  1. That is a good find.
  2. I have a slight split between the second and third guides of one my H-I Tonka Queen's tips. Do I just apply a small amount of super clue into the split and carefully clamp it and call it good? Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks
  3. LASGTA88, I would try any local fly shop, Cabelas or Bass Pro stores. Those folks we help you for sure and answer any questions you have and get you into some affordable starter tackle. You don't have to have the high-end anything to enjoy this great sport. It's too bad it has that image. I would also try hip waders with felt soles. Usually they don't cost that much and they'll get you in the water good enough and keep you dry. Most people probably wade too far and deep in the first place. I'm basically a self taught flyfisherman of sorts because lessons and guides are somewhat expensive. I read flyfishing books, magazines, watch videos and watch others on the water. This forum, of course, is great for learning about basically all aspects of flyfishing and the local waters. Also as you progress in the sport and purchase higher-end equipment, you can keep your starter rod and stuff as backup equipment or have it handy for a friend you wants to learn. Good luck and have fun with you flyfishing journey.
  4. Great report and photo. Catching a McCloud Rainbow at Crane says alot in my book. Congratulations!
  5. Ham, Try looking at troutlet.com Cheers!
  6. Dano is right. My glass rod may not be vintage, but you can't beat the accurancy and smooth action. The action is very forgiving.
  7. I finally got to test my new Hook & Hackle DT-5-F hi-floater line yesterday and today on Taney. I tested the olive-colored line on both my bamboo and fiberglass rods and it really did well with casting and mending. It was not stiff and flowed through the guides with ease. Not bad for $33.95. I've read Cortland makes the line for Hook & Hackle. It's no different than a 444 Peach, other than color and price. I've seen this 30-yard line recommended for mainly bamboo rods, but I'm sure they'll work with any rig. You can check them out at hookhack.com Cheers!!!
  8. I hear there's special medicine for such addictive issues, but why ruin a good thing?
  9. I checked out the new store this afternoon and it looked great! I picked up a couple of things before heading to Taney. The new location is good for me since it's basically on my route to and from work. I'm sure Michael will have great success at the new local. Check it out everybody!
  10. King Fish, How did you fish the jig? That was a great report. I've been hearing/reading good things about the Chota boots. I'll take a closer look at these this spring or even sooner. Thanks
  11. Welcome to the forum.
  12. Welcome DoveTail!! You'll enjoy this forum. Really good folks here.
  13. John Gierach's Trout Bum and his other books are just great fireside reads. You can't beat them. He also wrote a couple of how-to books about fly fishing small streams and bamboo rods. I highly recommend any of his essays and writings. Enjoy!!!
  14. We're fine in Reeds Spring. Pretty much all the storms went around us. Just lost sleep and nerves tested with the tornado siren, which located about a block behind the house, blaring all the time.
  15. "We will work on shad patterns for the shad kill. Since the lake turned over then that means the shad kill can happen any day now." Could someone please explain the turning over and shad kill thing. Thanks
  16. Thanks Phil. I also got mine today. It's looks great!
  17. I hope everybody is safe tonight.
  18. I just found out an old high school buddy is living in the Hill Country near Austin. In the area of Driftwood and Wimberly. He talked about the Llano River. I think this could be a new fly fishing place for me to visit. My question: Is anyone familiar with this area's fisheries? Also any suggestions on good spots and flies. What kind of flies are used for gar? Thanks
  19. Phil, Why does MDC say no to cutts and brooks for Taney?
  20. Jason, Look at the Mossberg 500 series pump shotguns. They're made in the USA and affordable. NEF shotguns and rifles are good, but I also think you would be better served with either pump or semi-auto shotgun. Good hunting!
  21. Phil, Thanks for the report and the great photos. Can't wait to go.
  22. You should look at C.C. Filson Company's wading jacket - $199.50. I don't own this jacket - yet. Filson is just really good stuff. "Might As Well Have The Best" filson.com Good luck!
  23. I was born and raised in the great state of Kansas. Go Jayhawks!!!!
  24. Cane Sprout, If you haven't done so already, I would look at www.classicflyrodforum.yuku.com The forum covers just about all aspects of bamboo rods. Best regards
  25. Happy Thanksgiving to all. The game should be the biggest border showdown since the Civil War - minus the bullets. Go KU!!!!!!!
