  1. Yeah. I had alread been out of high school for two years when that happened. I was 19 when this became law.
  2. I felt the same way about the Hunter Ed. I had been hunting for years and years before that. I have yet to shoot anything other than my target. But I had to get certified if I wanted to hunt. So, I did. I understand why they did it. There are a lot of citified and some country idiots in the woods now days. Not that a once in your life course will be the cure but maybe it can help some. I have seen a huge change in the speeds and attitudes on the lakes over the years. There is zero common courtesy out there. One reason I don't fish lakes anymore. Except early spring. Another reason is there is just way too many people out there on the water anymore. The bigger the boat the bigger the attitudes. Same goes with some bass boats with big motors too. It is probably not to far off when they install a buoy system and lakes will look like they have roadways on them. If operators were more courteous, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation, and you wouldn't have to take a test. Bummer dude.
  3. I have used a rope lure. They can work really great. I like to use a nylon type that will fray much like barbie doll hair. It is not hard to pry their mouth open. It is not as dangerous as it would seem. But do use caution. It is not too bad to remove the rope. We have the capability to pull up or down from the top and bottom jaws. The gar don't. But they can and occassionally do get away. If you want to wear gloves, really any old pair of leather gloves will work. Why wouldn't we want gar in the river? They have been a part of the ecosystem for a few million years and have not done any where near the damage man has done in the last 100 years.
  4. No kiddin? That was your first one ever? Even so, great job there! You got the family out and you all got to float, see some wildlife, and just plain ol' have a fantastic time on the river. I don't find a lot of smallmouth in slow water. Though I do occasionally find one here and there. So there must be more, just very finicky. Probably due to the fact that they have more time to decide if they want to eat it or not. So how come we don't see a pic or her first?? Smallmouth that is! You make her work the camera all day???? Congrats on a great outing!!!
  5. There is a member of this forum that bought one a few years ago. I know he and his cousin use it very often on the waters of the Ozarks and have had zero trouble with it. I saw it just a while back and it still looks great. Volumns can and have been written about the pro's and con's of each brand. In the end it all boils down to each individuals needs and uses and the amount someone has budgeted. No matter which canoe you settle on though, it is imperative that you do store it out of the weather!
  6. Once again, way to go! It is always a treat to catch a logperch or two.

  8. LOL! Sorry about that mic. I do hope you are still employed. But if not, you betcha! Com'on down!!! By the looks of last few days of this week and the forcast for the upcomming weekend, it appears we may be headed straight into winter! The boys of summer are gone.
  9. I can't get my files to attach. I'll try again when I get home. Sorry.
  10. We don't see many pics of fish other than bass and trout on this site. We took the boys camping over the long weekend last weekend and did a little catting. The boys had pretty good luck. And amazingly enough, these fish are still swimming. We let them all go. Good job Slim Jim and Corndawg!
  11. You build some great boats Woody! Those are really creations of art when you get done! Thanks for sharing!
  12. Isn't Arkansas in the SEC?
  13. Give me back the Big 8! Screw those Texass teams.
  14. Small correction there Al. That would be RIGHT field.
  15. I am not sure we will stop the spread. And it could be for different reasons. But it wont hurt to try.
  16. The impact on the human is easily absorbed. Not so much the case with the environment.
  17. Would you rather the watershed pay the tax? But let's say you bought a $100 pair of feltless boots. You wear them out in 5 years.(Which by the way you won't do that fishing 20 days out of a 1000 ) That would average to $20 a year. Less than you will spend on gas per trip. Very true. But why take the chance at being the one???
  18. Atcually I believe the reason is due to the fact that March 1 is the date when the Wildlife Code goes into effect each year.
  19. If you think they are always in open sight, then you are sadly mistaken. And if you are not doing wrong, there is no need for contact. Get to know your local agent. Then ask if you can shadow with him sometime. You just may be greatly surprised. And please don't under estimate the today's binoc's. Everybody loves the outdoors. Until they are inconvenienced. The big question is, how would this discussion be if diddy was already in MO and the MDC did and was doing nothing about it????
  20. You spent 20 out of the last 912 days on a Blue Ribbon stream and you didn't see an agent?? But what you don't know is, how many of them observed you. I can't complain. I don't mind doing my part. And OB, Keep up the good work man! It really puts into perspective how others view our outdoors.
  21. Yeah its kinda like all the different speed limits on every fricking different road. Heck sometimes the speed limits changes multiple times on the same road!! And then you toss in school zones, work zones, this zone, that zone...I mean come on! Just set one speed limit for all roads and call it good!
  22. We had a discussion about Goggle eye here about a week ago and how hard it can be to properly identify them. Here are 3 of them from Shoal Creek. The first two were caught on the same day. The last one was from last year from the same stretch of water. Notice on the last one how predominate the spots are on the lip, fins and tail. Yeah I know, it ain't Friday. I won't be here Friday. Taking the family camping and I am headed out this evening. Won't be back to civilization until Monday.
  23. You said a mouthfull there!
