  1. Definitely an art form. Nice canoe woodman.
  2. Brittsnbirds, where do you get the loop to loop sink tips? And how do you match them with the fly line you are currently using? They would be more fitting to the way that I fish.
  3. Hope you feel better soon.
  4. Don't killem', send them all to Iran.
  5. What you DON'T want to happen, while fishing with an automatic, is to accidentally hit the rewind trigger and lose the biggest fish you've ever had on. Been there, done that. Soon after I made a run to Bass Pro and bought a good fly reel with a decent drag. Problem solved. That antique automatic reel is now setting with my other old and antique reels. I've since moved up a grade or 2 in reels, but I still don't spend too much.
  6. I seriously C&R each time I go. And I mean that I seriously intend to catch and release as many fish as is possible. I just can't make myself drive over an hour to just catch a few fish and then find something else to do. I go to fish. If you don't fish the entire day, or a good part of it, you can't realy learn the whole dynamic of the fish. It's really just a personal challenge to try to entice fish throughout the day and figure out what they will take. It's not always easy, as you all know, but it is always worth the drive.

That would be a surprise. Last year while floating Shoal Creek I had one of Dylans friends in my canoe and he cast a small crankbait up against a big line of moss and a 4lb. carp just smacked the crap out of it as soon as it hit the water. I was surprised to see it and the boy was thrilled.
  8. Don't worry the stocking truck comes at regular intervals on Capps Creek. Anyway, C&R fishermen are not the problem on this creek and releasing fish to be caught again helps everyone, including myself.
  9. Nice.... What were the baits that you caught them on?
  10. I love fishing the park at Jolly Mill, but since I spend a rather small amount of time at the mill,I think for me, $5.00 is a little too much to park. I'll probably catch crap for this, but I'll probably just park across the road and walk in. Donations? I'm all for it. Like was said earlier, I don't recall seeing a donation box. If I had I would gladly toss a couple of bucks in it each time I fished the mill area. Also, I have never seen the "caretaker" at any time in the years I have fished at the Mill. I also have to wonder if the fees being charged couldn't be lifted during the "off season"? Meaning Winter when there are far fewer people who are the most likely to leave the trash that seems to be a big part of the problem. I would also be available to help out with a stream clean up if need be. Let the beating begin.
  11. That's a great looking frog Ronnie. I think I'll tie some up as soon as I can find some furry foam. BTW, what size hook did you use?
  12. Way to go!!!
  13. I am in awe. You are a true craftsman.
  14. It was fast and furious.
  15. Sorry so late getting back to you Jack. I usually throw a 3/8 oz. War Eagle spinnerbait and 1/4 oz. buzzbaits. Anything with white, chartreuse or the any of the different shad colors. I've been throwing the War Eagles for about 3 years now and can't hardly make myself use anything else. The big fish are really blowing up on the buzzbaits right now. It has always seemed to me that the hotter the temps the better they fish.
  16. Nice.
  17. I know what you mean. I hit Shoal Creek this afternoon with the fly rod. Poppers and hoppers got a few half hearted hits, but nothing I was able to land. After a few hours of that nonsense I grabbed the baitcaster and headed to another location. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits took 7 fish in about an hour. I probably missed at least 6 more. Two smallmouth hit the buzzbait, but they were small and only had hold of the skirt. Those two Little suckers destroyed a new white skirt. On the way out I changed to a spinnerbait and caught a few more. Most strikes were right at the bank or near some kind of cover. This goggle-ey hit out in the middle of the creek. It surprised me. The spinnerbait is a War Eagle with double willow leafs.
  18. Here's another.
  19. Looks like you guys had fun. Nice fish too.
  20. Looks like a great trip.
  21. True, but then your not on Capps, your on Shoal Creek. Still a good spot to fish.
  22. Nice fish. Thanks for the report and pics.
  23. It's west of the mill about 1/2 mile on Wallaby rd. You can't miss it. There's a big gravel parking lot on the west side of the road just before the bridge.
