I think that I suffered a small tear back in 1988 or 89. Have had some pain off and on in the shoulder since then, but got much worse in the summer of 2012. Could still fish but pain caused me to start cutting my fishing time down!! MRI confirmed the tear. I was late getting into PT after surgery. Took 6 weeks before starting PT and had begun to develop a frozen shoulder. Was slow to get my range of motion back. Strange thing is that it starts to hurt after about 4 hours of sleep. Don't have to set my clock to wake up anymore!!! Old Plug is right about doing the rehab!!!

9lb, I feel your pain!!! I tore a rotator cuff summer of 2012 and had it repaired Dec 2012. It was slow to heal and get back out fishing. I still have some pain but am able to do most things now. Key is to do the physical therapy and rehab. I think my problem with it was just my advanced age. Jackie

Sadly, I don't think the WPA would work in today's society. We give too much away in welfare so people can sit at home. Doubt if you could get many to turn out for the tough labor required to do the work required. Just my $.02 worth Jackie

Stockton Lake Fishing Report 09/10/13
jbeenemd replied to Stockton Lake Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
I had rotator cuff surgery in December. Took me a lot longer than 3 weeks to get back to fishing!! Be careful with that shoulder. Takes 6 weeks or longer for those tendons to heal. Thanks for for dedication and the fishing reports. Jackie -
Just from a few trips out to Stockton this year, have seen that there is not as many schools of shad back in the coves as there was last year. So food supply seems to be down this year. Can not say much about the spawn. Jackie

Guess I picked the right time to injure my shoulder and have to go though a rotator cuff repair ;>) Have not been able to get out there with everyone yet. So I guess it kind'a makes me feel not so bad, but then just maybe all those short ones will be about right size later this year when I am able to get back out there. Jackie

They are out there watching. I went down to Highpoint and was fishing off the bank away from the ramp in the woods Saturday morning. I recently had rotator cuff surgery and not back up to fishing much. Fished for an hour before I had to take a break due to shoulder pain, went back to the truck, sat and ate breakfast then back to fishing. I had cast out a couple of times when the warden asked from behind me "Catching anything? Slipped right up on me. I know she was watching me in the truck and thinking "what the heck is he doing?" She was really nice. We talked for several minutes before she asked for my license. Seemed surprised to see that I had a lifetime permit. By the way, had no bites and only took home a couple of ticks. Jackie

Strawhat, I can not explain what is happening right now. With so little water inflow and high water temps, the lake is acting like it is stagnant. Not yet a turnover. Wonder what the big boys at Mo Dept of Conservation have to say about this. Maybe they don't know or they would have said something by now. Jackie

It is way too early for the lake to "turn over". The surface temperature needs to get down near 50 degrees before the water can get dense enough to begin to sink, then the lake will begin to "turn over". Do a "Google search". I can not explain the color of the water or the early death of our minnows which I have noticed as early as 2 months ago. I do believe that there is some depletion of oxygen in the surface water but it is not due to our lake turning over. I've also noticed that there is much more scum on my boat after coming out of the lake this year. Jackie

I was able to get out Saturday also. Put in at Mutton Creek and motored down to Birch Branch. Tried jigging in the timber. There were absolutely no fish of any kind in the timber. Water temps in the 85 degree range. My graph picked up fish out in the open water from 10 to 25 feet and were scattered throughout that range. So tried trolling with a pearl white Bandit 300. Let it out between 30 to 40 feet and trolled at 1 to 1.25mph. Caught two crappie a little over 10 inches and one 12 inch crappie. Also caught and released one large mouth bass that was 14.75 inches. Should have tried trolling earlier and longer, however, unfortunately one of my two batteries picked this weekend to fade away. I think that I was getting the Bandit down to about 15 feet as when I went over structure at that depth I would hit it. One tip with trolling a Bandit 300 is to have plenty of line and a light drag setting (don't need much drag with crappie or at least the ones I catch). You will hit structure and "hang up". Stop the boat and let the line go slack, back up and reel up the slack slowly. Sometimes it will simply float back to the surface. of the dozen or more times I thought I was hung up I never had any problems getting it unstuck. The only bait that I have lost this summer was due to having the drag stick on a bait caster that I had not used recently. I am thinking that with that long bill on it that it will hit and catch on that and not the hooks. Don't need any fancy expensive lead core line or line counters for this type of fishing. Talked to another couple that had been out on Friday and they reported catching a lot of fish on minnows and no success on Saturday morning. There were perhaps a dozen boats that came and went Sat morning. I only saw two other fish boated by them. My guess is that the when the front came through, it brought lower pressures and the fish stopped biting. Should get better later this week. Give the fish 3 or 4 days and they will be hungry again!! Bob, I knew you were good but did not know that you could predict what the catch was going to be for a future date :>).

