Thanks for the pix. Reminds me why I don't go...most years...although, Here's an opening day tip, go down in the river and fish a glowball (egg fly) while all those folks are chumming the water up for ya! Those river fish haven't seen or smelled bait in 4 months! You will most likely have the place to yourself, till they spot ya kickin butt. And there is normally one to two game wardens on duty opening day. So if bait fishermen come down in the trophy area with ya...they are busted.

FFM, And the best of luck to you and your co-workers. Hang- in. Bruce

Landing Trout With Your Bare Hands?
Bman replied to TroutRinger's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
The abouve tips are right on. The biggest trick is the upside down trick. Wet your hand first. -
Has anyone seen any mounts or heard about Bobs Taxidermy (Bob Sebby) in Bull Shoals, Ark ???
-
Politely inform them of the rules, if they are where the springs enter the river point out the signs. If they don't seem to comply, take pics, call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111. Or the local Sheriff. Inform them that when they take out at Scotts Ford (the float would last another 3-6 hours) the law will have plenty of time to be waiting for them.

With the generation from Table Rock Dam, you could easily run a big bass boat to the dam. With your jet you could go to the dam with no generation. Although, when I see wade fishermen from the MDC boat ramp just below the Dam, I go no further. Sometimes you see a lot of waders at Point Royale, then also I would go no further. I give wade fishermen a wide berth. Remember if they are waded deep, your wake could lap over their waders! Then you better get ready to dodge rocks! You need Trav !!! Or post your topic on Lower Taney

FFM, Thanks. The midges we were using were tan or grey WD40's. The crowd wasn't too bad, we could find our space, but had to keep moving & searching. It still is vacation season so there are those who just don't care and those who don't know any better. Some are just desperate to catch a trout. For the latter I usually try to teach them something, such as trying to watch out for those guys with those long rods whipping the line in front and back & all over. I add tippet to their usually too heavy line, put something on that will get the job done, usually under a float. And more often than not after they land that first one, you have made a life long impression. Regards,

Hey Seth, We were fishing the midge below an indicator at times or below an attractor fly like an egg or sj worm. Main thing is a drag free drift. You want to swing the soft hackles. Keep your eyes open for some of the biguns, my son nearly had one to net that would have been an easy 4 pounds (the one that got away) Good Luck, give us a report. tight lines, Bruce

Used to watch George Carson outdoors all the the time when I was a kid. He always made mention of "his lovely wife Millie" He was a member of our church, and taught me how to paddle a canoe and float Mo streams. Oh ya, and he taught me how to shoot the aspirin tablet with my BB gun, wow this all brings back some great memories.

My son Matt and myself got down to the park mid morning Sat. just in time for the sun to come out after the morning showers. Fishing was good. Lots of healthy lil pigs in there too. We were flyfishing catch & release all day and had no problem catching our share of fish amidst all the bait fishermen. Here's a few pics. What were we catching them on? DA MIDGE!!! sizes 20 & 22 toward evening we went to soft hackles, then the griffiths gnat good luck

People With No Respect For Others.
Bman replied to Trout Stalker's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Usually you see more of this type of trout park manners between Memorial day and Labor day. Try before or after these holidays. By late Sept and Oct. there are normally some really nice respectful folks down there. Otherwise just grin & bear it and keep on moving. -
My problem is she ALWAYS wants to go...say fishing, she's ready! Say boating, she's ready! she used to have her own bass boat down in La. Sometimes ya just wanna be out with the boys, or fishin by myself.

Yes. Next year when he makes his 3 week trip mentioned ealier in this thread, I will be watching! and maybe an agent or two! If I see him doing any illegal activity, I will make it my mission to make sure this dude pays for his violations, using lawful means of course.
-
To update this thread, here is the final reply from the MDC Agent. "Conservation Agents concluded their investigation of the violation report you posted on the internet. The fishermen was interviewed and admitted to fishing at the date, time and location but did not confess to using bait. Without physical evidence such as some of the actual bait, there is not probable cause to issue a citation without a confession from the suspect. The fishermen was very surprised that he was able to be tracked down over the photograph. I believe the effort that you and the agents made to track him down and investigate this report fully will leave a strong impression with him. Thank you for reporting the violation. If you witness further violations they can be reported by calling Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111."

It's a great camera for taking catch & release pix, 7 mega pixels, lots of easy to use auto functions, but you need something else. This Optio W 30 is rated to a depth of only 3M! for 2 hours. Great in dusty cond. also.
-
If you can, carry a digital camera with you. You could have taken pics and emailed them to MDC. For a little over two hundred bucks, ya can get a Pentax Optio W30. It's WATERPROOF so when I get rained on, wade too deep, or when I fall in it's ok. Just a suggestion...

If you are down at Bennett Springs, stop by Larrys Takle and ask for Ed Ellersick. Ed used to guide on the Niangua. Ed & Kay have been in the fly fishing biz for a long time, running springview tackle when it was at the spring hole in the park. Before the Park folks made them move outside the park. He would steer you the right way, and stay within your budget. Tell him Bruce from St Louis sent ya. Personally I would use a 9 ft 5wt. I love my StCroix Ledgend Elite 9ft 5wt on such rivers, and on Tanney in the fall. Regards, Bruce

You mean like a no holds barred, gloves off cage match in the octagon, high noon, spurs jingle jangling, on the dusty street in front of the saloon? If we are gonna fly fish it will have to be before, not after fishing with that stinky stuff. I'm not touching a fly rod after that stuff. Using Bossco Bait is really unfair to the fish, and borderline unethical especially since I know all 7 formulas. Seriously, I'm always up for fishing. Competitive fishing? My motto is I compete with myself, not others, Fishing and catching I do for the pure joy of it. And a love of the outdoors. For the rest of you actually reading this garbage, Bossco Bait is nothing more than colored dough bait. The real secret is in the method used, the presentation, the drag free drift, finding active fish, using light line, changing colors frequently as well as the size of the jig hook used. tight lines to you, Bruce
-
Wow,never heard that one before...hmmm super glue on a hook, wonder if the fish will stick to it.
-
Terry, Thanks, you crack me up dude, wheres the rotfl smiley? I sent puffydisk a message with instructions on how to make...dare I say it the most feared, the most dreaded, the best there is...BOSSCO BAIT Sorry FFM they made me do it.

If this comment was aimed at me, you need to look simply 3 topics down the board at this topic http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12363 Search some of my posts, and you will see. Many times a question posted has already been answered if you use SEARCH. Or look at the topics like jdmidwest mentioned. I have learned to use the search function from the admin of this great site. I am not a fly fishing dough bait hating snob...sorry, The biting tongue comment was reffering to a little light hearted humor between flyfishmaster and myself. Again search our posts. I subscribe to the git er done school of fishing, and respect all methods as long as they respect the law. regards,
