Ha! That reminds me of a story that happened back in 1998. Jeeze that was 10 yrs ago now. Anyway I was the engineer on a yard switch engine at Knoche yard in KC. We had a new trainee with us this day. We get our cute little switch engine out of the roundhouse track and head down the ladder track towards the other end of the yard to begin our day banging out cars. I ease up to a red target and the foreman on the job tells the new kid to get down and "line us up." In other words as we were headed down the ladder track, we had a switch that was lined the into a track that we didn't want to go into. So this kid, heck he was in is 20's, jumps down and heads for the switch. When he gets there, he looks at the switch. Looks at us. Looks at the switch again. Then looks back us again. Confused on which way to throw it, he head back to the engine. Of course the phrases are just a flying in the cab. He gets back in the engine and asks "Which way?" Oh man we died laughing at him! I piped up and said "There is only two ways to throw a switch and its already been thrown one way."

The rest of my trip. I was down stream from the mill at the lower bridge access. I post these for those that have never been or maybe thinking of comming to Capp's and wondered what you may be getting into. It is really a fun creek to fish. I hope you enjoy these.
-
Finally, with some help from Phil, I am able to post some pics of Capp's Creek that I took Friday. It seems as if Phil and I unknowingly had the same idea only on different creeks. Thanks for your help Phil.
-
Traveling without a rod? How do you do that?
-
Boy are you lucky. I almost went to Crane myself but didn't. I stopped off at Capp's instead. I fish for about 3 hours and got soaked to the bone and decided to head back to the house.
-
Wat to go fishin! I at first thought you were at Allen but, with the KCS coming around the bend, your a further on down. I have been thinking about heading out with a fly rod tomorrow but I ain't done floating yet either. Nice fish, thanks for sharing.

I got to thinking about it later too. Buy yourself a paint gun. Yes Missouri has youth hunts. But you can take a young person during any season and let them pull the trigger. You can do the same with rod and reel.
-
Hunt them with a camera. Nobody says you have to kill one. If you enjoy the hunting part of it and not so much the killing and eating, then by all means leave the gun at home. I would certainly commend you for doing that. But if you want kill one, by all means do that too. Remember, there is no season on hunting deer only killing them. Hunt on!!

Well that is what I thtought. Thanks for typing slowly for me. Over on this side of the state we haven't drawn for a bonus in years. Plus, I haven't done it but, it is my understanding you can purchase all the doe tags you can afford.
-
How many free tags should one get? How do you decide that? Should it be decided on the amount of land owned or the amount of family members? Should it be only for those that actually live on the land hunted? Or can kids and grandkids, even from out of state, be allowed to hunt for free? I thought it was just the owner or lessee and the immediate family that got the tags? I don't recall just how that worked. I am not jumping on you. I know you republicans have sensitive feeling so I am just asking. Don't get all redbird on me. I am just wondering where and or how we draw the line.

Are you serious? Really? Tadman, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, ask if your mommy knows what you are up to. You call that a personal attack but your calling him "the ancient one" is not? If you are gonna play big man, you better learn how to take it like a big man. Otherwise don't play.

Bigbird - why don't you grow up and quit crying?

".......Number of Landowners Getting Srewed 75,000 X $45 = $3,375,000 Even more than previously discussed. Follow the money people........" Since you are the resident math wizard and since deer don't live on every acre in this state, then why do you continue to claim all 75,000 land owners are hunters? And why do you claim that every one them is going to use all three of those permits? The only BS in this thread is coming from you. Like always.

These are pigeons. The body and knot on the beak confirms that. Now in many bird books pigeons are also called Rock Doves. I have also seen them called Rock Pigeons. Others just call them pigeons. Whatever you want to call them, they do come in many different color combinations due to many centuries of captive breeding. I used to rabbit hunt on an old man that had fainting pigeons. They would fly up in to the air and them tumble towards the ground only to come to and do it again. Really fun to watch. Most of the brown pairs that like the ones pictured here, that I have observed, have had some white in them too.

Boy was tadman ever right about you.

