rain on monday evening, and the river just barley moved. We have had some amazing dry fly fishing the past 3 weeks, lots of B.W.O's, caddis, and midge hatches, and it has been so warm we are catching a lot of trout on beetles and ants, and even on hoppers already, crackle backs are still as good as ever, and we are using the brown/green crackle backs, and the green/grizzly crackle backs, pheasant tails and copper johns are good right now as are gold ribbed hares ears and sow bugs, we are also still pretty good on black, brown, olive and gray zebra midges, as long as the water is decent we should be able to use these patterns with some success, I'm doing pretty good on olive, black, and brown woolybuggers, also a black or a brown wooly worm is a good choice right now also. I'm using 7X on dries, 6X on nymphs and 5X on bigger buggers and streamers. If you are using the plastic worms and eggs, then the oranges, white, flo. yellow and the charturse eggs are working well, if you are using the plastic worms then cheese yellow, white, mint green, yellow/orange, pink, and the orange, and orange/white have been good. Spinners are good early, black, brown, olive and black/yellow are always good early morning colors. If you are using the marabou jigs, then early I like white, tan and pinks, easy to see in the morning and the trout like those colors, if the sun is big and high I'll use a black, black/yellow, brown, brown/yellow, and black/olive marabou jig in 1/16th-1/100 in size, sometimes the smaller jigs are used under an small indicator. In zone 3 night crawlers, corn, power bait paste and nuggets are all good right now, good luck spring is here so it is definitely time to fish. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville,MO 65625

March 3Rd, Attack Of Megadon, The White Mega Worm!
timsfly replied to duckydoty's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I do use tear mender on mine, works great. -
We have had a good opening, lots of people showed up for the first 4 days, today was a bit slower. I've been able to fish a few hours since opening, an hour here and there, caught 7 this morning on a green woolybugger # 14 bead head. I have been doing ok on the buggers and the nymphs, copper johns have been very good this week, as have pheasant tails and sow bugs. I'm fishing most of my nymphs #16's and smaller on 6X tippet. Went down sunday and caught a several trout on blue wing olives, #20's worked best for me, I caught a few on parachute adams and a few on a #18 caddis. Saturday I fished 15 minutes down by where C&R starts(by dry hollow) and I caught 3 all on a #20 blue wing olive, didn't stay long I was very tired after all the work I had to do on saturday, busy as opening day for me on sat. I fished an hour on friday caught 4 and missed a few all on the bugger, this time I was fishing down at the S curve in zone 2(copper head bend) I've been getting a few good reports that a black zebra midge has been very good fished under a dry fly about 18" and some good reports on a small hares ear. The usual stuff has been good, san juans, chamois worms, glo-balls and grubs, have all been catching a few trout, I know jigs have been good, I'm seeing a lunker or 2 everyday caught on jigs, olive, black/yellow and white seem to be the best colors, the daughter of Phil Glaze(one of the guys who guides out of the shop) caught the biggest trout turned in by noon on thursday it was 8.1 lbs. caught on a Roaring River Special, in olive. If you like dry fly fishing come on down we have plenty to go around, it has been so warm I'm seeing a great ant and beetle season like last year coming on. GO FISH No tickets handed out for felt soled waders, none I heard of.

No damage or hardly even any rain here at Roaring River

I walked the river today or most of it anyway, lots and lots and lots of big fish, seen 5 over 10lbs, easy and 50-100 3-6 pound trout some of the holes had as many as 10 lunker (18" +) trout. Yes it will be crowded, as they are calling for weather in the 60's by noon, but if you have the guts and the want to, the blue wing olive hatches should be really good, and there should be decent midge and caddis hatches in the afternoon also, I wouldn't put a fly rod togeather till at least noon, most of the people will have their limit by then, or will have given up and gone home or gone to get lunch, most never return after they eat. I expect heavy crowds, thursday openings are usually pretty good and the weather should be perfect, so if your gutsy or have just never seen an event like this, if nothing else just come down and gawk at the other gawkers