Also this is a prime example of what the other word for a boat is...... a hole in the water that you pour money into!!!!

Justin, there is a boat repair shop in Nixa. It is just north of the Walmart there. Would have them take a look at it. They might be able to repair it for less than another used boat. Jackie

I usually stop at Lakey's. The air although not pristine is better than at Don's. They also open at 5AM.

Had to replace a dead battery and also my battery charger as one side of the dual charger died. Tried to put the strap back on and must be missing something simple but can't figure how to get the dang think to lock back down. Anyone have a picture or video on how to run the webbing through one of these. This is a strap that has a lever to lock it down after you get the webbing tight. If it matters it is on a Triton Fish and Ski. Jackie

If you are using a trailer to lauch then would use the access from CR 182, and if lauching a small jon boat then would use CR 691. I've seen people fishing from the bank at the CR 691 and were catching more crappie than I was from the boat. I also just looked at this on Google Maps and it lists CR 182 as CR 43 and CR 691 as CR 177. I have no idea which is correct. Jackie

I've never been stopped in Walnut Grove but have seen many others stopped. I come from Sacville and have thought about taking a shortcut around Walnut Grove by taking BB and then turning south on JJ to 215. Turn left onto 215 and will come out at Eudora. Jackie

Just a wild thought, but since they are supposed to eat rough fish, has anyone proposed releasing large numbers of of these fish in the Mississippi River to help combat the Asian Carp? Jackie

Thanks for the correction. Maybe this information will keep someone from getting in trouble. Jackie

I have not fished the A-Rigs and not trying to start a pissing contest. I've heard several people say that you can't use more than 3 hooks. I've never read that anywhere. Just looked at the reg on the MDC site and this is a direct copy of what it says "If you use more than 3 poles (or two poles on the Mississippi River) at any one time, the additional poles must be labeled with your full name and address. Regardless of the method or number of poles, you may not use more than a total of 33 hooks at any one time; except on the Mississippi River the maximum is 50 hooks at one time. If fishing on the Mississippi River and on other Missouri waters at the same time, no more than 50 hooks may be used and not more than 33 on waters other than the Mississippi. Hooks on trotlines must be staged at least 2 feet apart. Hooks on any type of line, as well as the line itself, must be attended every 24 hours or removed." It says 33 hooks not 3. Please correct me if I am wrong. Am I missing something here or not searched or looked at the proper pages on the regs. Jackie

Thanks for the info. I bought my Triton from them back in 2006. Always used them for the maintenance. Tried the place that they sold their Triton and Suzuki dealership to but I just never bonded with them. Are they doing the regular things like oil changes etc or just the performance stuff? Jackie

Don't mean to highjack this thread but I thought that HydroTec went out of business. Is this the same HydroTec that was just north of Nixa on South Campbell or HW 160? Jackie

I also was out there Friday. Put in at Mutton Creek and hit the brush piles. Fished with minnows. Got a few bites and went home with one 11" crappie. Started at daybreak and stopped at 10AM. Too slow to try and brave the heat after a slow morning. Was going to try and troll but fprgot to check my batteries and they had very little charge on them so would have been pointless to try that. When I was growing up in South Arkansas in the 50's we would go out and fish for crappie in the early morning by going to the brush pile or standing timber and dropping minnows by each one. As the day went on and it got hotter, we would crank up the electric motor and troll for crappie. My favorite bait was a dipsy doodle. Would also sometimes add a spinner with it. Back then we could get some that were made from pearl and had a single red dot in the center. I swear that did make a difference or maybe as a young kid it seemed that way. Have not seen a new dipsy doodle in 30 years but they are available on ebay (just looked). They are a lot like the bandits that are available now. I still have a single dipsy doodle left but will never again put it in the water. Too many memories with it to lose it. Jackie
