  1. Thanks guys... they are (embarrassed to say) White River brand, so I don't guess the manufacturer is going to do me any good. I will look for that Loon UV stuff. thanks again!
  2. I apologize if this topic's been covered recently... I looked around the site quite a bit but couldn't find it. the boy's waders have developed a pretty good leak in the heal. These are the lightweight breathable types with booties, they came with some patch material, but not for the "bootie" area. thanks
  3. Just a quick note, you can get some good deals on tires from discount tire direct.com no tax, and often you can get free shipping
  4. Well, there you go! I intend to make that float a time or two this summer... 'course I've been "intending" to do that for the last 5 years or so.
  5. Thanks guys, I've enjoyed reading this thread. Since there's no fishing and I'm not yet a tyer, I'm getting restless! My wife and I started floating Greer to Riverton back in the late 80s. We'd buy a box of plastic trash bags to use for dry storage and camp along the way. We used to rent canoes out of Woods, and we all got to know Don just a little bit. To this day we have a framed cut out of him in our living room, taken from a Mo Conservationist. The characteristic hat and the requisit cigar in position, fishing for pickerel out of a john boat. He didn't care much for trout as I recall. When I lived in St. Louis, a fellow named Barry Huffstedler worked with a friend of mine. Turns out his folks lived just downstream of Riverton. For a year or two they were kind enough to shuttle us and we would take out at their place. We even borrowed one of their canoes one year, a 21+ foot behemoth as I recall. Brian, I'm wondering if the Woods outfit is still there and in the family? thanks
  6. Wayne, you're thinking of Casey road, but it is closed due to construction. As you're driving East towards Forsyth, you can take a left on H, then a right on Davis (I think it's called) and find your way to upper Swan. We might take the canoe down around the Teatables sometime this weekend, otherwise I might join the hordes and take the boat out on Taneycomo. We'll see if we get the 4+ inches of rain they're forecasting for tonight through Thursday
  7. Shadowrock park is now completely under... I'm not sure where a person would launch the boat. I would recommend Empire Park (above the dam, on Taneycomo) except it'll be a mess for another week or so after today's deluge.
  8. Unfortunately, I've got to agree with Larry Richards... it is amazing how far and fast the water has come up on Bull Shoals the last week or three. It is a complete mess. Im guessing we got another 2 inches of rain today, which will only accelerate things. Even if you could find a flooded road with the right pitch to launch your boat, you're liable to inadvertantly beach your boat on a picnic table or something. Sorry for being so bleak, but all winter I've been looking forward to this year's boating season out of Kdock, Elbow & Buck Creek
  9. Good grief! An endless supply of Little Debbies and a sedentary lifestyle is apparently a bad combination.
  10. sorry, I guess I could have mentioned that we got skunked... it just didn't come up in the conversation
  11. We put in at Shadowrock tonight... the word here in town is that the park will be closed by Saturday. I guess there's room for 2 more feet maybe. It's been my experience that K dock will be no good right now, but I haven't been there in a couple of weeks. Generally, there are various places to put in at Beaver at different water levels... some are better than others. I'm wondering about Elbow(?)
  12. I just read on John Berry's thread that the predicted crest at Bull Shoals is 675 next week... this would be 21 feet over power pool, and another 7 feet from where it is now. bummer
  13. Materman, the Corps ramp at River Run is closed (flooded), but you can use the Forsyth city ramp on the other side of the river. The water color is getting better.
  14. Drove by about 6:30 pm and there were still "just" 5 gates open... the water color was a nice aqua green, and the Cooper Creek ramp was getting some use.
  15. We've caught lots of browns in the first mile or two below Powersite... in all times of the year. I believe them mostly to be full-time residents. I don't guess there's a "run" per se, because I don't suppose there are many (any?) down lake. (except for the deep water trout down near Mtn Home). Beautiful fish, always a nice surprise... I don't suppose we've ever kept a one of 'em though.
  16. I thought I'd celebrate opening day at the trout parks by staying as far away from the hordes as possible... so I hitched up the boat and headed to Kdock. Crossing over the bridge at River Run in Forsyth at about 10, I got the impression that I was not alone... easily 1 dozen rigs were parked at the ramp. As a former member of the local CoC, this gave me a smile! About a dozen rigs at Kdock as well. I fished about 4 hours from Kdock to Yocum, mostly throwing stick baits on south-facing transition banks. That was my plan going in, and I am stubborn. I caught this little guy at my second stop, which only added to my tunnel vision. Turns out that was my only bite. Water temp was 45. Some areas were stained, and others more clear. If you go in the next few days, be careful! Water is up, and there are a bunch of floating hazards. I fish lower Taneycomo quite a bit, so I'm used to running through floatsom... but I hate those low-floating timbers!
  17. Hey Paul, as far as camping there is a Corps of Engineers park at Beaver Creek and River Run (which is at the mouth of Swan Creek). The city of Forsyth also has a campground at the mouth of Swan. If you have kids, the Forsyth park has tennis courts, basketball, horseshoes, playground etc. For lodging, there are a couple of motels in Forsyth... The Beaver Creek park has a marina and a courtesy dock at the ramp... the River Run park has a nice ramp. The drive (either by boat or road) between Beaver Creek and River Run is easy, maybe 20 minutes or so. Lots of folks troll the water in between. You never know what you'll catch with a shad rap. Personally, I'm most familiar with the first 2 or 3 miles from Powersite down, and there is enough water to keep you busy for a long weekend. There are mud banks, gravel, shelf rock, chunk rock, etc. Current will depend on generation and is unpredictable. If it were my first time, I would recommend exploring and maybe trolling a bit during the day, then setting up for night fishing near the Powersite tailrace. Jig & Minnow would be good, as would suspending rogues and husky jerks and thundersticks. Good luck if you go!
  18. My understanding of "hijacking" would be like if you started a thread selling an Elvis salt and pepper shaker set, then I were to come on and post that I had some Elvis thimbles that I would like to sell as well Then- Phil would "nix" it by giving me a proper verbal smack-down
  19. Yeah, I generally don't go unless it's frigid or raining or some other calamity is present to keep the mass of humanity away... I'm not what you'd call a real "people-person"
  20. They did not generate yesterday... but the nice weather brought out the hordes. While that seems like alot of boats, it would be interesting to do a head count of boating fishermen from Lilley's to Lookout vs. wading fishermen from the MDC ramp to the cable... I showed up at Rocking Chair about 4:00, my guess would be about 5 thousand people wading!
  21. heh, this post title caught my eye... as a part-time flyfisherman myself, and for purposes of community service, I thought I might provide a brief list of things that I've noticed bug fly fishermen: 1. any boat of aluminum construction 2. any clothing of denim construction 3. stringers 4. domestic beer (unless it's a microbrew) 5. wind 6. calm 7. cold 8. heat 9. too much current 10. no current 11. spinfishermen 12. other flyfishermen 13. locals 14. tourists 15. people like me who hijack threads carry on!
  22. PM coming your way
  23. Hey Catman, do you think you could email a pic or two to me? sherripaydon@centurytel.net thanks!
  24. Gavin, yer an animal!
  25. I'll second the tough conditions... I fished hardbaits in the wind on Sunday with zero success. The lake is about 650, which is about 4' below normal pool... but IMO the worst part is little to no generation. The fish (and the baitfish) are easier to pattern with some current. It's too warm for my taste... my best luck for walleye this time of year is when it's f f f f f f f freezing! If you go, be careful of the shoals between Powersite to just downstream of the bridge. It can also get tricky between Beaver Creek and K dock at this lake level.
