here is a map link.. http://www.kingsriveroutfitters.com/riveraccess.html tablerock lake is up. I'm not sure how high it has backed-up the river. but your so close to having three or four spots to hit on the tail end..... but, above rock house is shallow, all but one long deep hole that everyone pounds.the next hole is about two miles up from that.
-
you bet , parking at grandview is a problem it's right on the road...but the 62 bridge is a game and fish public access, under the bridge. and you could go a long ways up stream or down without any trouble at all. lots of snakes!! more so than any other river i have ever been on...... (i hate snakes)
-
you really don't have that many options to just drive up and fish. but the two bridges one on hwy62 between eureka and berryville. and grandview about 3 miles from 62. would come to mind. at the 62 bridge Osage creek comes in could be another option... all the same baits as crooked creek work well on the kings! ... hope it helps? the kings river outfitters site has a river map.

that would be buffalo float service. and Arron is a good guy.. that price seems cheap! but,i would go down stream on the white to shipps ferry. rather than hope i could fight the current, and paddle the mile and a half up stream at the end of a big trip...

that book should be only used as a guide~line! it doesn't buy them ,or sell them? ...just saying!...... besides the hunt for the deal is most of the fun anyway! right?.. -

the algae is always there it's above the problem also... mill creek got a pump loaned to them, to pump back up to the lift-station. and water testing is being monitored. how well, and whats showing up is the part nobodys talking about!

you can still put in at pruitt but it's low and yes you have to get out at least two times. and come out at woolum ,or bakers ford. or for that matter tyler bend.14 hours of daylite..... buffalo river canoes, just shut down last sunday. due to low water conditions so hope that helps you?

I have seen some of the damage already starting on the Cadron and the home made holding ponds.(what a joke!) 3 water pumping stations on the banks with diesel fuel soaked, stained ground spots. materials used in damming the creek to move heavy equipment deeper into the woods of our natural forest.

cold springs!... in my line of work ,we call people like you, and your way of thinking "VICTOMS"... 90% of all water related deaths had that same train of thought! and with the SAFE BOATING WEEK just being over. and the summer WARE IT LIFE JACKET campain starting we are going to have to give you a no vote for poster child!......... sorry for rippin' on you buddy ..... BUT I AM THAT GUY THAT WEARS A HELMET AND A LIFEJACKET that you think is silly .....

IT'S SO SAD TO HEAR THE DUMB REPLYS ABOUT "I'M A GOOD SWIMMER ".... GO AHEAD , HOLD A DEEP BREATH!!!!....... THAT'S HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU DIE!

we only go down to woolum.. (unless it's a 3 or 4 day trip).. thats the end for the upper district .. but silver hills or gilbert store can hook you up....but don't try to pay anyone on the park land, at a take out. or put in. it's a no no!! and is looked down as a bad thing.plus it's aganist outfitter permit rules.
-
during season no outfitter can put in at ponca until after noon. that's why they all are at steel creek. and yes you can rent from anyone and still use the ponca put in. it's all public access... and yes there are cheaper prices on canoe rental and shuttles. you can see all the prices on each outfitters web site just click on a logo on the USGS gauge page link..~~~~>>>> here is a shameless plug.... i work for buffalo river canoes @ floatthebuffalo.com.. and that will save you about 25 dollars!! you see it's not who you know, but what you know!!
-
a good example was last weekend "they boast that we have good water"at the ponca bridge. but a 7 pm on my way home i stopped to see? (wet gravel) and clear water. coming back in the morning at 6 am. it was just above the rocks, a little dirty but, still unable to float. over night it came up about 2 ft but that was around 3 to 4 am. and was gone in minutes.late in the afternoon pruitt came up as that water passed through. so about a 100 renters got on at steel creek, and ended up dragging out at kyles.very un-happy. if you watch the air space reports you see they hold the 20 inch to 28 inch, low but float able an extra week or so when in reality it's too low. everyone wants to float ponca to kyles that's the run burned in memory of the minds of millions of floaters . so ok this might not mean anything to you but 100 canoes @ 85 bucks for an extra 14 days .... oh i see said the blind man.
-
the hardest part of understanding the buffalo is that is so rain dependent . so without any rain, levels drop.and on the other hand, with just a little rain it can sky rocket .and with reports of the AIR SPACE under the ponca bridge(that is controlled by a outfitter that has given false reports just to gain renters) as one. the park service new site as two, that doesn't up date fast enough. the USGS SITE the only one to use.. as three american whitewater as four (another on that doesn't up date)...http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ar/nwis/uv/?site_no=07055646&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 >>this link shows the spike in water levels. look how fast that jumped up! as you click over all the buffalo's links you can see the water move down stream and that makes it a balancing act of good judgement to go or not to go? http://www.ozarkpages.com/cgi-bin/stages.pl?ST=level is another good site mainly for white water. but it updates fast in real time. plus it gives some info on the rivers as for rapids and hazards.... right now i'm on pins and needles with my rescue gear loaded. we have 3 large boy scout groups doing there 50 mile badge float, all are from out of state. and flash flooding reports have me worried .. since we just lost 20 some folks down on the caddo river this weekend . due to a flash flooding.. i may sound like a worry wort when i report on levels and sections of this river . i just want everyone to be safe!
-
nope! when it's gone, it's gone. without any more rain... the kings, war eagle, and the buffalo all feed from the same water shed.
-
i think it should be about 3.85 and you will have to push through some shallows in that section. anything lower and you have to get out 3 times below carver..if you watch for green color as the channel shifts from side to side, and stay away from the brown shallow areas you should be alright!!....
-
yesterday, you can not float above pruitt, there is no water! levels are too low.. we put on 100 canoes along with 4 other outfitters... (pruitt, to hasty/carver) you couldn't see any gravel bars they were covered with canoes and people.. by 2:30 almost all camp sites along the river were taken. by large groups of boyscouts, church groups, and father and son groups. parking at hasty and carver was a joke! we had them all along the hwy for about a mile and a half in both directions if you have ever been to either spot you can just wounder what 400 plus car trucks and trailers look like?... A ZOO. YES A SUNDAY MONDAY TRIP is the way to go for summer trips.the upper district ends with woolum and the middle district starts at bakers ford.we don't over lap areas. http://www.floatthebuffalo.com/ carver to woolum would be the great trip don't use the American white water site the readings don't up date fast enough ..call an outfitter for an update/ river report..two weeks ago the rain had the river rise 7 vertical feet in hour and a half.... i can't stress the importance of what this river can do in just a short time. you set up on a gravel bar all the stars are gone and you see lightning flashes way off in the distance. you toss the last log on the fire and retreat to the tent doze off, and roll over in the middle of the night to a soggy pillow and water in your tent. grab the flashlight and shine it out of the tent door to see your canoe floated off, and that big gravel pile your on is gone. and you have just minutes to grab your gear and scramble into the woods for safety...
