  1. Lily Lake, Lost Lake, Ouzel Lake, Lawn Lake, Dream Lake, possibly the Big Thompson upstream of the Fern Lake Trailhead. The easiest place to try to catch one without hiking over a mile is Lily Lake.
  2. It hasn't been the same since the flood in 2013. It moved the river channel over 100 yards to the west and moved a ton of gravel and boulders down from above the waterfall. Before the flood you could catch a ton. Now, not so much. With runoff right now, it's not fishing very well.
  3. Not sure how long its been since you fished in all of those states, but the following states currently require your SSN to purchase a fishing license: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Utah, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia.... I know I'm missing a couple, but those are the states I can think of off the top of my head.
  4. SS# has been required in Colorado for a good number of years. I think there are about 18-20 other states that require it as well.
  5. Hi Snagged, I was the host of the trip for an outfitter. I work for Front Range Anglers in Boulder. We take 8-10 hosted trips a year, but if you want to get down there, send me a PM.
  6. It's not bad actually. It's a flight to Honolulu from where ever you are, then a 3-hour flight from Honolulu to Christmas Island. The one and only flight (on a 737-200) that Flies to Christmas Island leaves on Tuesday. It returns on the following Tuesday. It's about 1500 miles due south of Honolulu, and only about 150 miles north of the equator. At night, you can actually see the Southern Cross and the North Star at the same time.
  7. Technically there are 2 Islands called Christmas Island. This Christmas island, (Kiritimati), is in the Island Nation of Kiribati which is 1500 miles south of Honolulu. The Christmas Island with all of the land crabs is off the coast of Australia.
  8. Triggers are extremely difficult to land, but man they are addicting...
  9. Hey Snagged, An 11wt will do the trick. There is no need for a 12. You also aren't blind casting to them its all sight fishing. The key is having the correct fly line (I recommend the SA Bigwater Taper as it has a 100lb core) Tarpon lines don't work well as they only have a 35lb core, and about 350+ yards of backing (Hatch 68lb because its the diameter of 20lb dacron) A good SW reel is also a must (Hatch 11+ or in this case an Abel SDS 11/12)
  10. Thanks Gavin! I landed 9 total. the biggest was 60 lbs.
  11. Thanks Guys! I'm glad to call you guys my friend as well! I have quite a few more pictures that I'll post also, just thought everyone might enjoy a few GT's. I didn't get a picture of my biggest which was 60lbs.
  12. Hey Guys, Just got back from a trip to Christmas Island. Thought I'd share a couple fish I caught. Enjoy!
  13. Thank you! It was a fantastic trip. BilletHead, I'm looking forward to it!

  15. Pondhopper, PM Sent. I work and guide for Front Range Anglers and we spend a TON of time guiding in Estes Park.
  16. It definitely is, It was about 33 degrees that morning, and there was also snow a little higher in elevation.
  17. A few photos of a trip to the mountains this last weekend. Camera: Canon 7D Lens: Sigma 10-20mm
  18. Nice Tiger!
  19. No problem Phil! I'm glad you like it! Snagged--I hate fishing by the dam. It's usually packed with people and there is much better fishing elsewhere on the river. I prefer the middle and lower river. Plenty of fast moving water that just about all other fisherman avoid. I managed to land about 40 fish in a few hours, including the one in the photo, from the faster water.

    Frying Pan Brown

  21. I caught this guy on Saturday on a day trip to the Frying Pan. Drakes, PMD's, Caddis, Yellow Sallies. This guy ate a jigged green drake.
  22. That is true, there are populations of ARCTIC grayling in Montana. There are Arctic Grayling in Colorado as well. The grayling I caught in Scotland are European Grayling. They have different habits than their Arctic cousins. European grayling are more like Mountain Whitefish in their habits such as the water they hold in, the flies they eat, how they eat flies, shoaling in groups etc...
  23. Yep,these are european grayling Thymallus thymallus NOT arctic grayling. The small one was my first grayling The second grayling was my biggest 47cm, which is quite large for European grayling. The next one was a average size about 30-35 cm. The closest fish we have to European Grayling here in the states are Mountain whitefish.
  24. You can also just check it in your luggage and save yourself the hassle. I'm also not talking about shipping 1 or 2 piece 11ft rods. I'm talking about 4 piece fly rods.
