  1. i am trying to powder coat some jig heads, all went well until i cured them. they dripped a little and i was left with a "bump" on their heads from the drips. is my curing temp too high or what am i doing wrong?
  2. thanks dutch. they are building a new hospital just down the road from my house so maybe i should check with them. i went to a dive shop today to check where they get the lead the use to pour to use in their belts but i came up empty.
  3. where does everyone get their lead for pouring? i have been buying it from bass pro but i know there has to be a better way. will wheel weights work?
  4. i looked all over and couldn't find a football jig mold that would accept the pins. the only molds i could find in the sizes i wanted had to have the weedguard molded in.
  5. well i have gotten into tying jigs so much i want to take it a step further. i am starting to make my own jigheads, i say starting in sense that my materials haven't even got to the house yet. i am making bass jigs and the only molds i could find are the ones where the weedguard is molded into the head. i want to powder coat my jig heads and am wondering if this is possible with the fiber weedguard already on the head. if so how, and if not then any other ideas that would be durrable?
  6. beautiful fish hunter!
  7. ok, thanks for the help. now once i get the fiber weedguards how do i go about putting it on the jig head? i know probably a dumb question but i am a newbie and the scary thing is i am pretty much self taught.
  8. i am wondering where i can get the material for weedguards for some bass jigs i am making. any ideas?
  9. i fished a club tourney out of cape fair on saturday. threw a spinnerbait a lot of the day, having plenty of wind for the blade bite i just new it was gonna be productive. man i was wrong, or at least as far as me and my partner goes. we managed a few fish on blades paralleling chunk rock banks with the wind hitting them at a 45 deg. angle. the 45 deg. angle seemed to be a key most of the day for us. we threw the spinnerbaits in cedars with wind, we threw them along banks with the wind coming straight into them, we burned them, we slow rolled them, we kept changing blades sizes and colors along with changing spinnerbait colors altogether and it just didn't happen. we did manage a few fish on crankbaits. wiggle wart type baits produced a little bit when we threw them on flats. we were in 20-25 fow and had some wood. we caught our bigger fish on square billed crankbaits fishing in less than 5 fow with the wind again hitting the bank at a 45 deg. angle. burning the bait right into a laydow was the only way we could buy a bite on the square billed crankbait. too little too late but i did finally get on a jig bite throwing an eakins jig with a lil' critter craw trailer. a lot of these fish were the type of kentuckies that will drive you nuts, good fat fish that go about 14 3/4 inches long. i think this pattern would have produced some quality fish but i didn't figure it out until about 30 min. before weigh in. man i just realized this is a long fishing report for not catching many fish. well i will get off of here and let someone with something productive to say chime in.

  15. dad and i wont it with 12.89. J.E. and his partner were second with 9.99. big bass went to mike cooper with 5.53, and he was also third place with 9.92. the tournament has been a handful trying to get eveything together. now that it is over i can get a fund set up and i will be doing so in the near future. as soon as i do i will be letting everyone on here know. thanks for everything guys.

  18. i just bought a lowrance x135 from bass pro for like $399. i haven't got it set up how i want it yet but so far i really like it.
  19. thank you guys for your advice. i bought a kit from bass pro. i didn't really want to buy a kit because i wanted to pick the colors of material out myself but i figured i would screw up a lot of them at first anyways, plus it looks like materials are pretty cheap so i can buy more colors anyways. looking foward to getting started.
  20. i am wanting to start tying jigs but know nothing about it. was hoping i could get some advice as far as tools, tips, and maybe some how to's. thanks in advance.
  21. i have heard people say before that if there are gar in an area you might as well leave. however monday i was on table rock and caught a ton of fish, and 90% of them were in an area where the gar were thick. not really an answer to your question but maybe it will help you out some.
  22. he's had a few on here.
  23. ok first off i am not a trout angler, i am a bass angler (with some crappie thrown in here and there). but put this into terms i can understand...would this be kinda like stocking perch in the place of largemouth bass? i mean the both are of the same family but still miles apart in the game fish world.
  24. Ron, my wife is going to the bank tomorrow to set up a fund where donations can be sent. i will get the information out as soon as i can. thanks for your help!
