  1. Took my father out yesterday. We launched at RB about 545am. Fishing spooks and redfins from there to little cow. Caught several nice fish. Some were chasing some just were in the trees. We had 6 keepers up to 3.5lbs before they quit. Lots of small fish too that were a blast also. My father wanted to take some fish home so we the put on some grubs to target those big rock bass/goggle eye that I seemed to catch a lot of when we fish tourneys. Got onto one point and for a while just about every cast would be a rock bass or a smallie. Only had two smallies that would have been keepers just over 15inches but the rest were fun from about 10-14inches. The rock bass were big and we kept 15 of them. I weighed several and they ranged from .75lbs to 1.25lbs. Most of the rock bass and smallies we caught were in 10 fow or less.
  2. I took my wife out fishing one day during the week last spring when we were catching crappie on Stockton. We launched at the old state park ramp. My wife backed me down to launch and stopped in the waters edge to let me unhook the front of the boat. She got out of the truck to put something else in the boat, the door closed and locked. Just like SAM, the engine was running and we were blocking the ramp. It closed all the way, only spare keys were in my wife's purse (in the truck!) and one on my son's key chain and he was in High School that morning. Had to walk up the road to get cell phone signal which we luckily had already put in the boat. Called my sons school to get him out to bring us keys. Luckily no one wanted to launch the two hours our truck and boat was on the ramp. when my son showed up, he said he deserved to fish a couple hours before going back to school. We gave in and had an excellent crappie catching trip after a bad start.
  3. Surely everyone has at least one "honey hole" we also have cedar cove, goose island, shooting gallery, old duck hunting point, bream hole, walleye point, and big crappie cove.
  4. Went up Turnback creek today with my son. We caught several small crappie and white bass on swimmin minnows. Settled down to bass fish and caught 15 bass with 4 keepers. Biggest was right at 3lbs that my son caught. Caught them on Spinnerbaits in <8 fow. Water temp was 49-51.
  5. Caught 4 bass today all in the slot. Was throwing crankbaits along any bluff bank we could find. 7-10 fow
  6. We got to Viola about 930 this morning and had a hard time finding a place to park the trailer. We tried crappie fishing and only caught a white bass and kentuckies. So we went back to bass fishing and between the three of us caught around 50 on cranks and jigs. Only had 5 keepers though with the largest being a 17 in smallmouth. Had a ton of fun catching fish though
  7. I haven't been out of K Dock in at least a year or more. Did they expand the parking lot as you said you saw 40 rigs there? Sounds like a great day of fishing though.
  8. My fishing partner has the MO state record yellow perch. I was with him on upper Bull fishing for walleye when he caught it. It is less than 1.5lbs and we almost ate it. Not having eaten any yellow perch before then and we had heard that they rivalled walleye in the way they taste.
  9. Went out today with the wife for a few hours out of Mutton Creek. Caught about 20 bass from 6 inches to 19 inches. Most on crankbaits in less than 15 fow. Only had a 17 and a 19 inch keeper. The 19 incher was awful skinny. Looked like it had been caught before. Also caught one 15.5 inch walleye and one 13 inch crappie. Excellent day catching fish just not many keepers. Seemed like a lot of boats out today. water temp as I saw it was 69 to 71.
  10. I hit Springfield lake this afternoon to try a motor I just bought. Took a little time out to fish while I was there. Caught two bass in the slot on crankbait in about 13 fow.
  11. My 16 yr old and I also went out Saturday evening from about 430 til dark near Cape Fair. We saw very few boats on the water. Caught 10 bass on spinnerbaits shallow on points back in coves. Had 6 fish in a row shake off my spinnerbait, nothing big though. Only had 1 keeper out of the 10 we caught. Saw some topwater action but it was spotty and looked like small fish. We got hit with on and off rain all evening. I showed water temps about 79. Got to watch them 9 yr olds, I had several whippings put on me while fishing with them. They seem to have that fishermans luck
  12. Sorry for your loss. That was a well written tribute and very true about fishing is not really about the catching.
  13. Took my parents out this morning to catch some bream. Fished the Kimberling area and caught 30 big ones with several around a pound. We tried several points with marginal success but the last place we tried was loaded with large bream and at least two keeper kentuckies that we caught and released, one on crickets and one on drop shot. Most fish were right around 20 to 25 ft. It was a ton of fun and should be some great eating!!
  14. Trambia, it has been slow for me also. It has been about a week since the last time I hit stockton. We trolled all morning and only caught two walleyes in the 16 inch range and some crappie. I have heard the same out of some others.
  15. Got out this morning around Kimberling. Caught 3 nice keepers ( 2 LM and 1 SM) as well as a short fish in the first hour or so on the FB jig. Caught these in about 16-18fow. After a couple hours we started hitting some spots for bluegills with crickets. Caught about 12 very large ones with a couple well over a pound. Got run off about 11am by the heavy rain.
  16. A buddy and I went out of Cape Fair this morning early. Saw some topwater activity through all the fog but never caught any on topwaters. Switched over to the football jig before the fog lifted and fished it til about 11am. We caught 8 bass with 3 keepers to 3lbs. Lost at least that many also. Most were between 10-17ft. Seemed like there was a boat on every point up that way this morning.
  17. I know several guys who have caught some very nice walleyes on TR vertical spooning. Not all were targeting walleyes though. Up on Stockton it is a regular thing in the winter to spoon for walleye and whites. Also to vertical jig to.
  18. My wife and I took my 16yr old son and his girlfriend out Sunday afternoon just to catch whatever would bite. She has never caught any fish before. We went out of Rockaway. Ended up catching over 50 bluegill all of them very shallow in just about any pocket we stopped in. Also caught a couple of sport bass on crappie jigs. Caught two white bass on a buzzbait and a popr and my son caught a 3 1/2 lb Largemouth right at dark on a popr. His girlfriend caught one of the sport bass, a white bass and about 14 bluegill. She was very excited about the fish catching She was also very impressed that my son released the bass.
  19. P1, I am from Bossier City, LA and crawdads were a food group of their own when I was growing up
  20. Did you say you threw them back Being from Louisiana, we did not believe in C&R on crawdads. We only released them in a boiling pot, man are they good!! I have got to try to catch some.
  21. PD, he was probably just admiring your fish as he probably hasn't seen that many walleye in his area.
  22. Thanks Trav. I am in the same boat. Blew the engine on my Champion a couple weeks ago and am looking for an engine also. Been fishing in my jon boat to get by the slow time. Hopefully be back up and running in a couple weeks. good luck on your search.
  23. Hey Trav, are they still on beds or are you just catching them here and there?
  24. We have caught a few while trolling for walleye in the Baxter area. Someone at the Baxter dock told us that they came from Dogwood Canyon, I believe. The ones we caught were all 3lb plus fish and usually suspended over very deep water in the summer. Also, my partner caught a really nice rainbow in the Joe Bald area on a rogue a couple years ago.
