  1. have to watch for crocs there, dang things are everywhere
  2. Buddy of mine shared this nice Rio Grande Perch pic with me, caught near Austin Texas
  3. non-target fish were an issue, typically you need to sack them up so carp have a shot at the hook baits... when they feed they draw in more whiskery fellows.... one of the big issues fishing our lakes you need to learn how to avoid catfish... if you want to catch more cats in our area try euro-angling!!!
  4. water conditions were high from all the rain, fishing was tough, typically more and bigger fish are landed here are some of the setups used in the tourney
  5. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) is a prion protein disease in humans, in bovines its mad cow disease, and in deer its CWD ransmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. ... The abnormal folding of the prion proteins leads to brain damage and the characteristic signs and symptoms of the disease. https://www.foxnews.com/health/man-dies-from-extremely-rare-disease-after-eating-squirrel-brains https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/10/6/03-1082_article
  6. chum the area you want to fish with soaked whole oats, do it a few days before you go, cats will go nutts on it
  7. final results
  8. here is the rules
  9. all common carp are released in all these types of tourneys just like bass events, in the Connecticut River is designated as "Trophy Carp Waters" with a one carp per day creel limit and a 26 inch maximum length for Common Carp. all fish OVER 26" must be released by state regulations no fish are harvested and the harvest of common carp are limited to one fish and it must be UNDER 26" the state of Connecticut manages the CT river and a few others for Trophy common carp fisheries...as far as the BFed carp they are typically dumpsterd and dumped in someones field no-one wants to eat any fish they ride in the bottom of a barrel in a hot night with no ice
  10. Big Fish 34 @ the CT Classic on the Connecticut River
  11. now back on thread http://waynebarbersoutdoorscene.blogspot.com/2015/10/connecticut-carp-tournament-heating-up.html
  12. BFers are their own worse enemy... just an FWI the guy on you top post was instrumental in getting new carp regs past, that pic was used in the presentation to the state of CT...he is also in hot water for killing house cats it seems google it
  13. an update on this weekends big tourney in Connecticut on the CT river $25,000 up for grabs its because of this that the state of CT imposed these regulations #sizematters
  14. perhaps, but thats why y'all need to jump in to disparage carp fishing who was it in OAF posted they couldn't ignore the carp posts because someone might believe it? may fav quote is ; "if we let MoCarp post about how fun it is to catch carp, pretty soon they (state fisheries) will stat treating them like bass and walleyes" right now on the Conn river Carp tourney $25,000 is a lot of money to win...for common carp no less
  15. why is it a 'threat"? if its an I don't care then why all the negative anti posts? there is work being done on how to manage common carp because of the interest of fishing for commons euro style and fly fishing there is a Carp Anglers Group FB page with 4,000 members and growing as well as numerous regional pages carp anglers FAR out number muskie anglers yet we see more management $ for Muskies nationally. in the past we didn't need much in the way of protection and limits on carp and by default buffalo. Yet the massive harvest of BFing tourneys have devastated formally great trophy carp and buff waters... some heavily BFed waters have also show a decline in some gamefish (we have debated that here as well) sooner or later you will see carp limits in most states sorry I didn't start this thread and I don't have a proxy ether...I am sure Phil can look into it
  16. devils lake in the dakotas... I think has those giant yellow perch on my bucket list

    New Shad Regs

you are a skilled experienced angler/outdoorsman too many people out there can't tell the difference between a spotted bass and a largemouth or a rainbow from a brown....and then you have people who would use baby silvers knowingly 😮

    New Shad Regs

baby silver carp look a lot like shad
  19. ^^^^^^ new regulations coming to a state very near you....warned you the wave is REAL BUEHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH
  20. if you want to play the non-native invasive card all Missouri Salmonidae, Muskies, stripers (and by default hybrid stripers) Chinese ring necked pheasant (displace our native prairie chickens) all bass/walleyes and pike west of the rockies. It can be debated that common carp are not a detriment to native species in every water they occur many many waters considered trophy common carp waters are also trophy bass/walleye/pike waters as well we have debated that to ad nauseam on this very forum. its the old myths that keep being perpetuated to support eradication/renovation industries in states like NE-MN-WI that supply jobs to state employees....the rise to common carp being a $ generated sport fish in states like Texas, New York and Connecticut, you knew it was only a matter of time this was going to happen Mo the prognosticator
  21. they start in October - April ...they have a new brown trout reg and you must buy a stamp and you can catch them year round, just need to fish around the deep springs
  22. Perhaps he seeks a job in a state that embraces common carp as a viable sport fish to be managed? as we speak Connecticut is holding a big carp tourney for big money, Texas had such an event that saw a $250,000 prize that led to new management...I will also reveal that no fewer than 10 states are seeking similar regulations as Connecticut and Texas, That and some states like Oklahoma have seen fish like Black Buffalo have been BFed to the point of extinction! more than a few states will place a tag system on Alligator gar like the state of Arkansas for similar reasons...new studies are being help as to why some lakes are experiencing gamefish malnutrition... ands so it has begun
  23. I know the people who where involved with the passage of said regulations 1. In Connecticut (Connecticut River), there is a creel limitation on carp. Do you believe there should be one ? What about in your area? some waters here could benefit from a creel limit others no so 10 on limited waters with trophy potential 2. With this regulation, the limitation of common carp is 5 and trophy is 1 with a 26 inch maximum. Do you think that this is fair? in CT yes they have a huge euro-carping angler population as well as a large carp eating angler population (eastern europeans) so 10 3. Do you notice a significant abundance of capturing carp, that in which we need to conserve and protect them? we have some waters here that have trophy waters here and some that were decimated by BFing so yes even if it was too late for some lakes here- so 8 4. On a scale of 1 to 10, What would you say is the importance of protecting common carps? (1= no importance at all, no change needed in protecting them 10.... some carp waters as well as buffalo we need limits 5 = I see a difference, we could do some things to protect them ; 10= They need more conservation) (You can pick any numbers in between these three respectively). carp angling is a 8-10 billion dollar a year industry in the EU its foolish to leave that money on the table and considering how much as been spent on eradication efforts with little effect its a win win, commons have been here 140 years with until recently ZERO management as a sportfish
