If the fishing is phenomenal I'll let the guide fish and let him use some of my equipment .... otherwise I prefer that they don't. Also, I prefer that a guide does not have any of his own equipment with him .... unless it's some flies, lures, or terminal tackle. I have been on a few trips where I used the guide's equipment but most of the time I prefer to bring my own. The major exception is deep sea reef fishing. PC
Miami County State Fishing Lake near Paola has been producing for me. Boat, tube, kayak, or toon. No special license required .... just KS. You could also hit Hillsdale, Lake Miola, or Louisburg Middle Creek .... all are fairly close by. PC
There's a member of this forum that makes furled leaders with his daughter as a side job. His forum name is KSBASS. They perform very well and more than reasonably priced. See link below. Cheers. PC
Furled Leaders
TJ .... Thanks for the info. Yep .... we used to fish Rocky Ford too but it was pretty inconsistent for us. We also caught some nice crappie on down from the tubes. I can remember catching some large whites up in Fancy Creek .... from what I can remember it was easy to wade and the fishing was great. It has been around 30 years since I fished that area though.
If you wouldn't mind sharing .... please send me a PM .... I'm interested in the smaller tributaries of the Delaware that you mentioned. Thanks PC
Justin .... sounds like a great time and some nice pics. Thanks for the report. How long did you keep that stone fly nymph out of the water? I hope it was successfully C&R'd! PC
OTF: Most of the time I use a 9'6" 7 weight .... for smaller streams I use a 9' 6 weight and it works just fine. You should be good to go with the 6 weight. PC
When I was going to school at KSU (a long time ago) .... we'd drive up to Fancy Creek (at least I think it was Fancy Creek ) in April and fish for Whites. We'd wade the creek and throw road runners and crappie jigs. We caught some very nice whites and crappies. Is there still a white bass run up there? and is there still public creek access? Just wondering if anybody out there on the forum might have some insight on this. PC
OTF: Falling, getting hurt, and breaking a fly rod is no laughing matter. I took a header in the Moraine Meadow (RMNP) one day .... twisted my knee and changed my expensive 3 piece 3 weight into a 7 piece rod. I don't know what hurt more ... my knee ... or the walk back to the truck with my rod in multiple pieces and looking like an idiot. At least you got out and caught some fish. PC
It was disappointing .... the Cats didn't play well and were sleep walking through most of the game. Give the credit to Butler. Right on KCRR .... Butler had a great game plan and I was surprised on how well they defended. Our problem is that we really had only 2 scorers (Clemente and Pullen). Kelly and Samuels have their moments but can't be counted on game-in game-out. Colon, Merriweather, Judge, and Henriquez-Roberts are hacks. Sutton is a defender. McGruder doesn't get much playing time. The rest are non factors. It's down to Baylor for the Big 12. I saw that West Virginia beat Kentucky. I'm sick of all the John Wall hype and praise (almost as much as Sherron Collins) and can't say I was sorry to see them lose .
Right-on Jiggy ..... Coffey Cty. is a great lake. It can be brutal when the wind is up but the fishing is great. Do they still call you off the lake when the wind is up? PC
Yes!!!!! My teams are K-State and whoever KU is playing against. KU loses to Northern Iowa .... who'd have thunk it? The Cats are in the Sweet 16 .... it's been a long time. It's always the ref's fault when the Jayhawks lose ... really lame. Yesterday was truly a good day. PC
Right on .... I totally agree. I've had enough of big brother watching me in my everyday life. When I want to get away and fish I don't need big bro. surveiling me. What are the purpose of the cameras? Maybe if they see a violator they dispatch an agent? I don't get it. Maybe they're looking for giggers, shufflers, snaggers, cheese ball fisherman in Zones 1 and 2, and cullers. PC
Fished Crane today at the elusive dairy farm access. Brought 14 to hand .... missed twice as many. All fish caught on #16 tan elk hair caddis. Good caddis hatch in the late morning through early afternoon. Tons of little fish in the creek. Can't seem to get anything bigger than 8-9" though. Most in 5-6" range. Some porn pics below. PC
I was supposed to meet another guy at Crane today but I couldn't figure out where the dairy farm access was. Fished the upper Wire Road Access instead. Caught lots of these little dudes (see below) .... nothing bigger than 10". Stonefly nymphs, scuds, PTs, Princes, and eggs. No dry action while I was there. PC
Hey Pflugradt .... did you give that 4 weight a go? Nice fish.
DD ... I went to the furthest upstream Wire Road Access on Crane today. Lots of hungry fish in the creek. Did OK. Caught about as many fish as flies lost in the brush entanglement. Some of the trees look like Christmas trees (with all the flies hanging in them). There are some real nice fish in there ... but they're pretty savvy. Saw one angry beaver and walked up on an giant attack armadillo ... pretty freaky .... almost had to give it a boot. PC
I rig up multiple rods .... I throw the fish and rod in the bottom of the boat and pick up another one. I sort through the carnage when I get a minute. By that time ... half of them have shaken themselves off and are laying in the bottom of the boat spewing out shad. They can make a real mess in your boat .... even if they're going straight into the well. Sometimes I pinch the barbs or dike off a point or two. PC