Hey there Bman, long time no see. Hope everything is alright your way. I read Larry's column and for the most part enjoy it. I also have some of his books. I have met him and had pleasant conversations with him. But he is also very bitter towards the MDC because they wouldn't hire him as an agent. I don't know why they wouldn't, but there have been many people that have applied to work for them and don't get hired. His column reflects that in that he doesn't print all the facts. Only enough to make them look bad in the publics eye. And it works. You can see that right here in this thread. I know you are no fan of theirs either but that is just how it is. It is very hypocritical of Larry to make is living from the work MDC has done to offer better fishing and hunting and more access to both. Bigbird - Can you enlighten me on this deer crisis. I have never heard of a deer "crisis" in Missouri. I am not aware of any starvation and massive disease die offs due to too many deer. Now since you are self proclaimed math wiz, Missouri is 68,886 sq miles. There are 640 acres in a sq mile. The estimated population of deer in Missouri is just over 1 million. How many deer per acre is that?

GloryDaze - no I don't float that section. I am going to some day but heck I have been telling myself that for about 20 years now. My mom's husband and his borthers float that section a few times a year and do pretty good. They mostly catfish though. But they do some bass fishing too. I have not heard the stories about the strainers but then again that ain't what we usually are talking about either. The sections that I float are many miles to the east and out of the 10 miles or so that my dad and I have floated the last couple of weeks, we only had two that we had to drag around. But according to my dad who floats all summer long, he was able to get around them but now that the water is much lower, we had to drag around. There are few areas that can be very very tricky if one doesn't have alot of time river floating. Did you mean Hwy D south out of Purcell? That is where Quaker Mill was. Hwy 43 is a few miles to the west of there. MSUBobcats lives in Purcell and if still around here may be able to give more localized info on that section of Spring River. While in that area check out Dry Fork just to the north. It has some hidden treasures just waiting on someone to toss a plug to them. KCRIVERRAT - Love the name!!! When coming down 71, I take it you are crossing Spring River on what us locals still call the 'by-pass" on the western side of town? That is a very good section that doesn't see a lot of attention. You can put in at the Quarry and take out at Tuckers ford. Well you can't unless you take me with you. If you come through town on old 71 and stop for a Whistler burger (I always get a pig n bull w/cheese and everything, which is only onion, pickle and mustard, and yes, if you haven't ever had one, than don't come through town again without doing so. I think it may even be a law. ) you also cross over a section of Spring River that two weeks ago Monday, dad was floating by himself and got 50. He said the last 10 was the hardest and he really had to work at it. Check out the Shoal Creek forum for some reports. -
Another Spring Float

Sadly no you can't. Southtown in Joplin is the only place that you can find them but, you won't find the older version that mine was patterned after. They have the newer style that is once again no longer in production. The newer style has more shiney, metallic, chrome type color to them. The color that I patterned mine after was called white coachdog. It is practically impossible to find anywhere. I have seen a couple on ebay for sale but they were the narrow billed body style and I don't like that stlye. So if that is what you have that is a great river plug to be using. I would use it if I were you but, I would also plan on doing a little swimming if need be. -

I took another float trip with my dad on Sunday on Spring River on the eastern fringe of Jasper county. We hit the water about 1100 and it was really slow. Then about 1200 I finally caught a couple. It took all day but I did end up with 17 total. Dad, who kicked my butt last time, got his handed to him this time. I think he ended the day with 5 or 6. We both would have scored higher but, myself especially, lost many of them coming to the boat. Here is my first one to start the day. Dad did not want any part of operating the camera but, this trip didn't mind being in the pics. Not a big brownie but one none the less. I ended up with four brownies for the day all about this size. Just a shot of the river. (edited) Here is a shot of my biggun of the day. This one was only 7 oz smaller than the one my dad caught on our last float. This one came out at 4'7". I thought this was a really nice one for a river Kentucky. This one and one my dad caught had extremly pointed lower jaws. I have seen this in trout but never in bass. Here is a pic of the first bass caught on a tadpolly that I painted myself. Here is the big one for the day that my dad caught. I have to hand it to my dad. For a man that is 70+ years old, he still refuses to let me sit in the back of the canoe and do the paddleing. Its still like I am a young child and he is still teaching me. I guess I will be like that though when Dylan and I are in this role. I bet I will still be in the back while he is fishing. "There is a biggun right there Dylan, catch 'im!"

Looks like a nice place there fishhand. I wish I was in the market for someting like that, I would take you up on it.
