  1. Glad to hear you're getting on them up there Brian. Do you have any advice on the Tecumseh area? Thanks.....Don
  2. Hey 2sheds, Great to see you back on OAF. Are you planning another float on a Missouri river this year? I hope you post another descriptive pictorial as you have in the past. Maybe you can take 2sets with you and call it something like 2 sets of 2 sheds, but that would make it 4 sheds wouldn't it? Don May
  3. I hear ya GF, About a half dozen years ago I tried both sakki and sushi for the first and only time. The sakki was OK; unique and acceptible in a cultural fashion. On the other hand the six different varieties of sushi on the sampler platter were not impressive at all. Only one of the six was somewhat acceptable. At one point I realized that I was not using any of the sauces that accompanied the baitfood and I knew that would make things better. I tried a few to no avail then I saw the light green stuff that must be like guacamole. I did not know what wassabe was at the time. After the one and only famous trial run, it hit me hard because I dipped the rice coated fish into a large glob of the stuff. I didn't know what hit me If I could have caught my breath i would have called 911. Soooo intense heat The strange thing about it was it did not linger like the heat of a habanero pepper; it disappeared as fast as it arrived. No more for me.....Don

    Chiefs

I like to call them like I see them. I don't think the Chefs will have a great year because they are still in a rebuilding stage. However, I am optimistic about their first three draft picks. Each of those individuals have serious potential of being the best rookie at their positions. After the first three, I had the feeling the Chiefs were playing finders keepers, meaning that they starting drafting for the best available player remainng in the draft as opposed to drafting the best player according to their needs. Chiefs

My perspective exactly. I hope they get a couple of OL who can start on opening day. They might draft a QB fairly early as well. Don May

    Tent

John, I plan to take several days to float and camp the 11 pt in a couple of weeks. For the first time, I'm going to have to scale down my camping gear to accomodate gravel bar camping for a few nights. I plan to pick up a Coleman mat as you described. Feedback afterwards. Thanks for the good advice. Don
  7. I never caught a gar on a fly rod. I talked to a few others who have. They say that the fight is not as tough as one would expect based on the length of the fish because they are not very flexible. Regardless, I thnk I would like to bring some nylon rope minnow flies with me when I float the James this summer. Don May
  8. My cat's name is Becky. By the way, where do we launch? Don May Seriously though, there are quite a few redundant posts on this forum. I try to use the search feature when I can and many times my questions are addressed on previous posts and replies.
  9. Previous discussions I've had about the awakening of the New Madrid raised the question about the integrity of the dams throughout the Whire River Basin. Don
  10. I found humor in that. Don
  11. I hope ypu have a great birthday Roland. I appreciate your posts and pics on OAF. Don May
  12. Appreciate it Phil. Lots of good history there in Baaaaston. Whatever you do, don't tell anyone there you have a hat on. Be safe....Don

    George Thorogood

Tonight I happen to be listening to Jammin George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers 30 Years of Rock , good CD. He may be one of the best at using the slide. My favorite is the remake of "Movin It On Over". Feedback?......Don
  14. Some factors involved. Alaska, sounds like big fish. Alot has to do with the rod weight compared to the chore at hand. What pound tippet/leader and how far the drag is torqued? Too much stuff on some rods are gonna do them in in the wrong circumstances. Michael Kyle set me up with a beginner rig years ago for local trout; Signature series 8' 4wt. For awhile it was all I had so I threw it all. I can not count how many times Brad Wright large dumbell sculpin patterns smacked my little rod; sounded like a 22 going off. It still fishes great. 15. Dad burn it, I fried up that 4.5 pounder I caught last week . not. Congratulations Michael. I know you guys have been working hard for those whites during a tough season. It looks like I'll have to switch fro 8# test to 6#test . Way to go BCO.....Don
  16. Obviously OK. Every time a woman joins the forum, they get twice as many welcomes as when a man signs up . I used to have a pontoon I kept at Mutton. Good area for crappie and whites. Welcome.....Don
  17. Well...a half a dozen of us good ole boys have cancelled our annual Cinco de Mayo trip to the Little Red because tailwater generation is you-know-what for awhile . Anyhow, our options now are rivers with precipitation controlled levels. I've never floated Eleven Point but I'm dying to go, water level permitting. I'm looking forward to my first trip the first weekend in May. Pray that a good report follows this post. Best Wishes.....Don May
  18. News on TV said TR dam will increase realease to 55,000 CFS this evening. Don

    Drumroll Please

The only way to haul it around was on top of my van. They roll up the sidewalks early Sat night in Stockton. I bought some straps at a marine shop the next day. I got a good workout paddling in the wind, but the boat did well. Apparently I didn't bolt the seat back tight and the bolts shook out on the way home, so I need new pins/bolts for the seat back. Oh well, lessons learned. I'm now ready to float some rivers once the waters settle down. Don
  20. My apologies Retro, I'll try to stick to the main topic next time. Thanks.....Don

    Drumroll Please

Camp good.....Fish bad. Camped at Orleans Trail. I was the only one in B loop. I listened to NCAA games around the fire. It felt great to get out for a change. Didn't fish there because of boat problems and when I was ready, there were two boats in the area I wanted to fish. Fished masters 2 hours Sunday - nothing. Went to Taylor and looked around at the flooded water, then went home. Don
  22. I need to call Jock 99 radio and ask someone what the exact quote was and where the data came from. I just think of how much revenue is generated by the Super Bowl alone. Don
  23. Of course there's genetic diversity. shade and color of skin, length, girth...just like people. Myself, I tried to differentiate dialect. However when I catch trout and their mouth moves up and down, I can't hear them. We may never know, but other trout may hear them when they silently scream like that when we take them out of water and ther jaws move up and down as they are screaming in trout language. I tried to decipher once and I think he screamed "Stay away from the gray sowbug with the gold beadhead!!" We'll never know for sure.....Don
  24. I heard a brief statement on the radio that the sport of bass fishing generates more money for the economy than all other spectator sports combined? I was not sure if I heard the details correctly because it played by so fast but I started thinking about boat sales, Bass Pro, etc. Does anybody have any knowledge or data to support this statement? It actually makes sense to me. I know I have spent a few bucks in my youth but nothing like some of you gangbusters. Thanks, Don May

    Super Bowl Recipe

I've been messin' with this recipe for a few months so I'd better reply. The first time wasn't too great. I used way too much jelly and it was too sweet and runny. Afterwards, a coworker brought green jalapeno cream cheese on crackers to work. I explained I tried something similar and baked it. She stated I need to use an electric mixer instead of baking. Here's what's been working for me lately. One pkg cream cheese. One-third of an 8 oz jar of habanero jelly. Mix well with electric mixer. Drain and rinse one can black beans. Add to cheese blend and mix with spatula. You're right. The reply I get is "It's different but it's good." It always disappears no matter how many people you share it with. Thanks, Don May
