  1. I was at the gun show in Springfield on Saturday, too, and everybody and their grandma was there, buying, selling, trading and looking at guns. I think I saw those Fayette, Mo guns and they looked really good. We're they located toward the very back of the room? With the gun and ammo frenzy going on, the gun show prices were too high for me.
  2. It's spitting right now, 3:30 p.m., in Reeds Spring/Branson West. There is already a thin layer on the sidewalk from an earlier drizzle.
  3. Great looking fish!!!! Is that a bamboo rod?
  4. I've been a long gun guy for a while and never thought I would buy/own a handgun until recently. I thought I'd better get something before new rules and regs would make it hard for me to buy one in the future. Now I'm a proud owner of a used Springfield XD-9mm with a ported barrel. I looked at Sig, Glock and others and the XD felt the best in my hand and I liked the safety features. Now, I better jump on some good ammo. It was amazing to see all the guns stores around and in Springfield with picked over inventory. I think I was lucky to find that used XD. It's very hard to find a sub-compact pistol right now.
  5. Thanks!!! No need to look any further.
  6. Any good, affordable conceal and carry classes/instructors in the Springfield area. I saw a class recently advertising $125 for the 8-hour session. Is this average? Any suugestion would be helpful. Thanks
  7. How much do used Glocks typically go for?
  8. That's a sweet looking rod.
  9. I always wondered how those numbers worked. Thanks for the question and answers.
  10. Hopperdad, Michael is really a good source in terms of these things. If you live locally, I would really research this option. If you live in Arkansas, google Jeff Fultz. He's a well known bamboo rod maker and he repairs and refurbish vintage fly and spinning rods. He just finished some repairs on my 1950s era bamboo fly rod. Looking forward to fishing it. Good luck with bamboo rods.
  11. Anybody else carry a heater when they fish remote water? I've been thinking about open carry when fishing.
  12. Trav, good to hear from you. Looking forward to your next post. Cheers.
  13. I bought a Hoyt a couple a years ago. The Hoyt's had the x-factor for me. This was my first compound bow. Looking back, I think just about any new compound bow on the market today will do great in the deer woods and 3-D range. You don't have spend $500 to 700-plus for a good bow. The speed thing is sometimes overrated. Have fun looking for a new bow.
  14. Thanks for the report. I need to go down there myself.
  15. You can take them to Bass Pro's Fine Gun Room in Springfield. They will appraise the guns for free. They are real gentlemen. I believe your bio said you're from Springfield. Cabela's in KC also has such a gun room. There are blue book-type gun reference books out there that give general value prices on condition and other stuff. You can find them at Barnes & Noble and other book stores. Those two sources can give you a good idea on the value and current market. Like the guys said, long guns are no problem when selling to another individual. I would for sure get the Winchester Model-70 appraised. Pre-'64 models are in a market of their own. Those guns are in the $900 to $1000+ range, depending on such things as caliber and condition. Sorry about your dad. Tim
  16. Phil, Can a newbie do okay, as in fishing, with the $1495 fish-on-your own package? Or do recommend the guide option. Any additional fees for bringing the fish meat home? Thanks
  17. Thanks for the information. Great way to get the word out.
  18. Looking for opinions on these two makers. I'm looking for something dependable and reliable. I'll be using it for e-mail, web surfing and maybe some word processing. I'm not into gaming. I'm not really concerned about the various program features and memory, but which one will stay out of the repair shop the longest. Which brand has the best overall track record? I'm new to the laptop game. Thanks
  19. Could someone post the meeting's minutes? Sounds like very interesting stuff.
  20. I was down at the dam today, too. I walked through the pavillion this afternoon and I saw a loaded vest with a wading stick. A second vest was laying close to it. They were both on the cement slad on the east side of the tables. Two or three guys were busy with loading gear near the pavillion. I wish I could have been more help. Good luck.
  21. Welcome! Good to see another Reeds Spring resident on the forum.
  22. Just wodering if anyone has tried this TFO rod: TF 5/6 GLASS 5 Wt. 6'-9" 2 Pc. 2.9 Ounces Fiberglass $179.95 I understand the rod's action has a little more backbone than your typical fiberglass rod.
  23. This gentleman from the fiberglass fly rodders forum posted this comment tonight about the rod. He was very helpful. "Yes, that is definitely a Phillipson made rod. That reelseat is a telltale sign, as are the ferrules. The blank looks kinda like an Eponite blank to me. That would suggest it was made in the later 50s. From what I understand, the glass Phillipson rods were always wrapped with nylon thread. The LL Bean models were wrapped with black. Tom" He also said it probably took a 7wt line.
  24. I hope this photo thing works.
