I don't think it is a big deal to most. It's the same handful of people constantly pushing it. Or at least that is how it appears to those that don't think it is a big deal. I don't think anybody hates it. I think it's the appearance of being shoved down people's throats. I only say that for lack of a better term. But holy cow, don't come on here not give it the absolute highest praise ever to be bestowed upon any bait devised by man or you will get a shellacking from Ned Heads. I have never seen a single bait draw such animosity from the astute deciples against the casual, nonchalant take it or leave it. I am more than ready to hit the water again? You have a spot you want to hit? Big Suge sure has a nice flow right now. Lots of nest right now but I'm sure we can find couple not guarding. I still have that peach shine in the freezer waiting on you.

I have never said that it is not an effective bait. In fact nobody has said that it is not an effective bait. I have always said it is a great bait and catches lots of fish. Is it better than any other soft plastic bait out there? Well, that's debatable. Is it new to the fishing world? Not by a long shot.

Nobody has ever once stated don't fish it. EVER! Why do you boys get your panties all in a wad when they don't buy into your hype? I have never seen grown men get so dam pissy over something as trivial as this.

Yeah that is the point people are try to make. And it's even worse in the rivers and streams being of smaller populations. The reason I used trout parks was the correlation of gut hook deaths. We all want to think that because they swam away, they are ok. That's not always the case.

Fish are very tough. Walk through a trout park some afternoon-evening and count the carcasses on the bottom after a fun day of gut-hook and release.

Well unlike you and me, they run in instinct. You ever see the video of the weasel and the rabbit? I saw it a few years ago on a wildlife program. The young weasel, after catching the rabbit, not knowing to kill it yet, started gnawing on its hind quarters. The rabbit, in a state of shock, continued to eat grass as if nothing was happening. Craziest thing I ever saw. Maybe that is what the bass are doing. The MSA and its members think Smallmouth are very fragil. I wonder what their take on this nonchalant gut hooking is?

I guess those I have caught on popular float streams are not as talented. And neither were the ones I have caught with a jig or a worm hook in their jaw.

Ehhh, I won't comment on the number of gut hooks a particular bait seems to have or not, I think it's more how a particular person fishes the bait and their particular experience and knowledge of the bait. I don't care what Babbler claims, gut hooked fish don't magicaly spit them out. And hooks are made from better, less corrosive steel. That in its-self will raise the mortality rate that may have been lessened by a lesser grade steel. Should the Ned recieve more negative gut hook press than any other soft plastic presentation? It probably depends on the person themselves.

They are designed to eat those things. A hook embedded in the soft tissues of the throat are not natural. And with the non-corrosive hooks being used today, it's nothing more than a death sentence. One that is long and painful. But hey, turtles have to eat too.

For someone that has been reading a science mag for the last 15 years I would think one would have improved their fishing prowess. I would also think one would not ask such elementary questions. Quite a difference I guess in learning from experience vs the Internet.
