  1. I've been researching boat building and the whole thing seems very exciting. The pirogue is described to be effective on still water and mild rivers. Since the bottom is flat, how well would one track and maneuver through a twisted winded set of strong riffles? Don
  2. We were eating chili that day. I would know because I'm the guy on the far left. I would identify the other OAF members, but I think they should come forth on their own. Don
  3. I will be tying Amy's Ant. I think our vice president Dick Cheney fishes this fly, that is, if he's not hunting. If I had the opportunity, I'm not sure if I would fish with him. He would probably hook me in the eye and knock me into the river. Don
  4. After taking my kids on their first float trip, I've considered purchasing a couple of canoes next year. But now that you went and did this to me...dadburnit...I'm intrigued. Where did you get the plans? Thanks.....Don
  5. Why not? Count me in. I don't use foam that much myself. This will give me an opportunity to brush up on those skills. I guess that's some insight on how good my bugs will look. I'll let you know later about what pattern I will tie. Thanks.....Don
  6. Good read Terry, I have read other articles stating the biggest error that a fly fisherman makes is that he changes the fly without exploring the changes of many other variable factors. Sometimes I get a little excited and impatient and am still guilty of doing the same. Don
  7. T.B. I've been praying lately for a few friends looking for employment. You are now on my list. I hope your last interview has a favorable result. Don

    Fishing Report

Two friends and I camped in Cotter for a couple of nights as I do around the 4th each year. We waded into low generation for about three hours Saturday and I picked up eleven on wooly buggers, pine squirrels, and copper zebras. My friends caught at least as many. One guy broke off a scud and caught the fish later to retrieve his lost fly. The fish fry with hushpuppies and taters that night was awesome. I hit the river when it stopped raining Sunday and the water was off. I fished for about three hours and landed 18 stocker size bows. Since it was a cloudy day, I only used a black zebra midge. The bite was hotter than I've seen it there. I also caught a sculpin off the midge. I fished Monday during low generation. Midging was hot at first then things just shut off like somebody flipped a light switch. I caught several more, mostly with woolies. I finished with 16 fish. Nothing was of any size, mostly 12-13inch fish. My biggest was a 14.5 in. brown. Most all fish were taken fishing the seams of faster water. I lost alot more fish than I brought to the net during the trip. As usual, it was a great trip and I can't wait to go again. Don
  10. I can't believe you haven't found yours yet. I wonder why I found mine taped to the side of the porta-potty. Don
  11. Does anyone have the fly recipe for the pasty? I can't find it on the web. Thanks.....Don
  12. He's not the only one. Don
  13. If you are visiting Boston MA, it is not appropriate to say "I have a hat on." Instead, you should say "I have a cap on." Just a few words of wisdom from Uncle Don.
  14. Terry, You write that up as if it were a bad thing. Don
  15. Did the author of the article refer to Mr Kyle as "Hillbilly Brown" ? Don
  16. Looks like they ran some Sunday. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=373 Don
  17. The big father daughter camp was next to us on the upstream side. The restrooms separated us and them. I didn't get to fish because I was too busy with my kids. My friend Kevin went flyfishing that Friday and had no luck. It could have been him. We floated twice Saturday. My friend and I saw several smallies from Tyler bend to the Hwy 65 bridge. Don
  18. When I ever stay the night at Taney, I always camp at Table Rock State Park about a mile south of the dam. Although, I'm not sure how full they will be this weekend. Don
  19. Yeah baby! I remember Chitlin Live in '75! Rock on.....Don
  20. Yeah, that Molly Hatchett, she's pretty good. I also thought about blasting some of them crows on the lot but I didn't know it was season yet. Don
  21. So, which one of you were blasting that new Sanjaya CD at 90 decibals last Friday night? Don
  22. We camped in the group camp area. You need at least 10 people and they are reserveable. You cannot drive directly into camp but parking is close enough. We had about 15 people and 8 tents. It was my first float on the Buffalo. It was the first float ever for all 3 of my daughters. Beautiful scenery but many canoes on a Saturday. I'm more interested in float and fish on a weekday. Don
  23. Don't worry. I'm wrong all the time and I'm still here . Don
  24. I don't get it. And how come I'm never able to figure out the temperature or depth of the water I'm fishing in? Don
  25. Last summer, I was on my way home from fly fishing the North Fork. I had a flat tire and no spare during a storm that night and walked to get help at a nearby monestary. A monk answered the door and invited me to have dinner and stay the night. I gladly accepted and I ate an awesome supper of fish and chips. When I was finished, I walked back into the kitchen to tell the cook thanks. I asked the cook "Are you the fish friar?" He said "No, I'm the chip monk."
