yes WINTER TIME FISHING!....it should be good to start scouting it in the next few weekends....>>> that window is a pretty small time period, back in the day ! we would pick up big fat crappie (the black slab's), whites ,hybrid's, and start catching striper ....... but it's all about the schools of shad!! ...... then it rains and everything goes muddy, and it's all over... oh you pick up some here, and there. but it's not like one MYSTERY fish for every cast!! in water, that for the most part is very shallow . 3 to 4 foot on hot'n tots , or roadrunner jigs, white with a red streak with a white tail and some times even a trailer hook. it's to shallow to work jigging spoons spooks worked well on dead still water early or late into the night. .........they posted about them up in the prairie creek and coose. it's just a matter of time with weather, and water temps. "there come'n up stream! "

not much to tell ... still see a few hard core types ,, haven't seen any top water movement at all. but the river arms have good green color (back to normal) river is still high ,not showing any at all in dropping levels
-
you bet, when it happens the sides of the road are full of car and trucks... i have seen walleye come out of there to.... the tell tail sign is all the old small V and flat bottoms boats pop back out
-
this little cold snap has turn the lake back to some good color! (normal looking) have not had the boat traffic as last week. the low wind has made for some good looking surface activity, that is moving back up into the war eagle arm(or the second bend after point 12) have not seen anything up the white river section but from the Hwy 45 bridge at Goshen water is good looking color. ..... that's my armchair report for this week!!

sure looks like a buffalo? >>> it's listed on EBAY for $1000 -
I think you hit a key factor with the water temp of 63* ...>>>> ...I'm not an authority by any means! so take this for what it is.. the only times i have ever caught" big" fish,( over 25 lbs.) it was either snowing, or dark and gloomy, or an iced ramp. ALMOST every time the bite was 45 minutes to an hour and a half before daylite. in that funny time of twilight ....but there always was a good run of white bass, and or hybrids before hand. that's when we would get hooked up, and I use to throw big chrome zara spooks (in the cove across from point 12, all the way in the back.) sometimes that bite would be as soon as it hit the water ,Bam! or after just a few twitches of big splashes. on the other hand have had a bunch hit right at the boat and almost rip the rod right out of your hand!!......THERE IS nothing like that drag sing n'......the third time!! and the scramble .... yelling get the NET...... NO, GET THE NET...... GET THAT DAM NET,... NOW!!!!

we floated from carver to woolum the wind was bad, but it was at our backs pushing us down stream . GPS tracked us at 3.8 to 5.5 not bad for just floating!!...caught 8 fish nothing huge. all were fat, and on the backside of large rock out cropping s

well, we have worked up to( 4 )guide boats just past that high line wire( if you know were that is). I sat and watched them until dark nobody pull one in!.... water in the main lake still has a tinge of color . the war eagle looks almost normal it never got as orange muddy as the main lake did
-
we would sit in the water in our boat, and dream of a house overlooking the lake ....now i have one ,and haven't been on the lake since! ...go figure
-
lake report...... the war eagle arm isn't as dis-colored as the lake is , saw some surface activity yesterday morning at first light.. nothing this morning ! but the wind had picked up. and as i passed blue spring the calm waters had more surface action . and right now there is a guide boat in the war eagle but the wind is still blowing .... that's whats going on this end

this up coming weekend a group of us, from the ark canoe club are going to float . if you would like to join us feel welcome to do so. as a rule on fri. night we meet at a camp ground, and on sat morn. we set shuttle. not sure what section we will be floating on. waiting later on in the week to see what water levels will be. this is a family friendly float ....http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/mb/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14396

Solo Canoe Vs Conversion

Mohawk is having a blem sale in ft.smith they moved the factory, and have some deals .buffalo canoes just fired back up into production so some seconds could be had..once a year Wenonah has a big sale of blems ... (blems ,damage caused in manufacturing) so some deals are out there ! don't just jump on the first thing that comes along! take your time to find THE ONE! i would say is a key factor..... don't even look at PELICANS OR COLEMAN'S STICK TO A real name brand. THE NEW HULL MATERIAL IS SOFTER THAN THE OLDER STUFF . THIS MAKES OLDER CANOES (BETTER FOR THE BUCKS) WINTER TIME is a great time to make deals because not too many folks are out using them and the are always in the way for some. but ,no canoe does it all! and that's the real trick to find one that does what you are going to do with it. paddling . net has some good reviews on canoes . do some home work, look for paddling clubs in your area and follow links that lead you to the FIND! and, a deal is only a deal if you feel good about it! -

Solo Canoe Vs Conversion
bobber replied to goggleeyes's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
if your a big guy you need to be close to the middle of the canoe, ...you don't want one end way up in the air, and be tail dragging down the river. you want your canoe to set level (or trim)with you, and your gear... the way you will be using it.... i think that the 147 guide is pretty wide in the center? making it very hard to paddle... look at a Mohawk solo 15 ,or something in that line. check weight levels max cap. ratings... kind of rule of thumb is, a long narrow canoe will go smoothly through the water but won't corner well at all. and a short wide canoe takes lot of energy to push the water away from the hull to move through the water at the same speed, but feels very stable, now some place in between is what you need -
i didn't realize we had so many aluminum haters! ..... but they will take all the rocky rivers you have anywhere around here. you could leave it out in the sun and never worry about u v damage, or the hull bubbling from the suns heat... they never need skid plates ...if you guys didn't paddle in such shallow water you wouldn't be making noise with the canoe hitting rocks.... and paddle banging happens no mater what kind of canoe you have! and when you wrap one around a tree they still have a value of about .80 cents a pound as scrap ....... they are a win.. win !! you never have to lock one up... who would steal it? it just goes on and on!!!.......................... i'm laughin' so hard! what do i paddle you ask!............... a BELL

-
the new habitat structures recently installed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Corp??? are they big?..or wide... whats the waves like at flow, (big standing waves??)
-
hey, if your going to pass on the square stern send me some info on it!!!!..... thanks
-
gheenoe, will be about the same as the aluminum square stern. unless it's real long, or real wide. then it could also work well on a small lake. but what type of old town? ..... and is the money difference that much? between the two? .... could you add the extra seat in either one?
-
that's a two day trip! ...water is murky, not much to look at, and only a few gravel bars to camp on (3) fishing is much better from trigger gap down to the hwy 62 bridge.. just food for thought! .......all bets are off http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ar/nwis/uv/?site..._cd=00065,00060
