Wrench ..... When I fish the canoe put-in ..... This is what I call it .... Upstream is Riffle #1 .... Riffle #2 starts in the middle of the put-in and ends at the run at end of the put-in. The end of the put-in is usually good for me. I usually spend a lot of time there. The riffles themselves are hit-n-miss for me. Sometimes good .... sometimes nothing. Then it's usually lousy downstream (near bank chute/run) until I get to the flat area/run above the last boat ramp but below what I call Riffle #3. There's that run and hole (big log far bank - around that little peninsula). The fish hold in the run, hole, or are out on that flat. Yesterday they were out on the flat. PC

Fished the 64 access this morning. Fishing was decent. Seems like there's a few bigger fish around. Actually caught a couple of 15-16 inchers today. Pleasant surprise. They fought hard in that current. Thought I had a monster a couple of times ..... almost got into the backing twice. One had been caught before (tore mouth) and a messed up tail. The other one was clean. Plenty of the normal 10-12'' fish also. Took most of the fish on olive mohair leeches, olive slumpbuster, and champagne micro eggs. Missed quite a few fish ... seemed to short hit the leech and the slumpbuster. Maybe I was just asleep at the wheel. Fished the canoe put-in down to the last boat ramp. All rainbows today. The river conditions are good. The river looks great. Plenty of action. PC

Earlier in the year there was a very large male rainbow in the root wad hole (near bank) across from the gauge house in Zone 1. Have not seen it lately. It was the biggest fish I saw this year. Easily 10 lbs. I got taken into the backing in the high bank area in Zone 2 during last year's CR. Saw the fish .... brown .... she made a run into the weeds and pulled off. I'm guessing a 7-8 lb. In the river .... I agree with Wrench .... I haven't brought to hand anything over 18" in a long time. I did roll a nice fish last fall on down from the island on a slumpbuster .... that fish was big but she didn't stay pinned. PC

Made A Run Up To Cabelas In Kansas City
Paola Cat replied to Paola Cat's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
In Kansas City the $0.10 flies were in the open fly bins at the back of the fly shop. They had yellow labels on the bins. PC -
If You Could Only Have One Fly Rod
Paola Cat replied to eric1978's topic in General Angling Discussion
I've found that you always come back to a few rods that you are comfortable with. When it comes time to hit the water you go back to your comfort zone. I always come back to my Sage SLT 590, my old Sage GFL 490 brown blank, or .... believe it or not .... the Orvis Silver Label TL mid-flex 8'6" 5 weight. I do fish a Lamiglas G1298 also. Then there's the Cabelas LST hardware chucker trout park rod and the Lamiglas Appalachian small stream rods ..... here I go again. PC -
Fly Reels In My Collection
Paola Cat replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Hey Brian .... You need a few more? PC -
I had to make a run up to Cabelas in Kansas City yesterday to pick up some stuff. Anyway .... spent some time in the fly shop and they've got flies on sale for as low as $0.10 each. I heard on another board that Cabelas had a warehouse fly inventory of 30,000 dozen flies and were looking to unload them. Anyway, I bought a few dozen of the $0.10 variety .... it's the principle of it ..... probably didn't need them. They've got a bunch of discounted flies from $0.10-0.62 each. They looked like decent quality flies .... I know Cabelas contracts with some of the biggies. They've also got some good deals on anybody looking to buy RIO lines .... less than 50% off. Thought I'd pass it along. PC

Questions About Winter Fishing At Bennet?
Paola Cat replied to Zach Beach's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Looks like I'm headed down on Sunday ..... anybody else going to be there? PC -
I was watching Fly Rod Chronicles ..... a couple of weeks ago. On the show was the manager from what I expect is the same WV hatchery ..... they truely are mutant fish .... selectively "made" for the coloration. PC

I did a trip about a month ago to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park near Townsend, Tennessee. Fished several of the park streams. They've set a record there this year for high water and flow. Needless to say, the water was up, off color, and moving fast (sounds familiar .... I ought to be used to this .... LOL). Anyway, the fishing was tough but OK. Caught wild rainbows and brookies. Had to fish deep with heavily weighted nymphs to get any action. Biggest fish of the trip was 11" (yep ..... a lot different than your local tailwater fish). Beautiful area. Tons of wildlife .... saw (2) black bears. We stayed out of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg ..... they're just like running down 76 through the Branson strip. I'd recommend the GSMNP area to hike and get away. The fish are wild and small but still a lot fun. PC

He'll end up just like a bunch of former Chiefs. A very good player on some other team. Don't get me wrong .... I'm glad to see him go. This revolving door of personnel is comical. PC

Areas I've fished the longest: BSSP and the Niangua for 35+ years. MSP and the Current for around 30 years. RRSP for about 30 years. Taney on and off for about 25 years. Flat Creek for about 25 years. Stockton Lake for about 25 years. PC

Hookinear .... great name .... I've actually done that. Big weighted stonefly nymph hanging from my ear like an ear-ring. Anyway .... Wrench has provided a great list. The #14 Crackleback (green/grizzly) and the standard FC #12 olive Crackleback patterns fished dry are at the top of the dry list for me for either the BSSP or RRSP C&R. PC
